what do they mean with blunred? how stupid should ema feels now she knows why jane didn't like her, she was the cover of the secret, he used her by pretending flirting with her to protect his relation with jane... poor ema in just one say she seemed to loose all her possible prospects... "you should stop talking and go, I need to think"
She is turning into a FINE woman; shes starting to sound like Mr. Knightly!! :) You can also see she loves him; by the same token!! :) I still think Mr. Churchill is an ass!! But; that part meeting in the square is ROMANTIC!!! "Did you hear the news Frank Churchill; and Jane Fairfax?" Emma jaw drops; thinks, "Shes not upset?!!" Face goes white, "Em i right to think; that your talking of Mr. Knightly?!" REALLY?!!! REALLY?!! whered she get the idea; he liked her; hes nice that way with everyone.
I love how Emma starts doing/saying things that inadvertently hint at her feelings for Mr. Knightley. Like saying "Badly done indeed" and being drawn to sitting in his chair like a magnet when Harriet is talking about how wonderful he is. It's so sweet. Romola was brilliant in this whole series.
Jane is a bitch, she was inlove and engaged to frank but kept it a secret and let her man flirt with emma and made mockery of her in public no wonder she hates emma, and poor emma thinking frank was one of her friends betrayed and lied to her.
Alright, before you all chew out Hariet, you should remember... what a HUMBLE dumbe girl she was at the beginning. Without Emma's constant praise and pushing, she never would have become this way. I don't care for her either, never did. But, Emma did bring this on herself by creating the Hariet that could think herself loved by Mr. Knightly.
On a side note 4:15 to 4:48 is ADORABLE. I don't even like that couple, and that scene was still just soooo cute :)
Emma's face at 8:28 when Harriet says "You are too generous a friend to set yourself against us" is hilariuos. It looks like she's thinking "No, the hell I'm not!"
Truly, for me, the best characterization of the novel Emma; they are as I have imagined them when I read the book the first time. Emma, a coming of age story about a young woman is introduced to the world. Mr. Knightly *sigh*... Love this. I really love it.
All the little hints about the fact that she loves Knightly in the scene between Emma and Mrs. Weston make me so happy. Like, when she's asking what's wrong and she's listing people and she just says "Knightly?" because she knows him so well. And then she says "Badly done indeed!" just like Knightly does!!! LOVE MR. KNIGHTLY!!!
even though frank might have been a little rude by acting the way he did, all that is forgiven by me because of that scene when they meet in the town square and they way he kisses her and then picks her up and twirls her around. that is who he really is, the sweet caring man!!
If I was Jane, I'd have to slap Frank just ONCE before kissing him. Just one good slap for playing the happy bachelor SO convincingly without regard to my feelings. A good slap and then straight to happily ever after snogging :)
@yoyoeq Haha, I know what you mean, but to be honest I think it'd be pretty hard to not fall for Mr Knightley after he was so amazingly gentlemanly =) ;-)
Yes, I thought the same. And besides, that Romola Garai acting Emma behaves like a market woman. She ist so vulgar in her body-acting. She ist loud, she never walks upstraight, but all the time bent like an old woman. She giggles all the time - nothing of Jane Austen's Emma, who was proud to belong to the first family of Highbury...
if I was jane I would have dumped frank

I love this scene. Harriet is so clueless and Emma's emotions are all over the place. She can't even sit still.
I'd feel like Emma if I were in this situation, too.

I don't quite understand if Mrs Bates forgave Emma or not for what Emma said on Boxhill... kind of confused with the whole movie from here on...

i think they may have taken a lot of liberties with the screenplay, because most of Austen's words have been modernized for a modern audience!
