Irrespective of their motive, I fail to see the justification for the lorry driver's apparent behaviour. They appear to be racing, and using their vehicle to intimidate and endanger other road users. What would have happened if a child had 'chanced it' and ran across that road? Look at the conditions.. the place is full of potential hazards. Not saying all lorry drivers are bad or that all cyclists are saints. Surprised if IKEA really weren't eager to resolve this.
The lorry driving is appalling maybe he sounded his horn to make you aware of his intentions to overtake you The sounding of the horn seems to irritate you so had your previous riding done something to irritate the driver. You then went on to cycle in a dangerous manner which could have resulted in an accident and most likely you would have come off worse. If a motorist driving upsets you you should not go on to ride in manner putting other road users and yourself at risk as your video shows.
seriously dude get a grip, i wish that he nipped you a little more between the island and the truck, seriously no win situation for you, 44000kgs against 15kgs (play with feathers, you get your arse tickled) find something more interesting to do with your life, than criticising truck drivers, who in actual fact delivered all the parts for your shit bike.
you are riding on the right hand side of a vehicle on a single carriageway in the path of oncoming traffic, the HGV was being a bellend but rise above it instead of riding dangerously. I'm certain he would have pulled over if he wanted a chat.
i think this video shows that cyclists need to sit tests. Another prime example of idiot cyclists. He probably sounded his horn to let you know he was there as you were swerving all over the cycle path as he was worried you might pull out in front of him. So instead of getting on your high horse and think about the fact that cars and especially trucks cannot stop or manouver as quickly as bikes.
I am an HGV driver and I would be sacked for that kind of behaviour as he should have been, not all HGV drivers are as unproffessional as this just like not all cyclist's, on the plus side now.....my company are having wide angled forward facing cameras fitted to their fleet !
i got assaulted by a ikea lorry driver after he decided to come out at a junction in chelsea and thought i was being oujt of order so i told him he was a prick and ne took a couple of swings then i hit him with my lock loads of witnesses before you ask asking him why he was taking swings when he nearly killed me
So you are on a bike that weighs maybe 15kgs and you are an active part in a road rage incident with a lorry weighing up to 44 tons? You are probably worse than them. Maybe you need reporting.
I ride a push bike but don't go out my way to antagonise other road users. He may have been 'pipping' you to warn that he was approaching. After watching quite a few videos uploaded by cyclists with a 'it wasn't me, they started it' attitude', you begin to see that it's actually the cyclists with a huge chip on their shoulder looking for troube. Perhaps we need to observe a correlation between self-righteous 'holier-than-thou' characters and push bikes? Glad you're alive and well.
I am a retired lorry driver and this driver gives drivers a bad name . he was obiously anoyed he's had to slow as you pulled out to pass the parked cars but there is no excuse in the world for using the truck to intimidate you on your bike please please please do all lorry drivers a favour and send the video to the IKEA main office this driver must be removed or a least retrained .we are not all that way .
i wonder what you did before you started filming?as no sane person would just do that for nothing, this aint the only vid you have is it so seeing as you seem to get in soo much shit on the road suggests to me that you go out of your way to get a reaction from motorists and then use thier reaction back to you to against them,i hope you soon film a big hairy trucker climbing out of his cab and sloshing you one strait on the conk, that would be worth a watch.
It sounded like a quick toot to make sure you were aware of his presence. Was it necessary? No, you probably already heard his big ass coming a mile away, but being that he was pulling two trailers, that's even more force pulling you towards him, and he may have just wanted you to prepare for that.
Usually when people are trying to be dicks, they don't use care to toot quickly. They'll just lay into the thing and wake up sleeping baby Jesus.
@mustang260 If you watched the video properly, the lorry SLOWED down to a slow stop when there is NOTHING in the front. As the cyclist overtook the lorry, it sped up but keeps blocking the cyclist. The lorry driver is doing it on purpose.
If cyclists were issued with licences you would have failed the test. He may be in the wrong (I suspect you did something stupid before the video starts that caused a problem) but even if he is are you really so stupid that taking on a truck that size with a bicycle seems logical?
Personally I'd say both at fault, you for overtaking and passing between traffic island and trailer (18 inches gap?) as he was trying to get back up to speed, and him for not allowing you to pass safely.
However if you had collided it would have only gone one way so the onus is on you to show more common sense. I know that road in croydon and their is a lot of hgv traffic, if its your regular route I think you need to have a little think about how you ride around trucks in future
all i can say as a hgv driver cyclists think they own the road why does he need a licence revoke ? he hasnt broken no laws funny thing is how you block people cause your a fucktard
As a truck driver I'd have citizens arrested You for being a danger to yourself!!!
Remember, these drivers have a superior licence and a rather larger vehicle, You have NO licence or insurance, don't pay road tax and have very little right of way, Especially when you are already in a lane of your own and since when do you have the right to take up all the room on a roundabout too.., self righteous fool.

