Thanks for the information on JM not recording "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen". Its obvious absence from the CDs I have of JM made me suspect that was the case.
Let me add my thanks for this fine old rendition of a favorite of mine. I'm a little curious, given the many videos of John McCormack available on YT, why no one has brought forward "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" Did JM never record it?
I have looked very carefully through what is supposed to a comprehensive discography of the great man and there is no record of him ever recording "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen".
Well done fuzzbear on keeping the great recordings alive.Hopefully a whole new generation can be introduced to McCormack and to realise how great he was.I am sure he would be very pleased at your sterling work and efforts.
UBIQUITOUS12, (Sorry for the delay in responding.) Thank you as well-such praise will give me a swell head! Seriously-thank you-it's very nice to have my efforts appreciated.
Solsticecelt, (Sorry for the delay in responding.) Goodness-such high praise-Thank so very much-even if I doubt I truly deserve it. I certainly hope he would be pleased with my efforts.
WOW where? how? when did you find this? thanks for the posting with the lyrics too. Ive been too show to add this to my act but this shows me Its ready as is.acapella.I cant imagine how great it must be for music students today with all this rich stuff on the web.
if an angel sang round my bed my wife would shoot her and me both. shes an irish redhead. if it was a guy angel she would kick me out of bed if he brought some whisky. He can have her for the whisky
Edisonc250, Britishclub apologized for comments made in the heat of the moment. Let's all move on and enjoy the music. Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas!
This is definately my last comment on this thing.
It is well known method of all authoritarian-minded people to tell those of differing opinions that they are mad - or burn them, imprison them, or shot them!
If people are eager to die for mad things like nation, then I say - let them!!!!!!
All those dead heroes, a glorious revolution and a barbaric civil war with lots and lots of martyr´s graves. Then decades of dictatorhsip by a lot mediocraties in the Catholic church.
Nationalism stinks!
A lot of stupid, romantic waffle and piles of dead bodies.
Britishclub,This is a song dedicated to those who fell in a fight for their countries freedom, one of which has been occupied by the British Empire for 900 years now.If your really think that wanting their ancestors homeland free, and not ruled by the government which has killed over a million people in Ireland alone, stinks you might want to see a therapist.
To civilized viewers, you can also see another rebel song John McCormack recorded, "The wearing of the Green" on youtube. Also by Fuzz! :D
Crazymonkey60, Thank you for your supportive comments. The purpose of my posts is simply to share some wonderful music from days gone by. One can't please everyone and I don't expect to. I do apologize to anyone who is offended by any of my clips.
Follow FuzzBear's link! McCormick applied for U.S. citizenship in 1915 and became a U.S. citizen in 1919. It made him unpopular for a time in Britain and the Empire. He wrote about the chilly treatment in Australia: "Nor will I forget their cruelty when silly propaganda charged me with all kinds of offences. Even my undying love for the land of my birth, and my unchanging belief in her inalienable right to be free, were charged against me as crimes."
Ciroalb3, Ahh, this comment didn't show up when you first posted. Yes I have that information in the descriptive over to the right. Just click more, I have the lyrics and a link to the Wikipedia article about the song and a link to the wonderful John McCormack Society. Thanks!
Thanking for your splendid video description and related links. And thanks for providing this selection. I'm sure I have the recording, but I'm just as sure I never got around to playing it! Mack was a fine singer...
Gmmix, Thank you. You're the one who inspired me to do a bit of research and add a bit more to my descriptives. (And thanks to Kspm01 for providing me with some of said information.) Very glad you enjoyed it. YF, J.
Thx for posting the lyrics and links. Having read about McCormack, such a pity he had to die of emphysema...so many from that generation were smokers. Regardless, a very interesting history of the Irish tenor!!
What an amazing singer!

Which side was McCormack on anyway?
The British or the Irish rebels?
