I knew Ryoga would win, because this is just another filler episode, which means at the end nothing can have changed. If Ranma won, he'd definately make it to China, but if Ryoga won, of course he'd get lost. (There was one vaguely like this in the manga, but Ukyo and Ryoga went together. Instead of Jusenkyo, I think they ended up in Okinawa? I forget.)

i'm pretty sure that there was an episode in the anime with the same story line. like um episode 95 or something close to that. book 14 in the manga.

I just checked, looks like it starts first chapter of book 16 and ends the seventh chapter. The pair landed in Atami on the seaside.