You overtook something with an engine and then did not have the power to get yourself out of the position you put yourself... The HGV driver was an arse for doing it, but you put yourself in that position by going up the outside with no power...
Okay.. yes maybe he was sounding his horn to let you know he was passing and that his lorry was a bit longer than normal. But speeding up as you're passing? That was him being an arse. Good on you for reporting him!
typical paranoyd cyclist thinking everyone is out to get them not the fact that they endanger themselves and otheres as demonstrated in this video by riding down the centre of the road then sqeezing between lorry and pedestrian bollard i bet you jump red lights and cycle between pedestrians as they are crossing too just relax dont be in such a rush and stop being paranoyd and reading too much into situations then you can lead a long and stress free life instead of sqashed or road rage victim
@adamc1970 The lorry overtakes me but then i overtake the lorry. how is that possible? Only because he slowed down. Is there anything in front of him? No, there isn't So he slowed down deliberately to piss me off and then, when i begin overtaking him again he speeds up to endanger me. I would say I'd be interested to hear your reply but you're now blocked. Goodbye.
@JameyCam he prob just beeped to let you know he was there man. dont waste your time with youtube reports, call VOSA if you got probs...freephone 08000304103.
why try to race a truck all you have to do it let him go but no all he was doing is letting you know he was there takes a lot to stop that truck and not a lot to kill YOU have a bit of common sense
@4963andy rider DIDNT speed up truck over took him then slowed down :/ road ahead of truck was clear so he was doing it to be an arse.......i know a few truck drivers like this thats do it as they find it funny . . the ride has common sense its the truck driver thats at fault here . if you dont belive me watch the video again and pay attention to the trucks lights and the road ahead
I am an HGV driver, I watched this and its just frightening. my company would sack me in an instant if I drove like this. did you do/say anything to this guy before the video started? or is he just a totall bell end?
@mrspivvy Yes, I reported it to Ikea who in turn reported it to the sub-contracted logistics company that deal with their vehicles. They weaselled out of any kind of proper apology but as far as I'm concerned it's mission accomplished - they now know that people are filming out there and in 2011 you can't get away with this sort of thing as even if you don't get prosecuted it goes up on YouTube for the world to see.
Gotta say, Jamey, as a fellow cyclist with very little tolerance of bad driving, that looks like six of one and half a dozen of the other. He was almost certainly doing a good thing by warning you with the hoot. Then looks like he got bolshy at you overtaking him and started driving very very dangerously. But that overtake against the traffic - that was seriously risky dude!
This is another example of why cyclists should have compulsory training. So many have no idea what they are doing. This driver deliberately gave a short beep so as not to confuse it with an aggressive use of horn and you start acting up and trying to overtake/ compete with him. He was making sure you knew he was there. It's hilarious that you take his registration & upload it in complete ignorance of the highway code.
@robbieflub There's nothing in the Highway Code about beeping to let cyclists know you're about to overtake... Know why? Because when overtaking it's 100% up to the vehicle behind to ensure they perform a safe manoeuvre and if anything goes wrong the vehicle that was overtaking is 100% to blame... But let's humour you and pretend that you're not completely wrong for a second, the point of this video is the deliberate slowdown after he overtakes. Pointless and agressive. There was nothing in fron
@JameyCam Thanks for humouring me it was much appreciated. So you've never heard of using horn to warn other users of your presence ? let's pretend your not proving my point about you being clueless for a second, tell me which part of the highway code says it's safe to ride down the opposite side of the road, competitively, in anger, remonstrating with an HGV on a bicycle ? In answer to your question, he was probably looking in his mirrors wondering what the halfwit on the bike was doing !
@robbieflub2 Of course I've heard of using the horn to "warn people" but that doesn't change the law... You can't stand up in court and say you're not to blame because you warned them you were about to do something stupid. That's like me warning you I'm about to leave you pissing blood and then telling the judge it's not GBH because I issued a warning. The highway code (that you referred to) is quite clear that it's the responsibility of the person behind, not the person in front.
@robbieflub2 Oh, and far from looking in his mirrors wondering anything, he decided to step on the gas and race me (listen, you can hear it, he could quite easily have let me back over if he was being calm and rational)... And then I won. Quelle fucking surprise. The real shame here is that he got everyone at the depot to come on YouTube and post inane shit.
@JameyCam highway code states the horn is an audible warning device to let others know of your presence, thats all he was doing being a professional driver.
terrible riding that. I would never have attempted to overtake that lorry. You'll end up getting killed doing manouvres like that. FFS its towing a trailor. Like arguing with a cruise liner....only one winner. Imagine if something large had been oncoming like a bus eeeew it would have been a mess. This is aggressive riding at its finest.
I see it more like a friendly toot to me! kinda "watch out i'm big, heavy, have poor visbility and am coming through!"
Common sense says I would'nt have tried to zip past on the right when it's semi-dark and the road is narrow
