i have 4 guppies and i'm gonna breed'em but ppl say that i need to seperate the males and females so they can grow properly, or something like that, i just wanna know if u need to do that whit mollies/platys/ and the other ones that looks like platys but has a long sword on the tail, becouse i cant have 4 tanks.. in my room , mating tank,fry tank,male tank,female tank.
you said at the end FREE to a good home?? i could only find two BLUE platties where i live.. if your giving away free fish i would take some blues and maybe a couple Twin barred.. i need ladies tho, both my blues are males and my other two twin barred at males also.. i live in iowa, how would u get them here.. i can give email if you'd like but would rather do so in private!! hope to hear from you soon

wow nice big platies but to many yellow ones but still nice, i got 2 females n 1 male n ive found only 5 baby platy that was just borned an hour ago i think the others were eaten man thats sad
Very nice aquarium. I just recently bought several platies, red wag and sunburst. Did you isolate the pregnant ones to keep the fry or did you let it drop in the tank? I have a 55 gallon tank and I want a swarm of swimming platies like what you have.
Oh God. That's what my aquarium is going to look like in a month or two. I have a 29 gallon aquarium with two adult female fish and about 50 fry ranging two weeks old to three months old. ._.

Do your research! Platy's don't lay eggs, they have live fry. They can have anywhere from 10 to 40 fry every 4 or 5 weeks. If your female has a bump in her tummy she is almost surely pregnant. I would expect her to have her fry in less than 4 weeks as this is the typical gestation period. If you want to keep the fry you will have to remove them from the larger fish or many if not all of them will be eaten.

when ever i have a pregnant platy I go to school and come back and shes flat and theres like one left on the bottom hideing in the gravel

wow... how many eggs does a platy lay? i have 2 female and 1 male... 1 of the females is getting a little bump in her tummy :|
