Hamlet is an absolutely beautiful pig. i always wanted one and after watching a lot of the videos you have of him convinced me even more...now i just have to convince my parents...btw he is adorable in this video.
Piglet excited about being fed: Cute. Person teasing piglet with food: not so cute. 2 years from now, Hamlet biting the owner with more ferocity for being teased about food: priceless.
@MrAnymeansnecessary Haha! He's almost two now. He hasn't bitten me for a long time. :) He's a smart piggy! I don't normally tease him with food. This was a one time deal because he just got so wound up about his bottle when he was a baby. Food is serious business to a pig. :)
@Animefan300 I've heard that too. That is one of the reasons I am posting videos of Hamlet throughout his life so people can see one person's experience owning a mini pig. :)
@Animefan300 It's true. Mini pigs are a myth. There is a pig rescue near my house that is full of little pigs that grew bigger than their owners expected.
funny how many of these comments to your video are putting you down about "torturing" the pig n shit...most of them eat bacon I'm sure...lol
I've seen baby animals follow their mom around to get a drink and it would seem like the mom was like UHG! NO! NO MILK FOR YOU! YOU TOUGHING EM UP SO HE AIN'T NO PUSS PIG! ha ha!
i think its so cute how you have had him since he was a baby, and to the people who are saying that shes torturing the little piggy be quiet because at least shes not treating him like factory farms do! Watch farm to fridge it will change your life.
This is so sad! Why do we humans love to steal the babies of other species so damn much!? If this piglet is still drinking from a bottle why isn't he still with his mother? Look at what has happened to the other species we have "domesticated". It has not worked in their favor! Let's not add any more please!
Don't adopt pigs from breeders. It's completely unscrupulous and you are supporting yet another cruel practice which treats animals as products that can be discarded when no longer convenient, instead of treating them like the living creatures they are.
I find it incredibly narrow minded to say breeders are unscrupulous as a whole. There are definitely horrible back yard breeders, mill breeders, and people who are stupid, without integrity and in it for the money. But for every animal, pig, horse, dog, cat, fish or so on there are also very well educated breeders who understand and devote their entire lives into the research, understanding and raising of a breed of creature.
@gretschjazzer no! i think if you get it from the right place it's tottaly fine. he is just a pet. it's the same as a dog as long as you give it love and care. i don't see people yelling at you for having a dog. sorry if i sounded mean but i think it's fine to have a pig pet as long as you have love and care.
There's no such thing as mini or micro pigs. Hamlet will very likely grow up to be about 150 lbs and at that point little miss Kansas State will ditch him I'm sure. Hamlet will end up as another in a very long line of potbelly pigs that are abandoned once they are no longer "cute" to their owner.
@gretschjazzer Wow. You sure know a lot about me. When you get done watching all 60+ videos of Hamlet then tell me how likely it is that I will 'ditch' him. I am not a breeder. I have no reason to lie. I am simply documenting the life of my mini pig so that others can see one person's actual experiences with raising a mini pig. Good along with the bad. Unless Hamlet has a 100 pound growth spurt in the next year, I highly doubt he will achieve 150 pounds. P.S. K-State = Awesome!
@PiggyGirl2010 You dont own a mini pig. There is no such thing. It will get big. Trust me. We have a pig rescue near by that is full of little pigs that grew up bigger than their owners thought they would.
@SuperMarioZombies She does have a mini pig. It's been fifty pounds for the past several months. Regular pot bellies are usually 120+ pounds. Fifty pounds is VERY small compared to most pig species.
How big will this critter get? My experience with pigs is limited to big ol' China whites. They are adorable at birth, but once the get past that 50 pound feeder stage ...
@Sforeczka Hi there! You can see some of my more recent videos to see how big he is now. He is about 53 pounds at 20 months. I don't anticipate him getting too much bigger.
I agreed. However, biting is not necessarily. I hope that she learn to respect and not to tease this poor baby pig. Anyway, so cute and I dont liked her tease this baby pig. He is hungry.
