i donated for the first time last month and got really dizzy and probably almost passed out. which may have been because i had barely eaten anything that day lol. was your second time donating easier in the sense of dizziness? i want to donate again next month so i was just wondering :)
I donated two days ago for the first time...I was really scared but the pain only lasted...3 seconds at least..Everything was going fine..I did it..Got the wrap..swung my legs over the bed thingy, stood up..walked over to a bench..and sat down..I felt fine until 5 minutes later..I felt dizzy..My vision got super blurry..And i couldn't hear anymore..I was on fire too..I passed out..Turns out i didn't eat a good enough breakfeast...But i'm still glad i gave! Doing it again in April! :)
I'm donating blood for the first time Wednesday at school. I am beyond nervous about passing out. I don't usually pass out when i'm getting blood taken at the doctor but i know it takes like 20 minutes to get the pint of blood.
Ahh.. im donating next week. I wasn't really considering it until a friend of mine put it this way... If you were in a situation where u needed blood, you would hope that everyone who could give, gave. Wish me luck!
Oh my heck! I am really really scared of the thought of giving blood due to the size of the needle. Everyone says it doesn't hurt, and I know they're right. It's just so hard! I might give blood at my school this Friday, your video helped a lot with my nerves. Wish me luck if I end up donating!
Oh my goodness. You handled all that so calmly... I'm donating this Thursday, I'm so scared. Did you feel it being sucked out of your body? Or you didn't feel anything?
@123Pepsigurl As soon as the needle was in, I didnt feel a thing physically. But it was really amazing to watch my blood go into the bag and know that it would help someone else, as corny as that sounds. I'm glad you have decided to donate! I have been a regular blood donor and its awesome. Good luck on thursday! :)
Its great that you did this! It's important for us young people to give blood, I think. The part that hurts the WORST is when they rip off the tape from your arm at the end...ouch!
@WebkinzPuppyxxo Just when the needle goes in but it doesnt hurt more than a pinch to the under part of your arm. As you can tell from my reaction, it wasnt too bad at all.
When I went to give blood myself and I saw the needle go into my arm and I'm like wtf that is so fucking cool!!! The person sticking the needle in started laughing. I think she thought I was crazy.
I gave blood yesterday and it was a bit of a pinch :P I had a few side effects because it was my first time, oh well. Yay for saving three potential lives!
@JustSimplyKaren Watch out for that Pepsi! Caffeine can reduce your hematocrit. Iced tea (the state beverage of Texas) is particularly bad. Maybe I need to start feeding myself and not visiting Mexican restaurants!
@BlackFlame619 They wanted me to do platelets as I happen to be the universal platelet donor. Then they noted my drug-induced tremors and decided to have me stay with whole blood as I pump out a bag full in less than ten minutes.
@JustSimplyKaren I was one scared first-timer but then I started volunteering at the blood drives. Main things I did was unwrap and label the plastic containers, and I would carry the finished donations over so they could go in the fridge. So, I'm not bothered by needles except for when they're in me! I've donated 22 times in 55 years (32-year gap in there because I was in a place I was never aware of donation opportunities or I was deferred). Can't try again until the 8th of January because I
I just donated blood for the second time today. It's actually not that bad. My feeling is that the pain of a needle for a little bit isnt as bad as what other people might be going through and they need the blood. Good for you for donating. =]
:( i had to do that like 10 times for my surgery. it sucks so bad. but once the needle's in it's not that bad. i thought the finger pricking was the worst.
This is EXACTLY like my first time. But when they tested my iron, I had double the normal amount of iron, so they wanted me to give twice the amount of blood. I didn't haha. I didn't feel dizzy either. My friend's experience was horrible though. We're lucky.

what guage needle was it?
shadow0imposter 4 months ago
@shadow0imposter Usually 16- If it was smaller, the platelets would be damaged, and clotting would occur.

@JohnTehDodd I started donating in 1973 and they have improved the finger stick over the years. IMHO, it's more startling than painful.

@JustSimplyKaren PS: I would rather give a second unit than have to eat a doughnut. I do cookies and Chex Mix instead.

You’re so brave!
I could never do it. It was hard enough to get the blood samples taken when I was in hospital 2 years ago. oO
So if my iron level is low (and it is, because I’m a vegetarian), they wouldn’t want my blood?. Good to know. :)
Thanks for doing it!
