First modern taekwondo be it wtf or itf is mainly based on shotokan. ITF patterns are basically the same and wtf patterns are different but stances kicks and strikes etc are the same. 2nd the WTF sets out standards of testing, color belt up to and including BB you can be tested on any and all patterns you know. Its not common to not test your highest but it does happen. And there is no brown belt in tkd, and no taebaek in karatae internet experts ftl
I had a nightmare the other night that I was testing for my 3rd degree and I didn't know anything. Thanks to your videos I am able to study the forms i couldn't remember, and observe the ones I did remember. Thank you.
@withzyou what are you talking about? are you trying to say shotokan is better because i am a third degree in both taekwondo and karate and i gotta be honest, shotokan was a very boring style when it came to forms. it's lazy, and too many cat stances
@1997stewart maybe in the 'States where the tests tend to be more difficult - my first dan test back home sure was. But here in Korea, I tested at the Kukkiwon for my 2nd dan with Koryo and a random Taegeuk along with two minutes of light sparring - first dan = Taegeuk 8. For the third dan test I am practicing Kumgang. Look at the official WTF site and see the actual requirements. In Korea it is more of a formality after your instructor has recommended you for the test.
@Boo4716 no thats totally wrong. well idk i guess their different based on wether its WTF or ITF. stuff like that. but im positive that in WTF taekwondo which ive been doing for 11 years straight that koryo is 1st kumgang is 2nd and taebaek is 3rd.
Almost every school is different. So it could be 2nd or 3th dan. The only way we would know is if Kukkiwon tells us themselves . As for me I'm learning it in 3th dan.
@TraditionalTKD koryo is 2nd, keumgang is 3rd, taebaek is 4th...however, in testing, it's expected from students or masters to perform the next higher form...
@ecchymosis666 Incorrect. Koryo and Kumgang are 1st Dan, Kumgang and Taebaek are 2nd Dan, Taebaek and PyongWon are 3rd Dan, PyongWon and SipJin are 4th Dan.
When i learned this form I was taught that the palm blocks were controlled breathing with tensed up muscles. Did they change it or something? This guy did them as if they were just regular speed.
lol this is more for instructional purposes so thats why he's doing it a bit slow. But really, what really represents the "lightness" is the speed of the kicks, double punches, simultaneously side kick & punch, combo punches and chops, and elbows. Those factors represent the lightness, not the pace of how he moves. Remember, its also to resemble the hardiness and strength of the mountain as well.
For me
Koryo - 1st dan
Taebak and Keumgang - 2nd dan
pyongwon - 3rd dan etc

why do all these videos need to have WTF at the end of the name

@roguerthree1 World Taekwondo Federation. People learning from teachers who don't use wtf as a guideline might teach the forms differently.
