I compared Devo's version versus Sepultura and...Devo for the win! Rage metal sucks the life out of this song. Screaming lyrics does nothing to enhance the song at all. All of you die hard metal heads had better eat 50 habaneroes and scream on the toilet at 3am instead of trying to translate this Devo track.
@drogoscg1 If this was exact cover of the Devo version there would be no point in doing it at all. Sepultura put their spin on it and that`s all i look for in a cover.
I found this due to my love for DEVO but I like many genres and a good song is a good song provided you don't have narrow interests in music. This version kicks ass as an example of a metal song. A song or cover doesn't automatically "suck" because you don't like a certain type of music.
@Lalo3001 Oh lighten up. While I agree that this doesn't even hold a candle to the Devo version you have to consider the respectful implications of the cover song. Sepultrura is a well established and respected band in their genre and covering a song (especially on an album) is one of the biggest signs of respect one musician can show another.
what i like about cover songs like this is that it shows that Sepultura listens to Devo, and i'm sure a whole lot more. hell, some metal guitarist listen to classical music. why? because true musicians love music and realize that complexity and detail exist in any form.
@Alphabex8 '...because true musicians love music and realize that complexity and detail exist in any form'
Yeah, thats exactly what it is like... i'm listenig music since 16 years now.. first it was only german hip hop then i went to 'dancehall' music D&B metall EBM later classic and even goa and minimal elektro.. now as i am 30 years old i discover doo wop... true music comes from the heart .. who ever is a feeling beeing will understand all kinds of good music ... just dance <3
@Alphabex8 Amen to that...I never understand people who listen to only one genre like true fucking soldiers...They are missing a lot of good shit going on.
My god, people forget Devo was from the early 70s, they were PUNK, compare them to david cassidy or the other rot that infested the radio.
And to answer mpfw, the Grateful Dead are one of the best bands ever, they actually play, their albums are played in the same way they did in concert, one time thru, no back up tracks, same settings on the equip they use in concert. Also, they were on tour about 1/2 the year, every year. It's too bad you didn't get to see them and appreciate them,
¿Did anyone watch the movie "Ex Drummer"? A band of handicapped punks make a cover of this song... I didn't know Sepultura had it, but it's pretty awesome.

What's more, lyrically, they were satirically attacking the conservative politics of the 80s. Devo has long been associated with the punk movement.

@browncoat697 i agree, but i also think part of their philosophy was to make fun of things like putting music into neat little categories... mostly so they can be marketed. Let's do ourselves a favor by stopping that ugly trend.
@browncoat697 not all metalcore is bad there are a few good bands but sadly none of them are mainstream (with and exceptions for bullet for my valentine and a day to remember they're tolerable). look up shai hulud's this wake myself hath stirred it's a pretty badass song
@GlorifiedTruth The year is 2010..."punk" rock was in full swing in 1977...therefore you are a glorified turd. Punk is 33 years old...dumbass! If you want to delve even further back. MC5 and the Stooges were around in 1968...and I count them as being the forerunners of the "punk" genre.

@browncoat697 i agree, but i also think part of their philosophy was to make fun of things like putting music into neat little categories... mostly so they can be marketed. Let's do ourselves a favor by stopping that ugly trend.

@theonlytruepunk - Punk is 25 years old. You're being kind of reactionary.
