"If you must keep talking.......Please try to make it rhyme"
Love me some Mose! I saw him at this total dive bar in Cincinnati (back in the late '90's) with only a handful of people there. Great show, great musician and song writer. But, how is it that only a handful of people get it?
i saw him at baker's keyboard lounge in detroit in 75 and then 31 years later in halifax, nova scotia. the years had passed but he was as captivating as ever. long live mose allison.
@bloozblasterX Wow! Another Mandrake alumni! SWEET! I use to get into Mandrakes' when I was about 19 (fake ID). I checked out Mose Allison, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutcherson, The Fourth Way (featuring Michael White), Sonny Stitt (who I later performed with in MANDRAKES), Bill Bell, Yuself Lateef etc., Boy, why couldn't I had afforded a camera back then:(
I've been a very big fan of Mose for over 50 years. It's too bad that his song "Self Love" isn't on youtube. It's an ode to self-abuse, and he sang it on stage at a show by Van Morrison that was filmed at some club in NYC. I used to have it on VHS. It's a great song.
I saw Mose perform in an interesting setting -on a barge floating on Seattle's Lake Union. The barge was anchored about 50 feet off The shore of Gasworks Park where an appreciative crowd was gathered. It was a fun, sunny summer day - August, 1982.
@abombinreverse ... I was quoting Keith Moon from the Who. When Pete Townshend would introduce "Young Man Blues" Keith would chirp in with that witty comment.
I am just so happy to see Mose again! I too preferred the slower version. He is so great in person, wish I could have been there. Saw him at Shelly's Manne Hole in Hollywood decades ago. He still makes my heart flutter.
I hate to be the heretic, here, but I really liked the slower, blues swing version of this tune that was on his early albums. This feel is more in the spirit of "Your Molecular Structure."
Of course, Mose is a true original and can do no wrong i my book.
When I saw him in 1975, I was astonished to discover that he was white. Halsted Street, Chicago. Can't remember the bar. I was too young, but with a lot of older ppl so they didn't card me.
I saw a website of the worlds greatest pianists ever....This guy was on top above Chopin, Mozart, and even Beethoven, so I had to check him out. I now know that the person that created that website was and is a fucking idiot. This guy is still high from the 60's. What a waste of time watching this chump.
listening to 1960's albums by the British acts: John Mayall ( Parchman Farm ), TheYardbirds ( I'm Not Talking ) etc. Then I heard him doing his own songs and I've been a fan since. Love this song too. A lot of young acts today could learn a lot from this man.
Amazing artist! My cousin sent my dad a tape of Mose and...I was just speechless at this mans ability to play...as well as sing like a young man, while he is an older man! Excellent piece!
I've seen this cat four times live since 1988. Would have given anything to see this show, as Tom Waits was on the same venue! Seeing Waits in a month in St. Louis. Similar but different! Mose comes to Santa Cruz every year. In 1988, he played at the Monterey Sheraton the Friday night after Thanksgiving for $5. I talked to him at the bar during intermission. Quite the southern gentleman! The next year, same date, $10! Saw him last in 2001, Santa Cruz, Kuwumwbwa Jazz Center, and it was $20.
Excellent! Been looking for something from this gig for a long time. I think that is Jerry Granelli on drums. Not sure who the bassist is. I remember seeing this on PBS and I've been hooked ever since. Thanks so much!
Goed werk, deze video. Jammer dat alle mooie jazzvideo's van Itsartolie onlangs door Google zijn verwijderd. Gelukkig hebben we nu nog steeds Mose's Your Mind Is On Vacation.
