The federal Gov't forced AZ to enact SB 1070. Since the federal gov’t refuses to enforce their own laws then AZ must. The reason 70% of the people in AZ & around the USA approve of this law is because they understand AZ has the right to & has to protect the citizens of AZ from the rampant rising crime coming from Mexico.

@greatpatriot1 I did read in the paper today they are sending at least 540 national gaurd troops to arizona in the next month.It is not the amount we all want,but it is a start.They are also sending them to california and texas.We need some trained fire power on the border.Any violence that erupts is because illegal foreigners are coming on U.S soil,armed with weapons and drugs.They will get what they deserve if they take pot shots at the N.G.

The minuteman project is a group of concerned citizens patrolling our southern border and aiding law enforcement in coordination and capture of illegals. I don't believe in giving them powers of arrest without the proper training and education to go along with it, or you're going to see a mass slaughter of your 'deputies' as you see in Mexico itself.

Foreign invaders would imply that they are armed and intent on causing destruction to US property and its' citizens. This is where technicality of wording would get you in trouble. Also, when you have them firing 'warning shots' is there not a tendency to want to shoot these illegals? You might have issues with a few bad apples that would destroy your program. You need people with very real training.

The best way to shut down the border is through an increase of the number of boots on the ground, but I will argue that the best way to do it is the alternative that we will not get. We need military and Police on the ground to work in coordination with concerned citizens. Increasing the numbers of both military and citizen observers will have the desired effect without undue burden on AZs budget.

@CTastic1 - I've personally been calling for a display of force that would scare the shit out of any cartel member. Imagine a combination of the virtual fence, physical fence, and 300,000 troops on this border. We would have the ability to shut down anything and everything coming across that border. We would be able to keep arms from flowing to Mexico, drying your supply lines, and we'd be able to stop your flow of drugs into the United States. In 6 months, you'd scatter like roaches.

@sanjosebrwnprdr - A calculated withdrawal needs to be made from Iraq. What has happened as of yet is many people that were deployed in Iraq have been shifted to Afghanistan. Some deployments that were scheduled to go to Iraq were shifted to Afghanistan. I believe we should immediately withdraw from Afghanistan, and bring those troops home to defend our borders. I'm with you, it's not likely, but if implemented, would WORK.

@jsmith2142 - We can't do that, it's against a shitload of laws. It violates the Sovereignty of the Nation of Mexico, for one. Second, do you honestly think that Obama is going to allow Calderon to be upstaged, after stroking Obama's 'ego'? Third, I know the power of our Special Forces as well as anybody, and the first tenet of Special Forces training is to never underestimate your enemy. Underestimation results in death, and potentially capture, when fighting a force on their own home turf.

They would send our forces into ambushes all day long. We need to dry your supply lines of cash and arms, capture your shipments of people and drugs, and you wouldn't last long in the desert. You'd be forced to scatter.
