  • Cool

  • aah i hear the chameleon lines sometime! and shake everything thatyougot ^_^

  • Did I hear some Weather Reports /Jaco riffs in there?

  • Very nice. Did I hear some super Mario effects? Lol

  • I like your right-hand technique. Using thumb and index finger? Seems like a rather impractical technique, in terms of muting the other strings and getting good speed. But who am I to say what you should do? If it feels good for you, STICK WITH IT! You'll never be able to play any instrument well if you can't feel comfortable with it.

  • so nice instrument

  • Rudimentally (that's not a word), this is a great groove. Theoretically, it has no form.

  • Which scale are you using, bro? If any.

  • what the hell are you guys complaining about his techniques? this man plays the bass for over more then 30 years. and that also shows he is not a young boy like most of you shrimps around here, show some respect for this man!

  • AGAIN!!

  • @HammondB200 Please don't take it too seriously ! Have fun :-)

  • @HammondB200 How can you say he doesn't play good!? He's the best!!

  • @HammondB200 Oh my, playing should be fun instead of thinking about intonation and such... Even Jaco Pastorius did that thing; playing like virtuoso and still having fun...

  • @HammondB200 Last time I checked a repeating riff could qualify as a 'groove.' Let's think about it for a moment. The bassline from I Wish by Stevie Wonder is an eight note riff repeated for most of the song. So does that song not 'groove' by your definition? Also, intonation has mostly to do with the setup of the bass. Seeing how he is playing a Lakland, it is safe to assume his intonation is fine. It is also safe to assume that you are clueless. Please never post again.

  • @HammondB200

    lets see you do better!

  • @HammondB200 How on earth do you intonate on a fretted bass??

  • @Jaldegren My thoughts exactly. The groove was sweet!

  • what strings would you recomend for funk?

  • Are you using your thumb and ringer finger? Can't really tell.

  • WOW, you're such a professional... great fingering, loved it.

  • suggestion...... u should make a video explaining how to play this :]

  • 2007 was a good year !!!

  • would u happen to have some sort of tab sheet cause this is sick if not dont worry about it.

  • great stuff here, such a nice smooth fingering you have going, very nice bass too

  • Well played groove.

  • What's the difference between lakland 44-01 and 02?

  • @MrNorbi14 Go to the Lakland website to check out the difference between lakland 44-01 and 02 yourself. lakland.com

  • wicked bro, great jam. Love your bass looks hella sexy.

  • @Heffsta02 Yeah I like my Lakie lady a lot :-)

  • I am sorry but this is one funky-less, groovy-less bassline to me.

  • can you hook a brother up with tabs?

  • I know I heard some Nintendo Mario Bros in there :)

  • Stupid envious freak!

  • A GUITAR PRO TAB WOULD BE AWESOME! PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!!

  • u got the kill on a great sounding bass. u would help urself by not allowing the third finger to sometimes do the fretting for the fourth finger. keep up the good work!

  • u got the kill on a great sounding bass. u would help urself by not allowing the third finger to do the fretting for the fourth finger. keep up the good work!

  • Evrybody on youtube who plays base needs to know how to turn the volume on their base up, like 100 more knotches

  • It sucks!

  • @skhrichenko You suck

  • Finger that bass like you mean it, damn it!

  • ахуенчик =)

  • Very great! I liked it!

  • Lakland ftw! Great groove also :).

  • I favorite'd this about 2 years ago, and this beat gets stuck in my head about every day. Freakin' awesome.

  • Wow!!!.....Smooth as glass love it!

  • Warning funk-free content! It's not really finger-funk at all. I's all hammering and pulls. Get your first and second right hand fingers moving and get the groove going.

  • @visog

stick to grooming your pussy you prick !! ;)

  • what's on the ceiling?

  • @SnubCluster a light spot

  • @infusion26 What bass is that, Läkland?

  • @Jespertheshort1 yes thats true this is indeed a Lakland 44-02 bass.

  • @SnubCluster it's a ADD.

  • probably easier/less strenuous to alternate fingers

  • Tabs?

  • are you in standard tuning?

  • nice, but i would suggest to work on the right hand position and on the groove itself.

    However, very nice work!

    sounds a bit Primus :)

  • grooveless :(

  • @mano90tgs yo fuck you bro. that shit was groovier than youll ever be. faggot.