- although when i'm on the road, the adrenalin is flowing, and i've already been cut up 2 or 3 times.... different story possibly, i find myself shouting at drivers that don't really deserve it :)
you clearly have nothing better to do than record video footage of normal road driving then complain about it on youtube. try being an HGV driver for a day, it is a shitty job to do in urban areas and very stressful. do this for a day then you'll realise why militant cyclists like you are treated with such contempt. Either that or sell your pushbike, buy a car and contribute some tax into the maintenance of roads and cycle lanes which are subsided by everyone else that pays road tax. cretin.
@JameyCam Rofl at C), if u think that you are a fantastic driver cause u didn't have accident for 10 years then u are clearly way to self-confident and that is common reason that drivers have accidents.
@capitalistbotherer To be honest I wouldn't call that "normal road driving". As a bus driver, I do realise that driving large vehicles in urban areas can be stressful but then it's as stressful as you make it. If you can't handle it, give it it up.
@capitalistbotherer my god, just face it the hgv driver was an idiot, if this was in court the driver would be charged with reckless driving, with other matters not just counting the fact the driver was indeed "raceing" him and then slowed down as soon as he came to the green lights, this is then endangering other road users lives. & and before you start calling people a creting and using the dreary old "cyslists should be road tax" you need to gather some facts considering ROAD TAX doesnt exist
@capitalistbotherer cyclists dont go on the cycle lanes funded by you because they say they are full of rubbish that pops their tyres. What a country we live in!
I think he was waiting and then horned you because he had an unusually large lorry and didn't want you to turn after having seen just the front of the lorry and assume it may be half it's actual length. Responsible driving.
It looked like you (the cyclist) was the one looking for confrontation here. The driver didn't sound his horn aggressively, it was just a polite warning for your benefit. The way you immediately overtook him (knowing he'd soon get up to speed) was very childish of you.
You say his licence should be revoked yet you are the irritating group of cyclists that dont need a licence to cause carnage and the blame falls with us....the licenced, INSURED, road taxed individuals calles drivers. Dont you cyclists not realise the frustration you cause doing less than 20mph, holding up a line of traffic, not pulling over to let traffic pass then have the cheek to come on here blaming everyone but yourselves!
@drsquirrel0 if you have a private number plate ie something like B10 ERF for example (its not taken) then you do acctually have full right to sue because the number plate is personal to the person not vehicle.
@VolvoFH12580 No it isn't number plates are always registered to a car, when you sell the car the plate stays on unless you re-register the car with another plate - at this point the plate cannot be used on a car until it is registered on that car.
So when it is "to a person", it shouldn't be on a car.
There is no such thing as a private number plate, only a personalised one. Even then when you buy a new car sometimes the showroom will give you a choice of their group of avaliable plates.
@drsquirrel0 diplomatic plates are classified as private plates and belong to embassys of forign countries and are therefore classed as private, i get what your saying but what im getting at is if you publish a number plate you can still have legal action taken against you especialy if its in a derogatory manner and the one most famous company for doing such EDDIE STOBART LTD
@VolvoFH12580 Diplomatic are not your so called private (personalised) plates, im not sure how those are treated but I know in a public place you can film anything, so it will still be okay.
As for derogatory, that would only be if there is no reason for it - so if a lorry did something wrong, they have no case.
A little tip for you, Next time an articulated truck cuts you up or slows down to intimidate you, wait until you catch him up at a junction or T lights get up his nearside trailer, near the landing legs you will find two buttons,if you pull out the red one this will activate the trailer brakes and he will not be going anywhere until he gets out and resets it!!!! as you are on two wheels you can have it away on your wheels!
That was a bit of unreasonable driving there! i,m a truck driver and i cylce in my spare time, personally i would have pulled open his door when he stopped as all truckers do not lock them and then given him a right bollocking, most truck drivers would not dare to get out their cabs as most only feel tough when behind the wheel very few will actually retaliate and if they did then you call for the rozzers!
Didn't sound like an angry beep to me, more an I'm here kinda thing, I'm a lorry driver and if you'd pissed me off you would have got a lot more than just a little toot. Still, why did he slow down after, map reading or just a cock ?
im a trucker. if i saw that driver doing that i would kick his head in. i also ride motorbikes (i know ur a cyclist) but still i would have hammered him
im a trucker. if i saw that driver doing that i would kick his head in. i also ride motorbikes (i know ur a cyclist) but still i would have hammered him
im a trucker. if i saw that driver doing that i would kick his head in. i also ride motorbikes (i know ur a cyclist) but still i would have hammered him
you are a sad little man and need to get a life. If you could manage to pull your aids ridden lefty liberal tree huggin body into a truck and drive it for a day you'd see how hard our job is. MUPPET
I'd really recommend looking over you shoulder before pulling out for parked cars...and I wouldn't cycle in that cycle lane by the cars - what if one opened their door? Driver was obviously a bit of a knob for stopping and then starting before you could get safely in front.
