  • Original and True Swaggers. mm mmm mm now dats swag baby, Wdup New York!

  • Just a quick note of hope to southernbrooklyngal: of the dancers in this clip, one is still with us and still dancing and teaching. Arthur Duncan is the first one up in the Challenge and he is still alive, one of the few left of this phenomenal generation of dancers!

  • I just say this film...amazing I cried because all these greats are gone...love you all ..hope you guys are tap dancing in the sky...RIP

  • One of the older dancers was in an episode of The Cosby show as a janitor who has a "dance off" with Cliff. It was the gentleman with the glasses. He keep saying "Challenge!" to Cliff. Fantastic! Love them both!

  • @spoh32671 that was sandman simms he didnt play a janitor he was the other teacher at the dance studio!!!

  • how old was Savion in this video? anyone know?

  • i wish there was a love this shit button those guys are real heroes!

  • WE AIN'T GOT NO LEGS?

  • Too bad it's not really Samy doing this.

  • @wcd47 huh? it's not Sammy Davis junior? umm yes it is

  • @wcd47:

As in Sammy Davis, Jr. before he got sick.

  • @tw69hands2 this was his last movie , God rest his soul.

  • the viewing of this film should be mandatory for ALL tap students!!!

  • I love this movie!

  • @TamzUniqueSong:

    Me too.

  • As I trained in the martial arts, I found out why had such a respect for anyone who danced, period! I wouldn't even dream about doing this! Thank you, Splashkit, for this video.. At 65, I just now got me an education today..

  • Forgot Sammy davis Jr. was in this movie. I remember watching this as a kid Awesome dance scene!

  • I love a lot ! God bless Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis Jr ! A great and wonderful Dancers !

  • gimme my cane!!

  • CHALLONGEEEEEE!!

  • The dancers in order: Arthur Duncan, Bunny Briggs, Jimmy Slyde, Steve Condos, Harold Nicholas, Sandman Sims, Sammy Davis, Jr., Gregory Hines.

  • @CaptainOT The big boys.

  • @CaptainOT:

    Thanks...

  • I had the honor of seeing both of these great entertainers perform live on stage and no one else can ever compare to these men. One of my favorite movies too! Thanks for posting!

  • Sammy Davis, Jr. - The Greatest Entertainer That Ever Lived!!!!! RIP, Sammy.

  • The first greatest. I think Michael took the mantle after him :)

  • 1:53 "Challenge? Hot damn!!" LOL

Great clip! Love to see all these fantastic dancers together! And they were having a BALL! You can tell!

Anyone have any clips of Savion's dance scenes from this movie?

Thnx for posting! Definitely brought a smile to my face.

  • Thanks for posting !

  • the smiles on their faces. no acting here

  • im pretty sure for any passionate dancer watching its like having a rhymthmic orgasm lol. its that good to watch.

  • This scene needs to be required watching for any and all young tap students.

  • oh absolutely. genius and classical at its best.

  • this is soo amazing i cant get over at how good they are

  • what type of music was the piano player playing?

  • This masterful scene is the only good thing about the film "Tap". Sadly it was let down by the remaining hour and a half.

  • It is so AMAZING to watch these masters at work (or play). I did the math: Harold Nicholas was 68 when he did this movie and that split!

  • this was truly one of the best movies i ever watched when it came to watching some of the best dancers in tap.

  • Somebody tell me please!!!!where can i download this cool movie? dvd or avi!!!

  • make sure yall check out Stormy weather with the Nicholas Brothers they were the best to ever do it.

  • You can get this on DVD by the way...got it for christmas....brand new! Watching it tonight...love TAP! woop! =]

  • this is the best dancing in the movie.

  • "YOU THINK WE AIN'T GOT NO LEGS?"

i need this on dvd. NEED this.

  • And boom! The old dogs proceed to tell off the young pup.

  • Arthur Duncan KILLS it.

  • which one is arthur duncan???

  • Arthur Duncan is the one who went first.

  • were can u buy the dvd!

  • unfortunitely it's on on vhs. this movie is pretty old. something like............1984

  • 1988.

  • wats the name of this movie

  • it's called ............TAP....

  • CHALLUNGE!!

  • where is part 2?

    help somebody

  • Wow!! That was totally Awesome! Sammy was the man, and Gregory right behind him.. really sad that they are gone.. rip.

  • what the hell

  • Don't forget Pat Rico and Steve Condos are in the room. I believe that's Henry LeTang on the piano, he was also the choreographer and he taught the Hines brothers to tap and Savion. Dianne Walker does a turn later in the film, along with those weird electronic taps were by Alfred De Sio and I think you can still buy a set.

  • did you know that by the time he was six, gregory hines was already performing at the Apollo theatre

  • does anyone know where i can torrent this movie?

  • @t5y665yrty56

    try netflix

  • You ain't taking nothing, i got to give you this. lol

  • i love this its so nice i wanna tap dance now lol

  • thats righ!

    Challange!!

  • Yeah, the Challenger disaster was in 86.

  • One of my favorite movies of all time! I just wish this movie wasn't so hard to find. And Suzanne Douglass was sexy back then, too! I'm glad that I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Gregory Hines back in '87 at Venice Beach in Cali.

  • This is a classic scene to a fantastic movie !! If Hip Hop was to remake this into a rap form, it will be the shit !! Old School Vets: LL, Rakim, Busta, ICE CUBE, Black Thought, Snoop and one future emcee, let's say Drake in a video homage to this scene.

