Just a quick note of hope to southernbrooklyngal: of the dancers in this clip, one is still with us and still dancing and teaching. Arthur Duncan is the first one up in the Challenge and he is still alive, one of the few left of this phenomenal generation of dancers!
Just a quick note of hope to southernbrooklyngal: of the dancers in this clip, one is still with us and still dancing and teaching. Arthur Duncan is the first one up in the Challenge and he is still alive, one of the few left of this phenomenal generation of dancers!
One of the older dancers was in an episode of The Cosby show as a janitor who has a "dance off" with Cliff. It was the gentleman with the glasses. He keep saying "Challenge!" to Cliff. Fantastic! Love them both!
Great Movie! One of the best "dance" movies that's ever been done. To watch Sammy, Harold Nicholas and the others dance makes me wish I could learn to tap
As I trained in the martial arts, I found out why had such a respect for anyone who danced, period! I wouldn't even dream about doing this! Thank you, Splashkit, for this video.. At 65, I just now got me an education today..
I had the honor of seeing both of these great entertainers perform live on stage and no one else can ever compare to these men. One of my favorite movies too! Thanks for posting!
Don't forget Pat Rico and Steve Condos are in the room. I believe that's Henry LeTang on the piano, he was also the choreographer and he taught the Hines brothers to tap and Savion. Dianne Walker does a turn later in the film, along with those weird electronic taps were by Alfred De Sio and I think you can still buy a set.
One of my favorite movies of all time! I just wish this movie wasn't so hard to find. And Suzanne Douglass was sexy back then, too! I'm glad that I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Gregory Hines back in '87 at Venice Beach in Cali.
This is a classic scene to a fantastic movie !! If Hip Hop was to remake this into a rap form, it will be the shit !! Old School Vets: LL, Rakim, Busta, ICE CUBE, Black Thought, Snoop and one future emcee, let's say Drake in a video homage to this scene.
You don't get talent like that much any more these days. The dedication, that much practice to get THAT good. Whew.
That and You really have to dig for an actor who's so well rounded enough to tap dance, act, direct, produce, and sing. he was on broadway and in film & television both. Just - wow.
I have been searching for this movie for over a month and still can't find it. This was a great movie. All of the legends show casing their talent. A true Classic! Rest in Peace gentlemen, You've all earned it! In the immortal words of Bob Hope: Thanks for the Memories"
Arthur Duncan, the first of the dancers to dance in this clip, was on The Lawrence Welk Show, where the tap sounds were pre-recorded and he had to match his dancing to the sounds. HARDCORE.
Damn, Harold Nicholas the one in the red shirt. He and his brother Fayard Nicholas bought excitement and acrobatics to tap. They were the best!!!! The Nicholas Brothers forever!!!!
My God, seeing Gregory, Sammy, Sandman and the rest of those guys dancing at that "challenge" only makes me miss those guys all the more. It was also great to see a young Savion Glover watching all this and turning out to be a terrific dancer himself. Must have been 13 or 14 years old when he did this movie. I wonder if he knew at the time just how legendary that scene would be.
But for how much longer? A duplicate of this video, since taken down, featured a comment that said Briggs died last year. I am not making this one up.
