  • Geez, Taking everything too seriously. I love this album. Id put it in my top 10, right by OK Computer, and Nevermind. Facelift

  • I wish Weezer made more music like this album or the blue one

  • Get Jew AAHHAUUH

  • I hate this emo shit.

  • @SimonGallegosFTW I hate this SimonGallegosFTW shit.

  • @SimonGallegosFTW Get out and go listen to Raditude. This whole album is one of their greatest.

  • @SimonGallegosFTW Haha emo? Come on man this is weezer, some of their music is hilarious. They're just average guys, this song might sound pretty serious but that's just because it isn't recorded so they can fix mistakes. The imperfections make it great and they respect the mistakes. I mean I side with you that emo music sucks horribly but this isn't as much emo as it is a pure rock sound.

  • Lol a 50:1 Like ratio. 50.3:1 now :)

  • For some reason this was the only song on Pinkerton I didn't like it at first, but once you listen to it more, it becomes just amazing as the other songs on this album :)

  • \m/

  • @SuperAwesomePJ you're dumb, shes a lesbian.

  • @SuperAwesomePJ If this album were an album, I would make love to it.

  • Well, Emo is defined by confessional and expressive lyrics, and abrasive but also melodic guitars. A lot of songs on Pinkerton, such as Tired of Sex, El Scorcho, and especially the song No Other One are like this. I consider this to be an emo album, but not in a bad way.

  • @TheWinniken Is the offspring emo too?

  • @danlikesmusicalot Weezer is not emo. Different genre, different sound. If any song with emotional content was considered "emo", then 90% of all songs ever written would be classified that way.

  • @joadha Weezer we're the 2nd wave of Emo.. When it was actually still good and meaningful.. Like early Jimmy Eat World... Untill the Fallout Boy and MCR fags came in and just whined about 'not being popular in highschool'

  • @SuperMegabar Yeah, they were sort of a counter point to Nirvana - Static Prevails is far and away my favority Jimmy Eat World release

  • Weezer's best album. The other stuff was too poppy and uplifting. This is the real shit.

  • "This Is beginning to hurt!! This is beginning to be Cereal!!"

  • If you think Weezer is emo, you need to broaden your musical horizons and add a few more genres before you classify. Wait another few years, 15 isn't old, there is no way you have enough musical knowledge to deride people for not being a historian. Weezer is pop/alternative/garage rock, depending on the year, and Pinkerton verged closer to garage/grunge compared the Blue Albums fairly just alt/garage rock. They merged more into pop later with Green and past.

  • @BanzaiM50 it's easier to classify using one umbrella term though, emo usually means something like "emotional music" and weezer (atleast for pinkerton and some of blue) was definatley that, even though they played with elements of grunge, power pop, metal, indie rock etc

  • weezer is not emo

  • @born2shred2000 I don't think you know what emo sounded like in the '90s.

  • @born2shred2000 You're right, Weezer's not emo.however, is one of the earliest forms of emo.

"Weezer's 1996 album Pinkerton is often cited as one of the first emo albums. Pinkerton's lyrical content explores aspects that emo is founded upon. The extensive use of distortion in Pinkerton was influential on emo music. Additionally, Weezer lead singer Rivers Cuomo's passionate, singing on the album would play a large role in inspiring the scream-sing vocal style that emo bands became famous for."

  • @lazrpo *Pinkerton, however

  • @lazrpo Actually the band Rites of Spring is considered the first emo band, and their debut album came out in 1985, 11 years before this album. Not trying to be a smart ass, just thought you'd want to know.

  • @TheWinniken The Juliana Theory was also around before Weezer. However, I never considered Weezer to be emo, so I don't know why they are being labelled as such.

  • Weezer. Fuck yeah.

  • soz everybody but this is 90s emo, its self doubt lyrics mixed with hard power chords which were classified as emo in 90s

  • GETCHOO AHUH!!!! <--dats me singing it x)

  • I think emo was the "EMOtional side of punk". It's just a branch of punk. But whatevs, lines get blurred with some bands. And as for people who say just listen to the music. Duh. Scroll up if you don't want to read comments. The comments section IS for comments.

