@tratdall If you want to start cheap go for used Canons instead. Good value if you instead to use video. I use a Nikon DSLR so no bias here. But if the video is important to you, buy a Canon. Especially if you don't have much money. You can get an used Canon like 550D, 500D or 450D for pretty cheap. But if you already bough one the d40 it's a really good camera anyway. Not so sure for the video possibilities on that one :)
I just got this lens and when you are manual focusing, does it make a good amount of noise? Cause even when I'm manual focusing during video i can hear a lot of noise picked up by the camera (and I can hear it myself as im focusing).
@winterized123 hi. 70% stills (upgrade from a d40) and 30% video. i know there are better slr's with video but im fine with this one. i don't want to carry a camcorder and a camera so the d90 is really handy. its not like ima shootin movies, just clips of my kids playing around.
