Nobody can use parts of this video without your permission? who do you think you are, time magazine? Who the hell wants to feature an old article about a freak chicken? ...let alone by playing a video that quite frankly was about the most boring thing I ever saw? What was with all the page turning in the beginning? Did you get bored and just figured you make a headless chicken video half way through catching up on your reading? lol... give me a break.
It´s amazing, but so sad too. The rooster was dragged around in shows in this condition and many farmers tried to get the same result after this farmer was making money with Mike. Hundreds of chicken had to suffer a terrible death through this attempts. Later Mike suffocated on tour in a Motel room, cause his owner forgot to clean his open throat. Humans suck.
Lot's of people have dead chickens. Keep it alive and you'd make a lot of money exhibiting it, plus you'd could have a lot of cool youtube videos. Plan for the future. And when you're old and retired in your mansion they'll ask how you made your fortune and you can proudly say, "Headless chicken, man."
I'm going to correct what I wrote. After considerable thought I've come to the conclusion that anyone who retires off the proceeds of a headless chicken is more likely to answer the above question with, "Headless chicken, dude."
Hi Yvette! I remember you telling me the story about Mike the Headless Chicken. It's an amazing story. I'm glad you put it up. It's very interesting in a sick sort of way!
I've been curious about the mysterious headless chicken since my childhood and am glad I've been able to put the facts into one video so others will know about Mike. I've always found him quite inspiring.
Great video Yvette!A friend of mine,a local singer songwriter wrote a song about Mike.I too had trouble believing this was a true story when he first told me about it.
Goodness, I had ABSOLUTELY no clue this story was real. I'd heard about it before but wow. I'm only 19, lol. Never believed my uncle Richard...ofcourse, if you knew him, you wouldn't either but this is inspirational. I think we can all relate to Mike atleast some, si? =] Thank you for this video
What is it about uncles and tall tales? Of course, if you had known my Uncle Larkin. Took me to pit bull fights, chicken fights, and Appalachian snake worshipping ceremonies. All, probably, completely inappropriate for a 10-year-old little girl.
You're welcome. I've always found Mike to be a very inspirational story. I've been meaning to post it for a long time, but only just got around to getting a copy of the 1945 Life Magazine and didn't want to post it without it.
Thanks for the headless chicken story. I was also fascinated by the other stories and pictures in your mag. Hirohito and MacArthur, side by side, posing thogether just months after the end of the war, wow. Thanks for flipping the pages slow enough to get the flavor of the times.
Remember Hirohito had been thought of as a living God and had to give up his divinity as part of the Japanese surrender. McCarthy at this time was pretty much king of Japan. He was probably the second most popular person in the world (Eisenhower was #1). His word was law. A lot of it went to his head and eventually Truman fired him and he gave his "Old soldiers never die, they just fade away" speech before congress.
I thought his old soldiers speech was given to a graduating class at West Point. Fading away doesn't sound like too bad of a finish for the alternatives for a soldier are pretty harsh. In the long run we all fade away as the memories of who and what we were are lost to the generations.
Did you notice the article about the Duke of Windsor? It was his first visit back to England since his abdication in 1936. His wife, the Duchess of Windsor, was not allowed in with him. She would not be allowed in until she was permitted to attend his funeral in 1972. Edward had been Queen Elizabeth's favorite uncle, and let the Duchess in and made a remark that maybe the Duke and Duchess had been treated a little unfairly. When he abdicated he thought he would still have a role.
I didn't notice it because I was fascinated by something (ads included) on every page and was running late when I watched your vid the first time. (no pausing) A divorcee, omg, a little unfairly, sheesh?! The love story of the century, gave up the throne of England for love, is it even possible to get any more romantic than that?
Actually he had no face, the farmer missed most of his head.

That was intentional. I wanted people to see what Life Magazine articles an advertising looked like back in the 1940s.

Although I knew of this story for some time, this was much more informative. It's a sad, funny, inspirational tale that is worth telling over again.
Thanks for posting this!
