Just visited South Bend, Washington for the first time and fell in love with it. I knew there had to be some history there. Thanks so much for the slide show so I can share it with my family.
I do indeed remember the Barge Inn. Lavinder's was a couple of building from it. My father and I went to the B.I. many times. The pilings are still there. Oh, how I long for those "good ol' days".
Been through South Bend all my life-great town. Am doing a bit of historical research, Does anyone remember a diner named the “Barge Inn”? made from a real canal barge. It was on the main drag next to what used to be the Alta-Vista Dairy Bldg., last vestiges torn down sometime in the 70’s. any info much appreciated. Thanx.

Sadly, I never had the pleasure of dining at the Barge Inn, I remember it as a kid, but it had closed by then. About what time period was it open?