  • My favourite Weezer song. Btw, these comments below never fail to make me laugh. You're all pathetic, JUST LISTEN TO THE MUSIC. Idiots.

  • The last three letters of the URL are Omg. I think that suits this pretty well.

  • @9889lizzy It's people like you that are killing the internet.

  • @yojaret Totally. Being whoever I want to be always kills everything. *sigh* Why does this always happen to me?

  • @9889lizzy OMG

  • Wish this song was longer :)

  • DAT SNARE.

  • @theninjamofo ...Lmfao, what? No, it's not. Please tell me you were just fucking with me.

  • Weezer is NOT EMO..it's fucking weezer!!

  • people assume that because someone doesn't sing with a deep voice there emo thats like saying boston is a emo band just cuz dude can hit notes that chicks cant people need to learn the difference in great music and emo bullshit

  • Fuck emo ! This was Alternative.

  • Emo is the music you play if you like to stab yourself for fun. Weezer, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, and Three Days Grace aren't emo. I think that Papa Roach and Tokio Hotel are, but I'm not sure. Now shut up.

  • @piemanbeatle LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • @xSobhan One way to identify an emo band is the amount of pain one could induce by stabbing yourself with whatever the band is named after. (Nine Inch Nails)

  • @piemanbeatle

... except Nine Inch Nails is the farthest thing from emo... It's alternative industrial. FAR from emo

  • @morbidlyxyours Then what bands are emo?

  • @piemanbeatle I don't know if whoever you were asking answered you, but I'll tell you what bands are emo. Cap'n Jazz, Algernon Cadwallader, Street Smart Cyclist, Mineral, Snowing, American Football, and much more.

  • @Eseress Fair enough, but the members of the band nine inch nails still stab themselves with nine inch nails while whining about how misunderstood they are. Then they record it, and they call it music.

  • @piemanbeatle What the fuck are you talking about? If you're being satirical I can't sense it. They do not do that at all.

  • @Eseress YES. Didn't think I'd come across someone on a Weezer video who's into those bands. I love those bands.

  • @crassisdead :D Very nice.

  • @piemanbeatle You're a complete idiot if you just suggested that Nine Inch Nails is an emo band.

  • @kiloggolik Fine, they aren't. But they do stab themselves with nine inch nails, so their music isn't emo but they themselves are.

  • @piemanbeatle Wrong again. The band name is a sacrilegious reference. Jesus was nailed to the cross with nine inch nails.

  • @kiloggolik The members of nine inch nails would all have enjoyed that. And would have worn eyeliner while they enjoyed it.

  • @piemanbeatle Fact: No members of the band Nine Inch Nails wear eyeliner, nor do they sing about self-inflicted pain or have emo vocals.

  • @kiloggolik what about the song hurt that song is emo as fudge... Get your shit right.

  • Comment removed

  • @eyesic Emotional =/= Emo. Learn the difference, fucking idiot.

  • @kiloggolik your the fucking idiot, nine inch nails is EMO people who listen to it are cutting themselves as we speak. They Call themselves NINjas cus they cut themselves with swords... Weezer>NIN

  • @eyesic ahahahahaha, fucking troll. They're emo because you say they are? Their fans cut themselves because you say they do? You're fucking igorant. Why do I even bother, you're just some teenaged little shit that knows absolutely nothing about music. If you're going to call NIN is emo, then you really need to read up on some fucking weezer lyrics dude.

  • @eyesic Emo has nothing do with cutting yourself or depression or any of that bullshit. Emo is a music genre plain and simple. It means music like Sunny Day Real Estate, Jimmy Eat World, Braid, The Get Up Kids, Saves the Day and yes, Weezer. Just because some depressing and angsty bands are emo doesn't mean all depressing and angsty bands are emo nor does it mean that all emo is depressing or angsty.

  • @drogaz1 Well said.

  • Comment removed

  • PInkerton came out pre-emo, it inspired much of the emo genera. It came out before "Emo" was a thing.