You could probably have followed him to the store from there ;-)
I don't buy the "he was warning you of his presence" reason for using the horn, it's a possibility but given his other "driving" he does look to be trying to intimidate you.
That quick toot of the horn may have been simply him telling you he was about to pass, quite thoughtful of him if that was the case.
And there might have been many reasons for him to slow down that have nothing to do with you at all... from mechanical failiure to a stray dog in the road.
Don't be too quick to assume the worst of others, it will just make you into a bitter person.
... on the other hand, maybe he was being a dick... we'll never know
Had a bike wraped my trailer axle when got back to depot last month 150miles from london,, all i remember was seing somebody bk in london on pavement waving towards me and he had a cycle helmet on.....biker should use they brain bit more''' commmon sennce....
get a life you sad man, have you got nothing better to do, if it wasn;t for trucks you wouldn't even be riding a bike becuase there would not be any in the shops to buy.
Regardless of his driving, you really should think twice about riding up his side and in his blind spot. I don't see it was worth risking your life because of a 1 second beep. You might have him on camera, but you'd still be dead.
I personally think you should have just dropped right back once he started accelerating off again, that's what I would have done.
highway code states: the horn is an audible warning devide to alert other road users of your presence he sounded his horn probably because he thought you may not have seen or heard him at the end of the day he covered himself and you noticed it he was more than a fair distance from you, he wasnt asking for a fight just letting you know he's there. HGV class 1 driver
@VolvoFH12580 Okay, maybe so with the horn, because it is obvious that JameyCam is swerving from one side of the road to the other to warrant the horn, then why drive past and then apply the brakes and wait for JameyCam to catch-up and then try to speed off [and let us remember this is the safe rule-following driver we are talking about], then under-take at that squeeze-point?
@leapoffaith20 he may have miss judged something like the vehicle in front or someone pulling out infront walking out infront but thats a guess because obviously we cant see what he is seeing, the other end of the line is he was just doing it to be a prick.
Hmmm. You're making a lot of assumptions that there was malicious intent. A horn can be a warning signal. So maybe he just wanted to make sure you were aware of the double trailers he was pulling. He could also have slowed down to negotiate the traffic islands safely. From your point of view you couldn't see the road ahead so there could be any number of reasons why he'd have to slow down which you wouldn't have known about. Just sayin...
@Kurako76 That's possible and a charitable interpretation of the driver's behaviour. However, the beep was less than 1sec before the cab overtook - it would have been better to warn the cyclist earlier, not when it was only a few metres behind (a beep can be quite off-putting at that distance). What's more, it would have made more sense for the HGV to have slowed down and negotiated the pinch points behind the cyclist. Finally, when Jamey was ahead of the HGV(trying to overtake), it accelerated
@Kurako76 I can - possibly - agree about the horn. That might have been a warning.
But I can't see the traffic island being an explanation for the slowing down. He's already through it, and clear by about 20 metres, and has basically parked. Then he floors it when Jamey is level with his cab. Not buying that.
@WheelyGoodFun absolutely - that was deliberate obstruction, and deliberate use of his vehicle as a weapon to intimidate. It just goes to show the kind of reaction you get from morons when you put yourself at risk by cycling in the dooring zone just to let them past. I wouldn't bother next time - ride where it's safe, and let him wait. It can't have mattered that much, as he'd have still got to the roundabout at the same time. Sad that he was too thick to realise that.
Forget reporting to IKEA, report the bastard to the police! Why did he slow down, it's just plain nasty. This guy is using a huge lorry as a toy to annoy somebody! Potential murderer if you ask me.
I agree with the others, absolutely no reason for the beep. It is his obligation to make sure that he overtakes safely not for you to move out of his way. Braking like this is done to intimidate and sometimes to harm. Chances are if a cyclist goes into the rear of a trailer like that it wont show up too well compared to a car... makes you wonder if he's done that before?
I bet it's You swung out in front of him!' - He failed to read the road and see those parked cars more like. As we know, drivers can be quite short sighted when it comes to overtaking cyclist. Maybe the driver was trying to hold you up like you held him up. Yeah, what gaz said, strange behaviour.
That was completely out of order. So many things wrong with his behaviour, but probably the worst is his acceleration as you are just coming past his cab. Probably not the wisest choice to overtake him, as you say, but at that point he is essentially parked, and to floor it like that when you are coming past him is clearly the action of a mentalist. It's gone beyond silly buggers at that point, and towards endangerment. Reminds me of Duel.
Letter to IKEA - let's hope his job is taken away.
That road does not look good to ride along (cycle lane in the door zone, pinch points etc). I'd contact roadsafe and the public relations dept at Ikea as they pride themselves on their social responsibility and the confrontational and intimidatory behavior by one of their driver's towards a vulnerable road-user is not doing them any favours.

