It's kind of annoying how they split up the videos into very small ones that cover only one specific subject. It makes it harder to find all of them, plus takes up a lot of space on the channel, if you've seen the number of videos they have then you'll know what I'm talking about. Plus you can't learn all the basics of fencing by watching one of the videos. They should have them separate, and then one big video combining them.
@ToaRanen7 actually you really need to learn each part well and focus on them individually, sometimes there's just one part you don't get and if it's the last, you might waste more time buffering the whole thing! that would suck if your connection got crappy all of the sudden,
Nothing this guys says or does is actually wrong, though there are small things I would object to, but it is poorly explained in a naff setting and he certainly is not an expert. And yes, I do fence, I coach and I am a teacher. I do know what I'm talking about. If you want to learn, get this - and no, I didn't make it.

It's called a weapon, not a sword. Fencers call it a weapon. It's just terminology. I understand that you are give very very very basic and limited instruction, but really...
@katya58 i don't fence professionally, but some friends and I fence and we did a gear less match and i took a rapier to the inside of my right eye... let me say, it hurt like a bitch... my apologies for the language... eye patch for 3 weeks... we haven't done that since... Fencing is dangerous, always use protection when using any weapon
As far as the back arm goes, look at Alexi Smirnov Lesson on you tube...he still uses his back arm in lunging, its just not held as high. Using the back arm in the lunge will give you more speed and help with your aim.
Third: To Mike7718 : feet is not aligned at a perfect 90 degree angle because it shouldn't always be depending on the position/Stance/...
Fourth:To Aeltherfif The belly runs forward while the shoulders follow with a dangerous delay due to inertia, and if we follow your rules, then the body would be so stiff ( Wooden Stiff) you wouldn't be able to swiftly dodge(parry) or switch stances.
Incidentally, the arm was kept up because the entire torso is target area in foil. Thus, keeping the arm down obstructed valid target with a part of the body that is not target area so foil fencers must keep it up.
But, I do not any fencing instructors who tell people to keep their arms up like that. I don't even see Olympic level fencers keep their arms up like that.
Historically, fencers didn't keep their back arms up. They preferred to keep their hands close to their faces as a guard.
that might be but its not like he is doing a real lunge, he is talking and doing it slowly im sure if he was to do a full lunge at speed it would be fine.
i wanna learn but i cant find it at my area.so sad

lol @ these ignorant comments based on what you guys read, or saw on TV or even attended real matches.
I played fencing long ago, and I played for 6 years.
He said I am gonna guide you to (some) of the basics.
First:To LuciusTheFair You are partially right, but in my case my sword is Epee and the hand is a great issue with us.
Second: Yes the arms goes way up above your head where your biceps comes with straight line with your shoulder.

Thats a classic foil stance, go back and look at the 50's-60's and youll see it utilised, i'm not sure why it fell from favour.

Probably getting a foil tip in it would explain it.

Beginners should not be trying to teach fencing(or anything). This guy is a douchebag for thinking he is anywhere near good enough to do so.
I could litteraly beat him with my left hand(I'm right handed).

If your fencing is as good as your spelling is, I think the gentleman in the video has nothing to fear from you. Literally.

He doesn't need to fear me or anything. But based on what I saw in his profile, it is apparent that I am significantly better than he is.
And yes, I do fence better than I spell.
