According to Wikipedia, Utah Beach was one of, if not the weakest Beach. The 4th infantry division only suffered approximately 200 casualties; the 82nd Airborne turned the attention of the 709th infantry division and the 352nd forces to them. So, the 4th infantry division met with little resistance.
Dads ship the USS Corry led the invasion and was the lead destroyer. It was hit by 2 salvos and sunk. 13 men still rest within the Corry's wreckage May they rest in peace until the time the sea gives up her dead.
even though i dont have any relatives or anything that was in normandy i love the men that sacrificed their lives for normandy someday when im older and have cash im going to normandy
That is a shame. Visiting the whole Normandy area was a humbling experience for a late 20th century softee like myself. The shear scale of it is beyond words. I tip my hat to all veterans of that day and that war. Please pass my respect and regards to your father.
just seeing the beach gives me chills. i am a huge WW2 history buff and i have the utmost respect for the men who served on all fronts and what they must've went through.
I found loads of pillboxes along the coast. The area is pretty desolate and there are many just lying abandoned. I visited several underground bunkers but as they are effectively caves with no lighting I didn't film inside them. Many are freely open to the public although some are flooded and not particularly inviting. If you plan to visit I recommend the Holts Battlefield guide: 'Normandy Landing Beaches' and the accompanying map are very useful.

Overwhelming view of what greeted the soldiers on their arrival! To think they had to get out and make it across that great expanse!

My father was wounded at Utah beach and I wish he could get back to see the area today, but health does not permit.

Must agree with you. Seeing some of the spots where events really took place brings it all home.
Have you read the DDay & Normandy WWII books by Joseph Balkowski? Superb stuff.