@pamiela Ha! I don't normally tease. He was a little dramatic when he was a baby. I guess he's still dramatic now... If you watch closely you will see him bite my arm. It is when I saw "Oww". He had his revenge... Oh, and he gets his revenge in other ways too. He opened our file cabinet yesterday and destroyed 2005, 2006 and 2007 tax returns. Hope we don't get audited...
@pamiela "torture"? oh my god get some perspective you ignorant "animal activist" you are "torturing" animals soooo much more abusing words like that for stuff like this, go to a meat factory and check it out. THATS torture now get the fuck off!
Oh my gosh - SO CUTE - I've been looking into getting a small pig FOREVER- I just saw about the cost - I'm a vegan and the main reason I want one is because I LOVE THEM and they are SO CUTE but also - to show people that they are actually 10x smarter than dogs! Actually cleaner too! (Does Hamlet use a litter box? Some do - I was looking into potbelly's as well) I do have a cat though .... do you have any other animals? My cat is EXTREMELY friendly - about a year old... Thanks! M
@831magdalena Hi there! You are right, pigs are smarter and cleaner than dogs. Hamlet is litter box trained and has had very few problems now that he is older. I do not have any other animals. Hamlet seems to get along great with other animals though. I'm sure a cat wouldn't be a problem. The only word of caution is that pigs do tend to eat everything and if they eat clumping cat litter they will die. You will need to keep the cat litter away from the piggy or just use paper litter.
pigs are my favorite animal my friends dont say bacon around me because i will cry i love pigs so much and i want one wish you and hamlet the best in your wold piggy i love you your soooooooooooooooooooo cute
@Redangel10167 I got my baby Porkchop from a shelter costing me 25 dollars. You dont necessarily have to get a pig from a breeder it can come from a good shelter.
If I remember correctly dogs and cats are too young at 5 wks to be separated from their mom's. I'm surprised pigs are ready to be weaned and removed from their mothers that early.
@johalieb1 Pigs are different. They're even born with teeth! I guess the breeder separates them as soon as possible and bottle feeds them to help them get used to being handled by humans. They cannot leave the breeder until they are able to eat solid food. Some pigs are not ready until they are eight weeks but others are ready earlier. The earlier you get them, the easier it is for them to bond with you. This is what I have read and been told anyway. :)
They shouldn't be removed from the sows that early. it can cause all sorts of problems in behaviour later on and of course its the pigs that suffer not the greedy breeders ''/
@nuttyredx I am not an expert in how to breed these animals. I can say that Hamlet does not have any behavioral problems. He arrived as a well-socialized baby pig that I could immediately pick up and hold. I guess at this age they are more accepting of their new environment and will form a tighter bond with your family.
@PiggyGirl2010@PiggyGirl2010 You say the breeder wont let the pigs leave till they are eating solids? then why is hamlet still being bottle fed in this video?
Pigs naturally wean their piglets from 8 weeks onwards Hamlet should have still been with his mom, but this is a breeder issue 'cute' sells and they know it.
If Hamlet is well adjusted and happy then that is down to you and his environment. Its nice to see you still have him a year on. Many are not so lucky.
@johalieb1 One reason dogs need to be with their mothers longer is because they're pack animals, and mom teaches them to be respectful of those who are a higher ranking than them. I don't think pigs need that.
:) Thx I just looked at the website and they r sooo cute but I found 2 that just looked sooo cute lol and they r both in the nursery :) but I still have more questions haha um lol r they easy to take care of or r they little trouble makers? :)
@LilredLilblond I would definitely classify pigs as more challenging to take care of than a dog. They are sooo smart. If they do something just once, they can do it over and over (like escape or open a pantry door). They also don't care if you yell at them. You will never see that 'look of remorse' from a pig that you see with dogs. On the other hand, they are so loving and sweet. Can learn tricks. Can use a litter box. Smell a lot less than dogs. Overall more challenging but totally worth it.