  • YYYEEEEESSSSSS!!!!! :::D

  • The only reason anyone wouldn't admit Weezer (or at very least Pinkerton era) is Emo is that they dislike the genre's fanbase. How about we call it "emotioncore"? Would that be better?

  • :3

Rivers may be 40, but he's still sexy :D

  • Thumbs up if you think Rolling Stone magazine are a bunch of douchers for ripping this album in '96 and then turning around and giving it 5 stars in 2004. I remember being a teenager and loving this album while the mainstream said "it sucked!"

  • @suntzufreeman1 Preach, brother. I agree completely.

  • @suntzufreeman1 They tried to copy Pitchfork I guess who are like the snobbiest raters and gave Pinkerton a 10/10.

  • @suntzufreeman1 Rolling Stone does that alot, like giving "nevermind" 3/5 then changing it to 5/5, although I dont know much about the magazine, I think they only have one guy listen to it and grade it, then later on someone from the same place recognizes it as good and changes the grade. Thats the only logical thing I can think of.

  • @suntzufreeman1 did the same thing for nirvanas nevermind and then put it in greatest albums of all time -_-

  • @suntzufreeman1 dude even weezer distanced themselves from the album at the time...I think it was in SPIN....stopped listening to them after their next album.

  • @suntzufreeman1 YES! FUCK rolling stone magazine!!

  • @suntzufreeman1 Fucking Rolling Stone in general. It has been corporate drizzle for well over 30 years now.

  • The main difference between this song and emo is that this song is actually good.

  • @realslimvulcan a good emo song, don't be so close minded

  • This right here is quite frankly the shit.

Sukkeltje.

  • so powerful. especially the ending

  • Fuck u people and just listen to the music it does'nt matter if ur EMO/PUNK/R&B/ROCK or something

  • @marclord201 yeah indeed, I prefer old rock and roll, but still listen to metal, punk, ... even elektro or dubsteb so...

  • @Eseress 20% of people commenting on this song are so overly superficial they believe emo is a real thing.

  • "Emo (pronounced /ˈiːmoʊ/) is a style of rock music typically characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics." not saying wikipedia is always right buuut.

  • Emos should be shot. kill you're self or get over it. but don't drag out you're pathetic existence.

  • Comment removed

  • @terepotere I don't think you know what emo is then.

  • The E word is a dirty word. Stop dropping E bombs. Wasn't a common term in '96.

  • This = Real Emo, 90's Emo, Midwest Emo Sound.

MTV lied to you, TV lied to you. Real emo has nothing to do with make up, tight jeans, and girly haircuts. My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, fuckin metalcore and crappy deathcore are not emo.

Emo was not short for emotional, was short for emotive, and this album was very representative for the Real Emotive Hardcore genre.

  • =W=

  • pinkerton is better dan blue

  • so just because this song sounds like metal all of the sudden Weezer is emo??? WTF

  • Dear God, this song is a punch in the face of sound and emotion. =w=

  • god emo isnt even a real word... freaking ignorant people pulling words out of the internet and irrationally labeling it to things.

  • What's emo?

  • weezer is a genre. weezer are weezer

  • how can you think this is emo like everyother 90's band. not emo just good rock. pinkerton is a little on the meatal side but not emo

  • this is actually one of the most important albums of the real emo era back then. kids these days ALWAYS think that it has to have eyeliner and be more modern emo to be emo. like post hardcore bands. they dont understand it. Emo became a fashion sense where teens think its all about eyeliner and nail polish. thanks to our goth cousins. THIS IS AND WAS EMO. if ur too stupid to know that then go get some history kid. BTW IM 15

  • @poying55 You are only 15, what do you know of history? Im 31 and been listening to Weezer since they first broke out. There was no such things as emo back then and they werent even considered that at all. If im not too much of a dinosaur and my memory serves me correct the correct labeling would be ALTERNATIVE. Every kind of music comes from emotions so dont go labeling everything emo cuz otherwise i can simply call R&B emo and that be silly now wouldnt it? Perhaps you learned somthing today.

  • @DividedIStand80 Don't go around dissing people for being young. Just cuz their young doesn't mean their option doesn't matter. But I do agree. This is not "emo"

  • @lickapotato First of all, tis cool for agreeing. Second, if you re-read my comment no where in there was there a diss.