  • Man, would I love to see Sarah Reich (think Mya) and her lot pull off something like this.

  • challenge!!

  • pardon my mouth but: Those Guys are Fucking Brilliant!!

  • They were. They really were. Savion is the only one left I think.

  • You don't get talent like that much any more these days. The dedication, that much practice to get THAT good. Whew.

That and You really have to dig for an actor who's so well rounded enough to tap dance, act, direct, produce, and sing. he was on broadway and in film & television both. Just - wow.

  • Thanks so originalsmapper! I have been looking forever. You really helped me out.

  • dam

  • The absolute best scene of the movie, with the absolute best line: "you ain't got no legs." Don't challenge their egos!

  • I have been searching for this movie for over a month and still can't find it. This was a great movie. All of the legends show casing their talent. A true Classic! Rest in Peace gentlemen, You've all earned it! In the immortal words of Bob Hope: Thanks for the Memories"

  • Don't know if you're still looking... but here.

It's on DVD and available on AMAZON

  • Arthur Duncan is still around, and apparently so is Bunny Briggs.

  • What's this movie called. And why was that horrible woman so outraged by the end of the scene.

  • TAP is the name of the movie

  • Her father was ill and he shouldn't have been dancing.

  • BRILLANT!

  • one of the most amazing scenes ever to be in any film to date!

Jazz tapping, its sad that it's practically an extinct art :[ we'll always have these fine memories tho

  • old school masters!!

  • Arthur Duncan, the first of the dancers to dance in this clip, was on The Lawrence Welk Show, where the tap sounds were pre-recorded and he had to match his dancing to the sounds. HARDCORE.

  • GREAT!

  • After seeing this I SO want to get into TAP!! Never did it but seeing this sets my heart on FIRE!! <3

  • i watched this when i was much younger it was just a movie to me, now that im older i realize how much talent they have.

  • Sammy taught Gregory and Gregory taught Savion (who is the little boy in this film) I'm still in AWE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LMAO! 7:41 gimme my cane! this movie is a classic!

  • Damn, Harold Nicholas the one in the red shirt. He and his brother Fayard Nicholas bought excitement and acrobatics to tap. They were the best!!!! The Nicholas Brothers forever!!!!

  • 4:37- That was smooth right there! A spin followed by a split! That's why I've always liked tap dancing...the acrobatics and the splits!

  • The Nicholas Brothers were the best. go see "Stormy Weather" if you don't believe me. Hell, Gregory said they were the best, and he's awesome.

  • My favorite is Jimmy Slyde's routine. He was the smoothest tap dancer in my book.

  • amazing

  • luv these guys very talented luv tap!!!!!

  • CHALLEEEEENNNGGEE!!

  • Fan-bloody-tastic!!!!

  • FABULOUS!!!

  • who the hell does that ladie think she is

  • "what do you think of that slide? you've never seen that in your life" hahaha

  • My God, seeing Gregory, Sammy, Sandman and the rest of those guys dancing at that "challenge" only makes me miss those guys all the more. It was also great to see a young Savion Glover watching all this and turning out to be a terrific dancer himself. Must have been 13 or 14 years old when he did this movie. I wonder if he knew at the time just how legendary that scene would be.

  • What is this from? What movie?

  • Tap 1988 or 89. Wore out my dang vhs on this movie.

  • Love these two!!

  • Great movie! I used to watch it all the time :) R.I.P. Sammy and Gregory :)

  • Thank you Omnipharious

  • the great dancers-

and our generation is stuck with britney spears and her idiot mickey mouse friends.

  • Sadly, almost all of "the great dancers" have gone up to that great dance hall in the sky. Only Arthur Duncan (the first performer) remains.

  • Bunny Briggs, at 86, is also still with us. :)

  • But for how much longer? A duplicate of this video, since taken down, featured a comment that said Briggs died last year. I am not making this one up.

  • @Omnipharious Partly, it's our own fault; we have ourselves to blame for passing this knowledge on to our young people. Of course, they don't know.. Thus, we settle for mediocre crap! A pity, they all had to go before we realized what a real treasure we had!

  • women have to ruin everything

  • i know... geez!!

    the nerve to disturb men.-hahaha..

  • just like Claire Huxtable when she wouldnt let Cliff eat the sandwhiches or Pizz with Potatoe Chips

  • or like vivian banks- when she took all the junk food the phil hid around the house. even jeffery (the butler) couldn't help him- and he had to eat rice cakes.

is it just black women.? o.O

  • nah, that woman on king of queens gave her husband a hard time too, its all wives, they hate on everything

  • and they say jews got no rhythem.

  • who was the one doin the sliding?

  • they call him dr. slyde.

  • Jimmy Slyde to be exact.

  • That was Dr. Jimmy Slyde. He was the best in my book.

  • real talk. thanks for this man. true artistry right here

  • This is art.

  • One of my all time favorite movies!

  • TAP is the movie... People don't know how hard it is to tap dance and do it well. I respect anybody with these skills and love this movie

  • TRU!!!

  • awesome!!!!!!! never ever ever to old........luv ya sammy

  • YEA SAMMY WAS A BEAST!!

  • What is the name of this movie? What a fantastic scene! I could not stop smiling during this whole clip.

  • "TAP" IS THE NAME OF THE MOVIE