@DarkTemptation8 Hamlet is now about 50 pounds at 18 months. Pretty close to how big the breeder said he would be. See my other more recent videos for reference. :)
@piggygirl2010 Thx and how old was him when u got him because I found a website that ships them but you get them when they r about ten weeks so I was wondering if they r big when they r that old or r they about the size he is in this video :)
@LilredLilblond Hi there! I got Hamlet when he was 5 weeks old. I have heard that you don't really want to go any longer than 10 weeks or the piggy may not bond properly with its new family. At 5 weeks, he was 3.5 pounds. I can't remember how big he was at 10 weeks. Maybe around 5ish pounds? Try Texas Tiny Pigs. Great breeder. I highly recommend them! That's where my Hamlet came from. :) Good luck!
im a 12 year old kid that wants one ive written a 4 page report on them but my mom says they get too big so how big is your right now and how old and how much did it cost plz email me at paytoncat@hotmail.com
@LilredLilblond I bought Hamlet from Texas Tiny Pigs. They are great! I highly recommend them! When we got him, he was $800 with free shipping. I think they have increased prices slightly since then. They also neutered him for us.
@arasay44 Hamlet is pretty much full grown now. His weight hovers around 50 pounds. See my more recent videos to see him as an adult. He is about 16 months old now.
I can't remember the name of it, but it is a multi species milk replacement powder that I bought at Tractor Supply Co. Hamlet loved it. I would use it in his bottle and also mix it into his oatmeal.
@beckyl711 I can't remember the name of it, but it is a multi species milk replacement powder that I bought at Tractor Supply Co. Hamlet loved it. I would use it in his bottle and also mix it into his oatmeal.
@PiggyGirl2010 Thanks so much for responding! Also I was wondering how hold was Hamlet in this video? How old/big is he now? And was getting a pig a good experience for you? Sorry for all the questions! I'm picking up my piggy on Saturday :o)
@beckyl711 Congratulations on getting your little piggy! It is kind of nerve racking when they are so small. They are more durable than they look though. He fell down the stairs twice when he was learning to do stairs and it never seemed to bother him. Regarding your questions: I think he was about 6 weeks old or so. Probably about 4 ish pounds. He is just over 1 year old now and weighs about 45-50 lbs. Pretty much exactly what the breeder thought he would weigh.
@beckyl711 It has been good overall. There are some challenges compared to a dog. Pigs really don't care if you yell at them. :) I use a squirt bottle to discipline him. I do swat him on the snout occasionally but only for biting. He doesn't bite at all anymore. He is super sweet and is a momma's boy. He is such a cuddler! Sorry for not responding to your first question earlier. I am kind of new to YouTube and didn't realize I should hit 'reply' instead of just posting an answer. :)
@PiggyGirl2010 Thank you! We such picked Percy up this morning! I was wondering, how long did it take for Hamlet to get use to you? And also how long did it take until he started eating? My piggy will pick up a pellet or two occasionally but he won't eat them out of his dish.
@beckyl711 It took Hamlet about 24 hrs before he felt comfortable with us. After that he would get really upset if he couldn't see us. For a while, let him come to you. Hamlet wouldn't eat his pelleted food for about a week after we got him. We gave him bottles and instant oatmeal made with milk replacer for about two weeks. The next week will be kind of tough. Please let me know if you have any questions. I will answer them as soon as I can. Congrats on your little Percy! :)
@PiggyGirl2010 Thanks so much for all of your help! More questions haha! Okay well is it normal for the pig to sleep alot? Percy just wants to sleep all day practically. Also, he is VERY itchy! He itches himself on everything! Is that normal too?
@beckyl711 Yes, they do sleep quite a bit as babies and even as adults. Hamlet always wanted to be held while he slept in the beginning. He was pretty nervous when I wasn't in sight for the first week or so. He should have periods where he is active followed by napping. Very normal. Piggies can have dry skin which is itchy. It could also be mange. See your vet for recommendations. After every batch I rub Hamlet down with Udder Cream (a lotion) to prevent dry, itchy skin.
WHERE DO YOU BUY HAMLET?? HOW MUCH?? DID YOU BRING HIM FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY ?"?please answer mee !!:)

