They merged more into pop later with Green and past.

I would just like to point out that Pinkerton is Emo.I would clasify this as Emo just due to the way that Rivers writes songs about his Feelings and it has a raw sound. There isn't anything wrong with it though XD

Emo does not stand for emotional, all music is emotional no matter how shitty you may think it sounds.

this is actually one of the most important albums of the real emo era back then. kids these days ALWAYS think that it has to have eyeliner and be more modern emo to be emo. like post hardcore bands. they dont understand it. @poying55 You are only 15, what do you know of history? Im 31 and been listening to Weezer since they first broke out. There was no such things as emo back then and they werent even considered that at all. If im not too much of a dinosaur and my memory serves me correct the correct labeling would be ALTERNATIVE. Every kind of music comes from emotions so dont go labeling everything emo cuz otherwise i can simply call R&B emo and that be silly now wouldnt it? Perhaps you learned somthing today.

@poying55 Actually, you can make a pretty strong case for "EMO", a term with very little meaning outside of highschool, originating as an aside to the punkrock scene in and around 1980. A number of music journalists have written books on the topic.
Generally speaking, you can't expect modern emo kids to transform themselves into hipsters right around the time they finish college and decide not to get a job.

I would just like to point out that Pinkerton is Emo.I would clasify this as Emo just due to the way that Rivers writes songs about his Feelings and it has a raw sound. There isn't anything wrong with it though XD

@InoFan01 yes mostly, but this album is definitively emo, theres nothing wrong with emo music. theres actually really good emo songs out there, but since the hot topic era, emo haircut and skin tight jeans its gotten a bad rap.
i guarantee you 99% of people who hear 'emo' think of the typical teen with the haircut over the eyes, they have no idea where the term actually came from

Well, I never said anything bad about emo music. I do listen to a few emo bands, and I know what emo is. But this album most definitely isn't emo. At all. XD If you look this album up anywhere, it is under the genre "Altern. Rock." I'm sure if you went up to Weezer and asked them they'd say so too. XP (Not that I'm trying to give offense to emo music or anything, 'cause as I stated above, I have nothing against it.)

But i've seen this album on quite a few of the "greatest emo albums" list, and i'm sure weezer didn't intend on making it an emo album, it just came out that way.

Pinkerton IS an emo album. This was one of the first emo albums. Everyone who claims this isn't an emo album is just taking today's "emo" and saying "WEEZER ISNT LIKE HAWTHORNE HEIGHTS." No. But Pinkerton IS emo, this is true emotion in these songs, it's beautiful, not whiny like modern day SHIT.

@dradfromthebu Real emo was the branch of hardcore in the mid-1980s that started in the Washington DC scene with bands like Rites of Spring, Pinkerton is nowhere near that sonic level. What makes your argument ironic is that Pinkerton was in the exact same position of having emo misapplied to it as Hawthorne Heights have today. Emo does not stand for emotional, all music is emotional no matter how shitty you may think it sounds.

Emo is a specific genre of music, you can't just go around labelling all music that shows emotion as emo, then everything would be emo because all music expresses emotion.