Good on you for reporting him!

typical paranoyd cyclist thinking everyone is out to get them not the fact that they endanger themselves and otheres as demonstrated in this video by riding down the centre of the road then sqeezing between lorry and pedestrian bollard i bet you jump red lights and cycle between pedestrians as they are crossing too just relax dont be in such a rush and stop being paranoyd and reading too much into situations then you can lead a long and stress free life instead of sqashed or road rage victim
adamc1970 7 months ago 7
@adamc1970 The lorry overtakes me but then i overtake the lorry. how is that possible? Only because he slowed down. Is there anything in front of him? No, there isn't So he slowed down deliberately to piss me off and then, when i begin overtaking him again he speeds up to endanger me. I would say I'd be interested to hear your reply but you're now blocked. Goodbye.

I am an HGV driver, I watched this and its just frightening. my company would sack me in an instant if I drove like this. did you do/say anything to this guy before the video started? or is he just a totall bell end?
mrspivvy 7 months ago 10
@mrspivvy Yes, I reported it to Ikea who in turn reported it to the sub-contracted logistics company that deal with their vehicles. They weaselled out of any kind of proper apology but as far as I'm concerned it's mission accomplished - they now know that people are filming out there and in 2011 you can't get away with this sort of thing as even if you don't get prosecuted it goes up on YouTube for the world to see.
JameyCam 7 months ago
@mrspivvy I agree, seems like the IKEA driver needs a slap.
MrSilverfox333 4 months ago
Gotta say, Jamey, as a fellow cyclist with very little tolerance of bad driving, that looks like six of one and half a dozen of the other. He was almost certainly doing a good thing by warning you with the hoot. Then looks like he got bolshy at you overtaking him and started driving very very dangerously. But that overtake against the traffic - that was seriously risky dude!
longjon120 7 months ago 2
This is another example of why cyclists should have compulsory training. So many have no idea what they are doing. This driver deliberately gave a short beep so as not to confuse it with an aggressive use of horn and you start acting up and trying to overtake/ compete with him. He was making sure you knew he was there. It's hilarious that you take his registration & upload it in complete ignorance of the highway code.
robbieflub 8 months ago
@robbieflub There's nothing in the Highway Code about beeping to let cyclists know you're about to overtake... Know why? Because when overtaking it's 100% up to the vehicle behind to ensure they perform a safe manoeuvre and if anything goes wrong the vehicle that was overtaking is 100% to blame... But let's humour you and pretend that you're not completely wrong for a second, the point of this video is the deliberate slowdown after he overtakes. Pointless and agressive. There was nothing in fron
JameyCam 8 months ago
@JameyCam Thanks for humouring me it was much appreciated. So you've never heard of using horn to warn other users of your presence ? let's pretend your not proving my point about you being clueless for a second, tell me which part of the highway code says it's safe to ride down the opposite side of the road, competitively, in anger, remonstrating with an HGV on a bicycle ? In answer to your question, he was probably looking in his mirrors wondering what the halfwit on the bike was doing !
robbieflub2 7 months ago
@robbieflub2 Of course I've heard of using the horn to "warn people" but that doesn't change the law... You can't stand up in court and say you're not to blame because you warned them you were about to do something stupid. That's like me warning you I'm about to leave you pissing blood and then telling the judge it's not GBH because I issued a warning. The highway code (that you referred to) is quite clear that it's the responsibility of the person behind, not the person in front.
JameyCam 7 months ago
@robbieflub2 Oh, and far from looking in his mirrors wondering anything, he decided to step on the gas and race me (listen, you can hear it, he could quite easily have let me back over if he was being calm and rational)... And then I won. Quelle fucking surprise. The real shame here is that he got everyone at the depot to come on YouTube and post inane shit.
JameyCam 7 months ago
@JameyCam highway code states the horn is an audible warning device to let others know of your presence, thats all he was doing being a professional driver.
TridentTrucking 7 months ago
terrible riding that.

