  • what settings are you running on the tig welder? did you use 100% argon?

  • very nice, i'm jealous of your welding skills. I can only guess that your brewing skills are nothing short of them

  • i must say that i am impressed and thankful that you have posted this video. i just bought a half barrel keg off ebay for $36 and just picked it up locally. now i have to find a welder friend of mine to do the work! but this video has shown me what needs to be done, and once again, thank you. you did a really professional job as well, congrats!

  • Next time get the lid first so you can measure the hole.

  • You are a genius!

  • Outstanding demonstration. THANKS!!!!

  • can i just pay you to do this haha

  • That air sander sounds like a visit to the dentist

  • Great vids. Just wish I had the equipment to do this!

  • I wish I had your tools dude.

  • you don't have any concerns about using solar flux on something that will come in contact with beer? their web site even frowns on using it in food contact applications

  • @coachshatner I've since taken to back gassing my welds rather than using flux. Properly cleaned, I don't see an issue with flux, but I'd rather purge with gas.

  • you could even cook chips in this thing

  • Thanks for taking the time to document this. In south Louisiana, the first step of your project is called a crawfish boiler. Nice work. You know your stuff.

  • Is your earlier measurement for the hole accurate?

  • Thank you very much for this informative video.

  • Have you run into corrosion problems (I noticed there was NA dip) ?

  • good work

  • thanks for sharing

  • You should have purged with argon from the inside. and not penetrated the wall of the keg with the coupling. If you drill the hole slightly larger you could have made a full pen. weld from the outside and then you would have a sanitary weld.

Since there are now crevices on the inside where the coupling, and keg meet bacteria and organic matter now have place to collect. It is not a sanitary weld.

Just thought I would let you know.

  • @lollipopbeast00 Just thought I would let you know that this mans work is awesome, and having a "sanitary" weld isn't important in the aspect you put it. Think before you post, this keggle is going to BOIL wort. I'm not sure if your familiar with boiling temperatures but is 212 F or if your anywhere outside America its 100 C, which 99% of microorganisms cannot survive. Oh, and typical boil times are 1 hour. Just thought I would let you know.

  • You could definitely go in to a business with those. You did such an awesome job!!! Nice and clean and built to last! you did a Killer job man. Wish i could buy one from you :)

  • Nice work, I enjoyed the series. I have all the supplies but a TIG torch - I suppose I could use fluxcore but wouldn't look as nice.

  • Very Nice, Now I godda go Find A free Keg from A backalley.

  • What height do you drill the hole for the center of stainless coupling ?

  • can i just buy one from u?

  • Well done. You might consider building a cradle to hold the cage during all the machining.

Also, to clean it up beautifully, you could soda (baking soda) blast it.

  • have u considered welding from the inside? what does the weld look like on the interior? usually u will have bulk spots of melted metal or cracks from not complete penetration on the opposite side of the weld. perhaps a sealant on the interior if u do an exterior weld? or vice versa? Ill be attempting to do this sometime this week and may post a reply video of my success or failure. :D cheers

  • Is there any residue left from the solar flux? Is it toxic? Great video series. You did an amazing job.

  • Is that an aluminum or steel keg?

  • I don't have access to TIG, but I own a Mig as well as Oxy/propane torch. Thin metal scares me with the Mig, not much experience with anything but thick stuff. Any idea how well would the stainless braze with oxy/propane?

  • amazing!

  • three wonderful videos! thank you so much for posting them

  • Love the video. I'm about to make one of these, with the help from a friend who has a shop. I've also ordered a ng burner just like the one you show in your third video. Do you have any recommendations for a regulator, distance from the kettle, etc. with this burner?

  • Still very nice work, thnx 4 responding

  • How can I buy two from you, nice work??

  • Sorry, none for sale.

  • Awesome work! Are you in albuquerque by any chance, i will pay you to make one for me i got a few shells.

  • Thanks for the vid. What do you think about the no-weld valves?

  • Nothing wrong with weldless fittings. I just prefer the durability and neatness of welded fittings.

  • what size coupler is that?

  • 1/2" NPT

  • Where do you get the stainless ball valve? Thanks. Nice Vid.

  • minus the cleaning, how long would you say all the drilling, cutting and welding took? Also what would you say a reasonable shop/welder would charge for this kind of job?

  • It takes an hour or so to complete the job excluding cleaning. I'd say $50 to $75 would be reasonable for a shop to charge.

  • Would you just look in the yellow pages for a "welding shop" or would it be called something else?

  • That'd probably work just fine.

  • sweet! thanks for the video tutorials...they're awesome

  • I posted the same comment before - the keg is legit - retired. It was so old, I had to scrub it for HOURS to get the stench of the rancid beer left in it from YEARS ago. I think I saved this keg from the scrapyard rather than pilfering it from Latrobe.

  • I finished high school long long ago and my friends and I loved to skinney dip in the Latrobe resevior we drank Iron City Beer amd thought RR tasted like piss. Now they have left Latrobe (6/06)big Bus. buy out!!##@@$%

  • I hope the folks at Rolling Rock don't chase down every lost (stolen) keg. Stainless brings high prices at recyclers and brewers are feeling the bite!

  • Thanks!

As this will be my hot liquor tank, it requires no false bottom.

I will probably post a few short homebrewing clips sometime in the next few months.

  • nice vid, you made some false bottom for this pot? I think that you must upload videos of as you making beer!
