@jsnip4 Food scraps and yard waste make perfect chicken food anything not fit for human consumption as long as it isn't moldy is good for the chickens. Just make sure if you feed them egg shells that you bake them a little then crush them up so they don't recognize what their eating.
@elboertjie No I have not tested this system in that respect. I know I should but with 3 young kids and a wife and in the summer time now, it would be brutal because my solar panels are only producing around 1200 watts and that is not enough to run the a/c, washer/dryer, etc. Those appliances use 220 volt and this solar panel system is 110 volt. I have a new window a/c unit that I will use and can run all night long on the batteries but it's too much for the rest of the family to deal with now.
Good stuff man. Thanks for sharing your great ideas and solid efforts. Stay safe!

What are you composting? Most kitchen scraps grass leaves can go to the chickens then you can compost the chicken waste.

Good ideas. I'm trying some survivalist methods too but I'm not as far along as you are.

Really impressive! Well done.
You must have gained a lot of knowledge setting up all of these areas of self/sufficiency.
Have you tested your system yet for a one week, or more, stretch?

@elboertjie The solar panels or the hydroponic garden?
jsnip4 1 year ago
@jsnip4 You entire system, meaning to disconnect from the grid entirely in all the possible ways.
