I forgot to mention I'm using the colour cartridges as well as black. I think you only use Black, maybe that doesn't require the same priming routine. It's a crappy idea of aging the cartridges. Mind you my printer was free and I was able to buy loads of "brand new" but "out of date" sealed cartridges for very little money, so it doesn't owe me too much! It would be nice not to have to keep reconnecting the cable to that circuit board.
hmmm this does work, but disconnecting the cable prevents the printer from priming the catridges with everytime you turn it on. So after the primed ink is used it doesn't print. You then just have to reconnect the cable, turn the printer back on and let it re-prime and re-fill the heads with ink, once that's done disconnect the cable again until the ink in the heads runs out again. Shame there isn't a hack to actually disable the date check to the cartridges themselves.
@rayhertford something wrong with your printer then. I've got over 1000 prints with no problem printer has been off and on about 20 times since too with no extra action needed. Isn't HP great?
Excellent tutorial. managed to remove just the bottom cover to gain access to the circuit board. Printer now working again on what was 'Empty' cartridges. I still have the set of cartridges that I took out in May this year so may be able to reuse them!!! Thanks for sharing info and saving us all money.
Easier fix and no disassembly - buy "ARC" chips for your cartridges. You can get the chip itself and glue it in, or the whole cartridge bottom. ARC means auto reset chip. You have to put one on each cartridge as a set but you're looking at like $20. Unplug the cartridge, put it back and it resets. Allows refilling of the cartridges too. Better than the unplug of the service station
Did you say those were heater tubes? They are feeder tubes for the ink from the cartridges to the printheads.
I watched it again, you did say feeder, not heater. Try the ARC chips, or refillable set of 10/11 cartridges. BTW black print does use color - puts down a cyan layer then black over that to darken the black.
A little blech takes it off ...amost instantly. I have Epson an I hate Epson also ..Its totaly unethical and a dirty trick...$30 for $1 of ink. We need hackers of the software Drivers to diable there bullcrap.
@WOB1010 Rub lotion into your hands before you work on the machine, Work it into your skin well then wipe off the excess. Get the excess ink off with rubbing alcohol. I work on printers and plotters regularly and never have inky fingers and never wear gloves. Windex (actual Windex not cheap alternatives) also gets the ink off the parts and fingers easily. Bleach will dry your skin and make the skin crack.
Is it leagle in America to fraud like this , like a company as HP ?
Is there an organisation that protects consumers and does investigations ,to go to trial in court?
Here in Holland we have the "Consumers Bond" that stands for every member and even notmembers for fair trade and will go up to trial against fraud and bad products.
Exceedingly educative thank you, I presume your current audience would definitely want a good deal more writing like this carry on the excellent hard work.
hey does anyone knows how to bypass HP photosmart B110a series cartridge 364 expiration dates? does battery removing solves this problem for this kind of printer to?PLEASE HELP!! be.aija@inbox.lv
Useful. Don't you hate the arses who rip you off SO badly. HP deserves to fail, they design good priters then screw them up with greed and crap software that works badly on both Macs and PCs. Time for change. Maybe they are run by the Mafia for real. Oh, and don't forget the battery fix, if this one has a battery then open circuiting it with a sliver of insulation to reset stuff may work, but where is it if it has one? This works for others with memories...

This printer has really stressed me alot until I saw your video and everything is ok. I'm not sure why I didn't think of this earlier. Cheers from Kenya.
HP is a huge rip off. I can't even sell refilled or used cartridges on ebay anymore because people are scared they won't work anymore after the expiration date. Ink lasts more than two years people!!! HP like most companies is becoming Greedy. GREED, GREED, GREED!! Thats it. They did it to make sales go up. I have never ever heard of a printer going bad because the ink was old and damaged the printer heads. NEVER!!! I think we should all start sending HP millions of letters. Boycot HP!!!
Even video game companies are starting to do similar razor-and-blades tactics with their recent titles, such as 2K's Mafia II, which was said to be having cut content being sold as DLCs.

WOW! Thank God for people like you who expose us to things we may otherwise never discover. I am sick of buying ink refill cartridges--it is its own category in our budget. I have a hp J6480 so I don't know if the wiring and sensor thingie applies to me...but Today I am no longer afraid to hack open at least an ink cartridge and learn to refill my own cartridges. I can't believe I have been so afraid to do this for so long. Thanks again for your enlightenment.
This guy is a genious! Followed his advise and some pointers from other comments and it works! I didnt turn the printer upside down...just raised it up higher so I can work under it to remove the side panel. Good job my friend.
I have a HP deskjet F2480 that I bought for $60AUD, it has 2 cartridges black and tri-colour and it works without the tri-colour cartridge and I go through more black cartridges then colour.
I have yet to hack my printer so it will not tell me when ink runs out id rather just use a cart till the end and I did that once to finish off an old cart that was streaking. I printed out some covers to some of my games and put them on the wall. then I took apart that cart and made a video of it.
So this pringer you got it has a 3 separate tanks for the ink and its got pumps that pump the ink to the head? that is awesome that may have hacking potential so save this unit when it dies.
Good work. Mod works with 1200d (duplex). Works with all black and color cartridges regardless of expiry. Also works with the eBay continuous ink system.
Only have to put up with power (green) and paper (amber) blinking on/off constantly.
Also taking off bottom side grey panel: just flip the printer upside down and take a screw driver and pry off grey panel from bottom. Comes off with minimal breakage to tabs. 30 seconds and can pop back on after.
search the youtube the video, "dirty little secret about printers". it explains why you have so much ink that fell inside your printer. he shows how printers are designed purposely that way, while Hp claims its to lubercate the printer head (of course).
put a continus ink system on that printer if the bypass works long term and call hp on the phone and tell them your ink is expired and your still printing fine and that there a bunch of F### heads. For fun.
HP, EPSON, CANON, etc make basically nothing on printers but make a killing on ink. If you want to reload or buy cheaper third-party cartilages a simple GOOGLE search will help a lot and you need to find older models. If you need help send me a PM.
awesome

Great vid.
I can't print black because i have no color ink cartridge or the black cartridge is expired.
it's all bullshit and HP is at the center of it. They sued the generic ink refill companies too.
Hp should be sued. it's like bait and switch. Never buy an inkjet printer for any big amount of money. RIPOFF.
Buy laser printers.
