What he does from 0:30 to 0:50 is just amazing. What amazing technique and bow control. It seems as though his bow is bouncing without any visible motion from the arm or wrist. And the left hand pizzicato what power, only masters can project that to the ends of the hall.

WAAOOOO DE LOS 24 CAPRICHOS...ESTE ME GUSTA MAS...AUNKE TODOS SON HERMOSOS..ME HUBIESE GUSTADO ASISTIR A UN CONCIERTE DE PAGANINI...DEFINITIVAMENTE PRECIOSO EL CAPRICHO...
Heifetz is the master violinist. A marvelous performance. The child prodigies referred to are not capable of playing like this, nor are some of the 20-year old wunderkind. There is a difference in playing "the notes" and playing "the musical phrases and 'glisses' " with gusto, feeling, velocity, endurance, and accuracy. Thanks, newsreelarchive.
imagine this, people back then work all their life just to reach this spot. now there are 12, 10, even 7 year olds that can play like this without a problem. if he had seen the child prodigies nowadays, he would be beyond the point of envy -.-
@iplehguitar The only difference between back then and now is that we live in an extremely egoist society with many who are crazed with the race to perfection and fame. A 7 year old playing Paganini virtuoso pieces with official concert debuts sounds splendid, but the life is not as fun as you would think. In the 1800's and 1900's, they probably had fun doing it as kids, without the pressure to perform at concert halls.
@iplehguitar A childhood friend of mine, considered as one of these prodigies, was taken under as a protege at many different orchestras including Moscow at 13. We both started the violin at 4, but while I just did it for fun non competitively, his parents were music teachers that had him practicing 5-6 hours today while he was still in kindergarten. Later in life we spoke, he told me how he felt anger for having much of his childhood taken away from him.
There is something wrong here. Strange corroded sounds and lines. Not a pure Paganini sound. The soul does not sing here along. The man is a great virtuoso. But no purity of sound and soul. Not meant to offend anyone.
Also i favour Leopold Auers adaption, the artificial flageolets fit perfectly, and the the subsequent part is very exciting, always makes my body release a bit of adrenaline =P
this version (compared to other caprice 24 by heifetz on youtube) has the noise digitally removed and that i think has ruined the audio quality. it sound discrete and uncomfortable. the video is great though.
He was said that he practiced 25 times (Think so ) slower than the actual playing speed of the piece, and that's why, he could play extremely better than other violinist, and that's why , he's the best violinist albeit he has leave the world.
yes, although strads have the best reputation. the guarneris are just as good but their tone is much richer and softer while the strads are known for their resonance and bright sounds. this is likely his Guarneri "David" or his Stradivarius the "Dolphin"