AsRocker1991 3 months ago
@capitalistbotherer To be honest I wouldn't call that "normal road driving". As a bus driver, I do realise that driving large vehicles in urban areas can be stressful but then it's as stressful as you make it. If you can't handle it, give it it up.
gadders59 8 months ago
@capitalistbotherer my god, just face it the hgv driver was an idiot, if this was in court the driver would be charged with reckless driving, with other matters not just counting the fact the driver was indeed "raceing" him and then slowed down as soon as he came to the green lights, this is then endangering other road users lives. & and before you start calling people a creting and using the dreary old "cyslists should be road tax" you need to gather some facts considering ROAD TAX doesnt exist

bitgood 10 months ago
It looked like you (the cyclist) was the one looking for confrontation here. The driver didn't sound his horn aggressively, it was just a polite warning for your benefit. The way you immediately overtook him (knowing he'd soon get up to speed) was very childish of you.

@1967janey It's in a public place, there is nothing private about the plate.
drsquirrel0 11 months ago
@drsquirrel0 if you have a private number plate ie something like B10 ERF for example (its not taken) then you do acctually have full right to sue because the number plate is personal to the person not vehicle.
VolvoFH12580 11 months ago
@VolvoFH12580 No it isn't number plates are always registered to a car, when you sell the car the plate stays on unless you re-register the car with another plate - at this point the plate cannot be used on a car until it is registered on that car.
So when it is "to a person", it shouldn't be on a car.
There is no such thing as a private number plate, only a personalised one. Even then when you buy a new car sometimes the showroom will give you a choice of their group of avaliable plates.
drsquirrel0 11 months ago
@drsquirrel0 diplomatic plates are classified as private plates and belong to embassys of forign countries and are therefore classed as private, i get what your saying but what im getting at is if you publish a number plate you can still have legal action taken against you especialy if its in a derogatory manner and the one most famous company for doing such EDDIE STOBART LTD
VolvoFH12580 11 months ago
@VolvoFH12580 Diplomatic are not your so called private (personalised) plates, im not sure how those are treated but I know in a public place you can film anything, so it will still be okay.
As for derogatory, that would only be if there is no reason for it - so if a lorry did something wrong, they have no case.
Also that is a civil case.

MrJames27011 11 months ago
@MrJames27011 that would only work if he didnt have an incab reset system (mine does) :D

That was a bit of unreasonable driving there! i,m a truck driver and i cylce in my spare time, personally i would have pulled open his door when he stopped as all truckers do not lock them and then given him a right bollocking, most truck drivers would not dare to get out their cabs as most only feel tough when behind the wheel very few will actually retaliate and if they did then you call for the rozzers!

thomase1 1 year ago
You could probably have followed him to the store from there ;-)
I don't buy the "he was warning you of his presence" reason for using the horn, it's a possibility but given his other "driving" he does look to be trying to intimidate you.
SkrzypczykBass 1 year ago
That quick toot of the horn may have been simply him telling you he was about to pass, quite thoughtful of him if that was the case.
And there might have been many reasons for him to slow down that have nothing to do with you at all... from mechanical failiure to a stray dog in the road.
Don't be too quick to assume the worst of others, it will just make you into a bitter person.
... on the other hand, maybe he was being a dick... we'll never know