  • @DividedIStand80 Well I do agree you never bluntly dissed younger people but you were implying he didn't know anything about music history. I'm actually only 17 myself but I wholeheartedly enjoy brilliance of Pinkerton and other great albums like slanted and enchanted and in an aeroplane over the sea. But ya poying55 sounds like a fag.

  • @poying55 personally i would have called pinkerton alternative, but if you wanna be a youtube rebel and complain about nothing feel free :)

  • @poying55 yeah, no, this isn't emo.

  • @poying55 Actually, you can make a pretty strong case for "EMO", a term with very little meaning outside of highschool, originating as an aside to the punkrock scene in and around 1980. A number of music journalists have written books on the topic.

Generally speaking, you can't expect modern emo kids to transform themselves into hipsters right around the time they finish college and decide not to get a job.

  • I would just like to point out that Pinkerton is Emo.I would clasify this as Emo just due to the way that Rivers writes songs about his Feelings and it has a raw sound. There isn't anything wrong with it though XD

  • emo? morons

  • @AlexJunglist they only say its emo because thats what wikipedia classifies it as

  • You guys don't know what emo means xD

  • how emo.

  • Why don't we all just agree that they're awesomeness:)!!!

  • weezer is not emo this is just a good 90's rock that is amazing if anything call nirvanna emo even thought there not.

  • @wiipartyhard if they're not emo then why call them it?

  • @ohheemgeeex33 rock and roll. technically alternative

  • weezer is the original emo.

The emo you know today, oh wait, where did all the emos go? oh yeah, they stopped getting popular. The only ones still around are these original ones that are actual nerds who have had relationship problems all they want is love in their life. Not a kid who hates their parents and cuts him/herself just to fit in to society.

  • @SparklyCheeseburger last time I checked rap is still a form of music and like it or not it is prominant in the music society. Rap-rock is rising in popularity

just because they add rap to some of their songs doesn't mean they are selling out

they just love what they do and Rivers keeps writing what he feels.

  • @krazykingawesome sorry im just not into rap, half of it is like autotuned anyway thats not exactly talent.... SOME rap is people with talent half of its not...

  • Weezer isn't emo. tcdahn7 got it right, it's nerd rock. Rivers plays Warhammer and reads comics. That's full on nerd.

And you can't compare them to Muse... they are both totally different.

Both totally awesome, but totally different.

  • ¯W¯

  • This is pretty Grungy! Me likey!

  • Weezer wasn't emo...rofl....hahahaha dumbass..they were nerd rock....anyway....it's sad weezer sucks nowadays

  • greatest. album. ever.

  • Such a good song. I'm debating whether to go to pinkerton night or blue album night when weezer comes to NYC. its gonna be a tough decision

  • @LoadedCarver9 go to both! :D

  • Comment removed

  • @LoadedCarver9 I am having the exact same dilemma! But my decision will be rushed and I will probably come to regret whatever it is because the presale will be over tomorrow night at 6.

  • @Acher77

no muse's uno sounds like weezer's getchoo--it's not the other way around:

    weezer>muse.

  • @UROCKMYSOX249 that may be true in the 90's but not now, sorry

  • @SparklyCheeseburger

    again, Weezer> Muse

    and

    Weezer fans>Muse Fans

    FOREVER =W=

  • @UROCKMYSOX249 hahahaah no I'm sorry but weezers last 2 albums have been really bad... atleast muse never sold out and put rap in their songs

  • @SparklyCheeseburger muse has never sold out? how bout that twilight song man?

  • @BullyMagnets atleast their sound didnt change, and they didnt put out 3 albums within 2 years that all sounded like poppy crap

  • @BullyMagnets That has nothing to do with selling out. Selling out, like cheeseburger said, is changing the band's sound to something it's not supposed to be due to what's popular. Writing a song for a movie is aside from that.