  • Just sounds like some noodle-wanking notes. Don't get me wrong, they're played fabulously. Excellent sound and technical skill but man.... I'm not hearing any groove.

  • C'mon dude, you could play something a lot harder, and faster than this! XD PS.) you're still very good.

  • interesting fingering style. (that's what she said)

  • Nice work man! My father bought a 5 string lakland 6 years ago for $350 at a pawn shop. It was worth about $1400.

  • It's got a little Mars in it too...

  • this is awesome! I'm thinking of using it as a backing track and soloing over it. Maybe making a video of that? would you mind?

  • complete diffrent tuning :P (dropped b)

  • nice<Claypool like

  • good job

  • Nice one man..notice you use Elixir strings..would you care to share what gauge? i know they last a long time. Also do you have to change for different styles., or does the lakeland make up the difference in adjustments? just curious ..thanks .

  • I use Elixir Nanoweb Bass strings Gauges: 45-65-80-105

  • @infusion26

    nice groove, brotha.

Yeah, elixrs are smooth as velvet.

    So nice.

    I usually grab the superlights.

  • @infusion26 I got some Elixir strings too, but mine got fuckd up after a few days, the "nanoweb coating" just got torn apart ^^

now i got some weird shit hangning out of my strings :P

  • groovy

  • was tiring and boring! but the sound of the bass is good.

  • good sound... though i wasn't really feeling the 'melody'... i agree with auntmaple that the groove and an harmonically centered line started to really click at that point.

  • you've got great funk man! but i think that if you used a bit more your finger tips and really slide all the tip you can get a much richer, jaco style sound.. Also, reposition your bass height, your hand is all bent! you can really get injured in the future with that hand-angling. Cheers! Funk it up

  • Great ideas! The bass groove that you started at 1:06 could have been a groove all by it's self. Sounds like you could develope several songs out of this one solo. Sounds great!

  • Thanks :-)

  • nice how long u been playin

  • @dimoschka are you a fucking retard? playin bass or guitar that low will do your back some serious damage and could even leave you with permenant back damage, playing high up (prog height) is recommended by all the top players you must be one dumb cunt

  • @piledriver89 why u cussing so much dude? i dont have any back damage or anything and i play the bass that way.

u are the one who looks like a fucking retard cussing like that. cant u try and talk like a normal person?

  • im just sayin keep your tits on bitch and if you asked alot of experinced players they will tell you that its better to play higher for a start you can fret notes alot better and 2 you can get to the higher nots you spack

  • nice groove, maybe some bends could spice it up a little!

  • sweet stuff

  • You need to strike your notes harder.

  • Very nice. You make it look too easy.

  • This jam is quite fresh.

  • Ou ta faltando expresao ai cara ve se melhora!!!

  • gnarley shit dude

  • My god I love the Lakland basses. I have a 44-02 Deluxe, it is simply the best thing I ever bought.

  • Completely agreed :D Love that thang!

  • u make me wanna trade my guitar in for a bass....hmmmm..... lol im keepin mah holy grail but im gonna buy a bass and get lessons for funky funk funk bass mofo!!!!

    thanks for inspiring me dude

  • great jam

but your playing with your right hand i an akward position.

  • I just a Lakland 5 string fretless a couple of days ago. Great bass and I'm stoked. Been out of playing for a while but it's fun to play again.

  • Nice.

  • omfg, that bass is so fucking good..

i want a lakland too, but im not rich, i only can afford an ibanez btb305 ..and thats all if i want a lakland i will have to wait like.. 10 years..

  • get a musicman bongo :P

  • how do you get such a clean sound?

all the variations on my amp sound really punk, when i dont want it to be...

  • Maybe you should buy a Lakland bass......LOL

  • @infusion26 Does yours have bartolinis? i really freakin love them on mine! What type of strings do you use? I just got a pair of sunbeams i think i'll put on soon...

  • probably your amp and technique

  • @FlaKey651

Invest in a good amp. Never settle for second best.

  • @WoWintosh My amp is actually really good, its crate, i have had it for a couple of years and it's doing well but it never has had a perfect clean sound.

  • @FlaKey651 I need a new amp!

    What do I get

I dont want to spend too too much monaw (less that 500, if I could id pay like 300 for an amp at least 200 watts)

  • cool stuff lots of talent

  • Very nice!

