Hey great build, I am 80% through swapping a 340 in my '91 dak (had the 4 banger and stick in it), can you tell me, did you have to shorten your throttle cable? Also, what wiring adjustments did you need to do? I would really appreciate any tips you could provide as this is one area of the swap I am not 100% comfrtable with.
we have a 92 dakota, and you'll notice the wheelbase and other measurements of the reg cab short box dakota match up to a 1960 d100 shortbox, so we were thinking of a little hot rod project. The problem is, we don't want a v6 powering a hot rod. We've looked and looked, and we can't find a reg cab short box dakota with a v8. How did you guys manage?
@warrenzonator I haven't done the swap yet but I have read about it quite a bit. The magnum you have.... you mean the one already in the truck, or the one you got to swap in? Just find another Dakota or a Ram with the 5.2L or 5.9L Magnum engine. The one trick is that the Ram uses the motor mount ears toward the front of the block, while the Dak uses a center-mount bolt-boss system. The bellhousing pattern should be the same.
@warrenzonator Oh, I thought you said you have a 92 dakota. Yeah, 87 is first generation, so they would have still been using 'A' engines. The Magnum engines are derived from the A engines but are not the same. I don't know how well a magnum would fit into a pre-magnum frame.
always wanted to stick my solid lift w2 340 in a dakota! Crisp sounding motor, very clean truck too! I would like to seee more footage of your truck..also a more detailed walk around of the motor!
Hell yeah!!! Smoke them ford lightnings!!!

@warrenzonator Just swap a Magnum 318 or 360 into a v6 truck. It's a relatively simple surgery.

@DaylightRobberyCA the magnum we have has different mounts. What vehicle did you get your engine from?

@DaylightRobberyCA ok. We have an 87 dakota, so I think thats why the mounts are different. Thanks

@DaylightRobberyCA ya, sorry, I thought it was a 92, but I mixed that up with the 92 cummins we have...

Is that stroker based on a LA Block or Mangum Block? That thing sounds wicked. I want to put a 408 in my 97 Dakota.