@johalieb1
They shouldn't be removed from the sows that early. it can cause all sorts of problems in behaviour later on and of course its the pigs that suffer not the greedy breeders ''/
nuttyredx 2 months ago
@nuttyredx I am not an expert in how to breed these animals. I can say that Hamlet does not have any behavioral problems. He arrived as a well-socialized baby pig that I could immediately pick up and hold. I guess at this age they are more accepting of their new environment and will form a tighter bond with your family.
PiggyGirl2010 2 months ago
@PiggyGirl2010 @PiggyGirl2010 You say the breeder wont let the pigs leave till they are eating solids? then why is hamlet still being bottle fed in this video?

LilredLilblond 5 months ago
@LilredLilblond I would definitely classify pigs as more challenging to take care of than a dog. They are sooo smart. If they do something just once, they can do it over and over (like escape or open a pantry door). They also don't care if you yell at them. You will never see that 'look of remorse' from a pig that you see with dogs. On the other hand, they are so loving and sweet. Can learn tricks. Can use a litter box. Smell a lot less than dogs. Overall more challenging but totally worth it.

@PiggyGirl2010 how big do they get
DarkTemptation8 4 months ago
@DarkTemptation8 Hamlet is now about 50 pounds at 18 months. Pretty close to how big the breeder said he would be. See my other more recent videos for reference. :)

@piggygirl2010 Thx and how old was him when u got him because I found a website that ships them but you get them when they r about ten weeks so I was wondering if they r big when they r that old or r they about the size he is in this video :)
LilredLilblond 5 months ago
@LilredLilblond Hi there! I got Hamlet when he was 5 weeks old. I have heard that you don't really want to go any longer than 10 weeks or the piggy may not bond properly with its new family. At 5 weeks, he was 3.5 pounds. I can't remember how big he was at 10 weeks. Maybe around 5ish pounds? Try Texas Tiny Pigs. Great breeder. I highly recommend them! That's where my Hamlet came from. :) Good luck!

@LilredLilblond I bought Hamlet from Texas Tiny Pigs. They are great! I highly recommend them! When we got him, he was $800 with free shipping. I think they have increased prices slightly since then. They also neutered him for us.

@dankcoffee420 Texas Tiny Pigs. Very good, reputable breeder. I highly recommend them.

I can't remember the name of it, but it is a multi species milk replacement powder that I bought at Tractor Supply Co. Hamlet loved it. I would use it in his bottle and also mix it into his oatmeal.

@PiggyGirl2010 Thanks so much for responding! Also I was wondering how hold was Hamlet in this video? How old/big is he now? And was getting a pig a good experience for you? Sorry for all the questions! I'm picking up my piggy on Saturday :o)
beckyl711 6 months ago
@beckyl711 Congratulations on getting your little piggy! It is kind of nerve racking when they are so small. They are more durable than they look though. He fell down the stairs twice when he was learning to do stairs and it never seemed to bother him. Regarding your questions: I think he was about 6 weeks old or so. Probably about 4 ish pounds. He is just over 1 year old now and weighs about 45-50 lbs. Pretty much exactly what the breeder thought he would weigh.
PiggyGirl2010 6 months ago
@beckyl711 It has been good overall. There are some challenges compared to a dog. Pigs really don't care if you yell at them. :) I use a squirt bottle to discipline him. I do swat him on the snout occasionally but only for biting. He doesn't bite at all anymore. He is super sweet and is a momma's boy. He is such a cuddler! Sorry for not responding to your first question earlier. I am kind of new to YouTube and didn't realize I should hit 'reply' instead of just posting an answer. :)
PiggyGirl2010 6 months ago
@PiggyGirl2010 Thank you! We such picked Percy up this morning! I was wondering, how long did it take for Hamlet to get use to you? And also how long did it take until he started eating? My piggy will pick up a pellet or two occasionally but he won't eat them out of his dish.
beckyl711 6 months ago
@beckyl711 It took Hamlet about 24 hrs before he felt comfortable with us. After that he would get really upset if he couldn't see us. For a while, let him come to you. Hamlet wouldn't eat his pelleted food for about a week after we got him. We gave him bottles and instant oatmeal made with milk replacer for about two weeks. The next week will be kind of tough. Please let me know if you have any questions. I will answer them as soon as I can. Congrats on your little Percy! :)
PiggyGirl2010 6 months ago
@PiggyGirl2010 Thanks so much for all of your help! More questions haha! Okay well is it normal for the pig to sleep alot? Percy just wants to sleep all day practically. Also, he is VERY itchy! He itches himself on everything! Is that normal too?
Thanks so much!
beckyl711 6 months ago
@beckyl711 Yes, they do sleep quite a bit as babies and even as adults. Hamlet always wanted to be held while he slept in the beginning. He was pretty nervous when I wasn't in sight for the first week or so. He should have periods where he is active followed by napping. Very normal. Piggies can have dry skin which is itchy. It could also be mange. See your vet for recommendations. After every batch I rub Hamlet down with Udder Cream (a lotion) to prevent dry, itchy skin.