  • Nice slide at the end

  • nice bass!

  • VEry nice!!

  • turn up the volume on the bass

  • nice drum box. Guess you played bass on it too ?!?

  • Hey Sir, very nice.

Where did you get those drum boxs?

  • cool

  • So... you dig on Paul Jackson, right?

  • Zabadas mnogo mamu ti jebem glupu!!!!!!

  • Nice phrasing!!

  • Noss, a coisa mais idiota que li no youtube foi esse comentario do André. Ow "funckeiro" se informa e reformula essa besteira que tu escreveu kara!!! Noss que vergonha esse comentário. Sem comentário!

    very funny. ^^

  • I noticed you are double picking with one finger with occasional use of the thumb. Unusual. Geddy Lee says he uses that technique when he wants to sound "Funky".

  • One difference- Geddy uses his middle finger as his main finger. I play kinda like that, but im nowhere near Geddy Lee's standards.

  • yea...i use my middle finger mainly also

  • what kinda pick ups are ya using there?

  • You are one bad dude! That some mean soundin shit!!

  • Muito Legal! (Very nice)

  • Thanks man ! :-)

  • How is your Lakeland holding up? I'm thinking about jumping on one here pretty soon as a back up. Any thoughts on it? Problems? etc... thanx and nice vid, 5 stars

  • stiff man. move.

  • tighttttttttttt

  • NICE! you're excellent, I wish I had those tabs, I'll try to learn by watching.

PS- how much did that bass guitar cost?

  • Very nice playing but it didn't sound like a groove to me. More like the bass line to a song broken into parts and without the rest of the song.

  • define groove...

  • I don't think I really can, lol. I could show you though ;p

  • great, post a video

  • groove make you want to dance. this 'bassline' does not.

  • this does...maybe even more with some modifications, but this is pretty awesome. I think I understand what you mean though- A "groove" is more continuous and rhythmic

  • are you sure.... anyway i think the player of this carried the song well the only criticism i have is turn up the bass a bit more

  • i agree with you ,but it stil sounds good ;)

  • beautiful piece . nice playing and nice bass ;

  • I bought my skyline in 02 when they were really good quality. The ones nowdays are so chaeply made and the quality is so low!!! Im so glad i got mine before they stopped giving a shit!

  • sky line made in korea...maby..

  • Where are the skyline-series basses made? Also in the USA?

  • They used to be made in South Korea.

But since late 2007, they have been made in Indonesia.

  • Lakland has two lines of basses: The "Skyline" series, which is manufactured in Korea, and the U.S. series, which is handcrafted at the factory in Chicago. Though made overseas, each Skyline bass undergoes extensive refinements at the Lakland factory, which includes meticulous inspection of every aspect of the bass and the installation of electronics.

  • Since you live in the Netherlands aren't both made "overseas" from your perspective? :-) Personally I think Asian made basses are as good as any despite their lower price.

  • Because even the highest note you can play on the bass has a different timbre than that of a normal guitar.

  • that was a very noob comment

  • ive got the entire collection from 4 to 12 string

but im waiting for the harp guitar to come to singapore 1st

  • it's people like you that are holding the bass back...

  • why do you say that?

  • direct quote from my bass teacher when i asked him finger or pick, "picks are for pussies"

  • exactly your bass teacher is a wise man.

  • i got a question i started playing bass abput a month ago should i use pick or finger?

  • get your fingers strong, then move to a pick.

  • i think fingers, i use fingers

  • fingers. there are so many more things you can do with your fingers, and you connect more with the instrument than with the pick.

  • Whichever is most comfortable for you bro. Each style has its own pros and cons but nothing is stopping you from enjoying all of them. Most bassists use a pick at least some of the time whether they like to admit it or not though so just ignore the nay sayers

  • thanks man

  • A pick makes a cleaner sound, but people will think you're a wuss

  • If you play rock, metal, or punk. you might consider a pick, but for pretty much every style where the bass gets to do anything cool or musical, fingers are the only way. I was actually having a conversation with a fellow bassist I respect, who uses a pick, and he admitted that he couldn't think of a famous bassist or widely respected bassist who uses only a pick outside of metal or punk. A pick is pretty much like a condom... it feels way better without it