  • @SparklyCheeseburger Are you saying rap is bad? Please check Charizma and MF DOOM. And, Muse is terrible. Muse never had a good album, and Weezers Blue and Pinkerton are some of the best albums produced ever. Not to mention SFTBH is atleast in the top 10 or 7 greatest albums of the 90s.

  • Emo = Convoluted. This is 90's alt rock if you ask me.

  • that chorus riff is nasty as hell too. i love it.

  • why is this the only good album weezer ever released?

  • @soulthrasher9 I know right? I think they suck besides the Pinkerton album too, never liked them at all until I heard this record. But yea, everything after this is fucking terrible IMO.

  • 80% of the people commenting this song have no idea what emo really is.

  • @Eseress

Whatever it is, Weezer is NOT it.

  • @BeatnickIntellectual Pinkerton is one of the best emo albums ever made.

  • @xSobhan

    you can go die

  • @BeatnickIntellectual i see the mass media has affected you greatly

  • @xSobhan

    Weezer is definitely Alternative Rock.

  • @InoFan01 yes mostly, but this album is definitively emo, theres nothing wrong with emo music. theres actually really good emo songs out there, but since the hot topic era, emo haircut and skin tight jeans its gotten a bad rap.

i guarantee you 99% of people who hear 'emo' think of the typical teen with the haircut over the eyes, they have no idea where the term actually came from

  • @xSobhan

Well, I never said anything bad about emo music. I do listen to a few emo bands, and I know what emo is. But this album most definitely isn't emo. At all. XD If you look this album up anywhere, it is under the genre "Altern. Rock." I'm sure if you went up to Weezer and asked them they'd say so too. XP (Not that I'm trying to give offense to emo music or anything, 'cause as I stated above, I have nothing against it.)

  • @InoFan01 oh, well most of the people on here saying its not emo are being offended that people are calling this album emo so i just assumed.

But i've seen this album on quite a few of the "greatest emo albums" list, and i'm sure weezer didn't intend on making it an emo album, it just came out that way.

  • @xSobhan

Really? I never would have assumed that anyone would classify Weezer, of all bands, as emo. XD And it's all good, it easy to assume stuff like that. =P Just so I can get an understanding, what bands do you call emo?

  • @InoFan01 /watch?v=9M0EbU-qE54

  • @xSobhan

I see. I could classify that as emo, but I don't really think it's like Pinkerton. XP See, bands that I'd call emo are something like Hawthorne Heights and Alesana.

  • @Eseress 80% of statistics are made up on the spot

  • @xSobhan Obviously I was being satirical.

  • @Eseress EMO is the gray area between gay and goth

  • @XRingcutter Uh no, it's actually a genre from the 80s that resulted from hardcore punk.

  • @everyone

ppl. shut up. just rock out to these songs. i dont care if its emo, punk, alternative rock, death metal, easy listening or bubblegum pop - it still is one of the best albums of all time.

  • I remember loving this album when it came out...and i also remember people hating on this album when it came out too...it was weird, this album went nowhere...then years later...emo kids discovered it.

    i'm 32 by the way

  • I bought this cd the day it came out and 15 years later I can still start to finish it. Awesome

  • It doesnt matter what any of you say, pinkerton is an emo album. The rest of weezer's work might not be, but this is.

  • Pinkerton IS an emo album. This was one of the first emo albums. Everyone who claims this isn't an emo album is just taking today's "emo" and saying "WEEZER ISNT LIKE HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS." No. But Pinkerton IS emo, this is true emotion in these songs, it's beautiful, not whiny like modern day SHIT.

  • @dradfromthebu Real emo was the branch of hardcore in the mid-1980s that started in the Washington DC scene with bands like Rites of Spring, Pinkerton is nowhere near that sonic level. What makes your argument ironic is that Pinkerton was in the exact same position of having emo misapplied to it as Hawthorne Heights have today. Emo does not stand for emotional, all music is emotional no matter how shitty you may think it sounds.

  • @Jamekae Couldn't be said any better bro

  • Every time someone calls Weezer emo I chuckle to myself. :3

  • Awesome tune

  • Emo is a specific genre of music, you can't just go around labelling all music that shows emotion as emo, then everything would be emo because all music expresses emotion.
