Property values are the largest sources of revenue for schools. A population in which never has had equal access to fair lending. For example after the Vietnam war when young soldiers with the means were routinely denied loans and just plain refused service by real estate agents and private sellers due to skin color, never has or had the equality that you mention. Historically, there are a lot of reasons why the majority of black people are in worse a socio-economic position today than the majority of white people (i.e. Slavery and lack of civil rights). For this reason, the majority of black people live in poor urban areas. And it is the failing education system in these poor urban areas that lead to high crime rates and a lot of high school dropouts regardless of race. There is no systematic white oppression, just bad education for poorer people.

As a halfbreed (native/white) I heard my dad saying how oppressed he was my whole childhood. At the end of the day he held himself back a lot more than any white man ever did. I think its important to understand that the scars of the past made many a broken soul. However we have to show love to our children and make sure they don't carry those same scars that have been past down through abuse, addiction and self hate. You speak as if black people aren't trying. The president of the U.S. is black (or biracial) and he graduated from Harvard just like you. I've recently graduated from UIUC with my BA. Also, I've served four years in the U.S. military (active duty) and received my honorable discharge (this was before college). I know all about struggle in America. If you look at the unemployment rates for blacks alone the numbers are disheartening. We live under some of the worst conditions worldwide. You speak as if black people aren't trying. The president of the U.S. is black (or biracial) and he graduated from Harvard just like you. I've recently graduated from UIUC with my BA. Also, I've served four years in the U.S. military (active duty) and received my honorable discharge (this was before college). I know all about struggle in America. Yes, I will admit that the black community does have a plethora of internal problems that need to be addressed but discrimination has made it harder.

They came here voluntarily, so they were mentally and physically prepared to be on the bottom and work their way up. If the American Dream is attainable for non-white Asians, it certainly is for blacks. And if you have a problem with the American Dream-- travel through Africa if you haven't yet.
You speak the truth. Don't lose your courage or clarity on this issue. This is what you call REAL black leadership. If enough blacks start thinking this way, positive change will come for blacks--guaranteed. But it takes courage to say what you're saying. The real black heroes today are no longer the Civil Rights protesters. It's those who will squarely express black cultural problems honestly like you did. It's much easier to say that black people ended up below the poverty line of their own accord, can't get an adequate education completely by choice, etc. I do think a lot of behavioral problems can be cut down by having good fathers in the home. It's hard for a kid to do well in school or stay in school at all if they have to work or have a bad family life. A lack of education means they are stuck in this cycle of poor education and poverty. This is for all poor people, not just blacks. However, the majority of black people are stuck in poverty. Bad education and crime cause more of a problem than anything else.

Property values are the largest sources of revenue for schools. A population in which never has had equal access to fair lending. For example after the Vietnam war when young soldiers with the means were routinely denied loans and just plain refused service by real estate agents and private sellers due to skin color, never has or had the equality that you mention. Historically, there are a lot of reasons why the majority of black people are in worse a socio-economic position today than the majority of white people (i.e. Slavery and lack of civil rights). For this reason, the majority of black people live in poor urban areas. Have you not seen the study which shows that people with European sounding names are more likely to receive call backs for an interview than people with black sounding names even with the resumes being completely identical? If people continue to be color blind they will essentially ignore the reality that racism still exists within our institutions.

The white infrastructure, both in the U.S. and throughout the rest of the world, has established a racial tier system. They afford privileges and opportunity based on race, skin tone, and class. This tactic is used as a tool to pit groups against each other and seeing to it that they don't form a bloc and champion their rights. We fought in the French and Indian War, American Revolution (ironically, Crispus Attacks, a black man, was the first to die for the cause of Independence), War of 1812, Spanish American War, etc. We've proven ourselves on the battlefield so what's your point exactly. We fought to spread democracy in other countries when we didn't even enjoy democracy in our own country. I'm not taking anything away from the Asians.

But the problem with blacks today is their cultural attitudes and behavior. That's all. Where were the Asians when we were struggling for Civil Rights (if they were so oppressed like us)? I'll bet you don't see much footage of them protesting. See, that's all Asians need-- just fairness. Even if it's unfair, but surmountable-- they will succeed. But the problem is blacks today have opened the door, but struggle to compete on a level playing field. DuBois vs. Booker T.--blacks should have subscribed earnestly to both, not just DuBois.

They were "voluntary" minorities, wherever they came from was more oppressive. So to them, it's still the land of opportunity--small aperture, but there nonetheless. Also, I've served four years in the U.S. military (active duty) and received my honorable discharge (this was before college). I know all about struggle in America. Yes, I will admit that the black community does have a plethora of internal problems that need to be addressed but discrimination has made it harder.

I find it quite remarkable how you make excuses for white women receiving affirmative action yet you lambaste blacks for receiving the same even though most blacks don't. If you look at the unemployment rates for blacks alone the numbers are disheartening. We live under some of the worst conditions worldwide. In every society, we (blacks) are relegated to the lowest social stratum. However, when we bring our matters to the forefront we are labeled as troublemakers that should just be happy.

Blacks only make up 12% of the population yet we are disproportionately represented within the penal system. However, this never raises concern in society.