Regardless of his driving, you really should think twice about riding up his side and in his blind spot. I don't see it was worth risking your life because of a 1 second beep. You might have him on camera, but you'd still be dead.
I personally think you should have just dropped right back once he started accelerating off again, that's what I would have done.
specallez 1 year ago
Did you report him to the police and IKEA?
Zildjian285 1 year ago
highway code states: the horn is an audible warning devide to alert other road users of your presence he sounded his horn probably because he thought you may not have seen or heard him at the end of the day he covered himself and you noticed it he was more than a fair distance from you, he wasnt asking for a fight just letting you know he's there. HGV class 1 driver
VolvoFH12580 1 year ago 17
@VolvoFH12580 Okay, maybe so with the horn, because it is obvious that JameyCam is swerving from one side of the road to the other to warrant the horn, then why drive past and then apply the brakes and wait for JameyCam to catch-up and then try to speed off [and let us remember this is the safe rule-following driver we are talking about], then under-take at that squeeze-point?
busog97641 11 months ago
@VolvoFH12580 Fair point, but what's with the slamming on the brakes?
leapoffaith20 11 months ago
@leapoffaith20 he may have miss judged something like the vehicle in front or someone pulling out infront walking out infront but thats a guess because obviously we cant see what he is seeing, the other end of the line is he was just doing it to be a prick.
VolvoFH12580 11 months ago
Kurako76 1 year ago
@Kurako76 That's possible and a charitable interpretation of the driver's behaviour. However, the beep was less than 1sec before the cab overtook - it would have been better to warn the cyclist earlier, not when it was only a few metres behind (a beep can be quite off-putting at that distance). What's more, it would have made more sense for the HGV to have slowed down and negotiated the pinch points behind the cyclist. Finally, when Jamey was ahead of the HGV(trying to overtake), it accelerated
MrOrigamist 1 year ago

MrOrigamist 1 year ago
@Kurako76 I can - possibly - agree about the horn. That might have been a warning.
But I can't see the traffic island being an explanation for the slowing down. He's already through it, and clear by about 20 metres, and has basically parked. Then he floors it when Jamey is level with his cab. Not buying that.
WheelyGoodFun 1 year ago
@WheelyGoodFun absolutely - that was deliberate obstruction, and deliberate use of his vehicle as a weapon to intimidate. It just goes to show the kind of reaction you get from morons when you put yourself at risk by cycling in the dooring zone just to let them past. I wouldn't bother next time - ride where it's safe, and let him wait. It can't have mattered that much, as he'd have still got to the roundabout at the same time. Sad that he was too thick to realise that.
Camsplint 1 year ago

000widescreen000 1 year ago
I agree with the others, absolutely no reason for the beep. It is his obligation to make sure that he overtakes safely not for you to move out of his way. Braking like this is done to intimidate and sometimes to harm. Chances are if a cyclist goes into the rear of a trailer like that it wont show up too well compared to a car... makes you wonder if he's done that before?
downfader2 1 year ago
I bet it's You swung out in front of him!' - He failed to read the road and see those parked cars more like. As we know, drivers can be quite short sighted when it comes to overtaking cyclist. Maybe the driver was trying to hold you up like you held him up. Yeah, what gaz said, strange behaviour.
MelloVEL0 1 year ago
Somebody has been watching Duel by Steven Spielburg too many times.
Matthames 1 year ago
That was completely out of order. So many things wrong with his behaviour, but probably the worst is his acceleration as you are just coming past his cab. Probably not the wisest choice to overtake him, as you say, but at that point he is essentially parked, and to floor it like that when you are coming past him is clearly the action of a mentalist. It's gone beyond silly buggers at that point, and towards endangerment. Reminds me of Duel.
Letter to IKEA - let's hope his job is taken away.
WheelyGoodFun 1 year ago
Did he expect you to wait behind the parked cars?
That road does not look good to ride along (cycle lane in the door zone, pinch points etc). I'd contact roadsafe and the public relations dept at Ikea as they pride themselves on their social responsibility and the confrontational and intimidatory behavior by one of their driver's towards a vulnerable road-user is not doing them any favours.
Next time, stay behind the HGV...
