  • What an amazing singer!

  • Thanks for the information on JM not recording "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen". Its obvious absence from the CDs I have of JM made me suspect that was the case.

  • Brilliant

  • Plumpsker, Thank you.

    Regards, J.

  • Let me add my thanks for this fine old rendition of a favorite of mine. I'm a little curious, given the many videos of John McCormack available on YT, why no one has brought forward "I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen" Did JM never record it?

  • Hotonite, I'm sure he recorded it. I'll have to look for a copy and put it on the list for you. Thank you for your kind words.

    Regards, J.

  • I have looked very carefully through what is supposed to a comprehensive discography of the great man and there is no record of him ever recording "I'll Take You Home Again Kathleen".

  • Well done fuzzbear on keeping the great recordings alive.Hopefully a whole new generation can be introduced to McCormack and to realise how great he was.I am sure he would be very pleased at your sterling work and efforts.

  • Bluecell99, Thank you so much for your kind words. I certainly hope he would! I'm so pleased you enjoy my efforts.

  • Edisonc250, Britishclub apologized for comments made in the heat of the moment. Let's all move on and enjoy the music. Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas!

  • Thanks the last comment. I have erased my comments as the were ill thought out and gave offence.

    Apologies!

  • This is definately my last comment on this thing.

It is well known method of all authoritarian-minded people to tell those of differing opinions that they are mad - or burn them, imprison them, or shot them!

If people are eager to die for mad things like nation, then I say - let them!!!!!!

Goodbye and I love you all!

    D

  • Lovely tune, idiotic words!

All those dead heroes, a glorious revolution and a barbaric civil war with lots and lots of martyr´s graves. Then decades of dictatorhsip by a lot mediocraties in the Catholic church.

    Nationalism stinks!

A lot of stupid, romantic waffle and piles of dead bodies.

Which side was McCormack on anyway?

The British or the Irish rebels?

  • Britishclub,This is a song dedicated to those who fell in a fight for their countries freedom, one of which has been occupied by the British Empire for 900 years now.If your really think that wanting their ancestors homeland free, and not ruled by the government which has killed over a million people in Ireland alone, stinks you might want to see a therapist.

To civilized viewers, you can also see another rebel song John McCormack recorded, "The wearing of the Green" on youtube. Also by Fuzz! :D

  • Crazymonkey60, Thank you for your supportive comments. The purpose of my posts is simply to share some wonderful music from days gone by. One can't please everyone and I don't expect to. I do apologize to anyone who is offended by any of my clips.

    Regards, J.

  • Follow FuzzBear's link! McCormick applied for U.S. citizenship in 1915 and became a U.S. citizen in 1919. It made him unpopular for a time in Britain and the Empire. He wrote about the chilly treatment in Australia: "Nor will I forget their cruelty when silly propaganda charged me with all kinds of offences. Even my undying love for the land of my birth, and my unchanging belief in her inalienable right to be free, were charged against me as crimes."

  • I had no idea John McCormack would have sung political songs! Wonderful!

  • Cottagecheese54, Yes McCormack he proudly recorded this and others.

    Regards, J.

  • I gave it 5 Stars!!! I love the St Patrick Statue also Nice touch!!! Superb Video and unique!

  • Paulostroff99, I certainly agree. McCormack will always rank as one of the greatest tenors who ever lived! Regards, J.

  • the date for this is 1906 Odeon session A

  • Ciroalb3, Ahh, this comment didn't show up when you first posted. Yes I have that information in the descriptive over to the right. Just click more, I have the lyrics and a link to the Wikipedia article about the song and a link to the wonderful John McCormack Society. Thanks!

    Regards, J.

  • Does anyone have his rare recording of Se il nome from Barber of Seville?

  • Ciroalb3, Sorry I do not, maybe another viewer does. I do hope you enjoyed this recording. Regards, J.

  • Thanking for your splendid video description and related links. And thanks for providing this selection. I'm sure I have the recording, but I'm just as sure I never got around to playing it! Mack was a fine singer...

  • Gmmix, Thank you. You're the one who inspired me to do a bit of research and add a bit more to my descriptives. (And thanks to Kspm01 for providing me with some of said information.) Very glad you enjoyed it. YF, J.

  • Thx for posting the lyrics and links. Having read about McCormack, such a pity he had to die of emphysema...so many from that generation were smokers. Regardless, a very interesting history of the Irish tenor!!

  • Thanks for your answer, which, once more, got lost somewhere in YT's catacombs...

  • Kspm01, Yes I just noticed it's MIA-hopefully it'll be back-maybe it just stepped out for a smoke. ;-) YF, J.

  • Amazing sound for a 1906 recording - and then McCormack doing the job... couldn't go wrong!
