this was on "america's got talent" and i viewed it on TV many times and what i really dont understand is that the hand never moved between the switch, i played it through many times and kept my eye on the hand, and it didnt move.

@zopprano You're assuming Michael Grasso came up with this illusion. He didn't. It was developed by a magician called John Taylor and the box has been sold as a branded product since 2000. David Penn is one of the licenced owners on the official website for the box, as is Michael Grasso, so they both have equal right to perform the illusion.

As I mentioned before, both David and Michael have bought an official, branded box and the performance rights for the illusion, so they're both equally entitled to perform it. @mattsmurfy Actually to be honest I've kind of started doubting myself. I've watched the video a few times and it kind of seems like the costume idea is a bit of a stretch. The only other explanation is that David kicked open the back of the box, slipped out just in time to replace Karen, and Karen had to jump right back in within about five seconds. But to do this requires such timing that it seems illogical and wouldn't really be an illusion.

I believe this should have been their semi final performance. Great. It's always going to be difficult being a magic act and trying to make it better each time you perform but making the first performance good enough to get through.

The performance is good and they seem really likeable, but creativity is what's lacking for me. The way they say "it's a trick made famous by Houdini but we've modernised it" suggests they came up with the illusion themselves, but they didn't. The box is branded and the illusion is always performed in exactly the same way. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the performance, but I just feel as though there's nothing unique about this :(

At 2:07 the assistants hand is revealed through the hole (the assistant is in the stand which the box is on) see how the wrist is pointing up from the stand

2:21 The assistant grabs the pole which the fabric is attached to and david starts to get out the box because you see the box moving

2:24 - 2:25 you can see David's hand sweep up the fabric towards the left, grabbing on to the top of it and lifting it higher which leaves karen to get in the box?

2:26 See his feet in the feflection on the floor?

2:28-2:30 Box shakes which must mean she is getting in the box from a small gap under the box towards the left which has given her about 5 seconds to get in the box from when david got hold of the fabric

notice how they both sit the same in the box...there foot is resting on a trap door. if you watch the hd video when the man gets into the box you can see the trap door on the left open a tiny bit just before he puts his foot on it. Then when the girl lifts the cloth above her head just before she dissappears, you can see the cloth ruffle as she runs past it and jumps into the box, thats why her hairs all messed up. simples.

Tthere is only one answer.

They both have a twin. Karen's twin is already hiding in the box, and the mans is hiding behind the tower thing. Which will have a mirror, so it looks normal, and he is hiding behind the mirror. The womens twin is already hiding behind a black cloth in the box. xoxo
