  • Still gets me teary eyed everytime I hear it;(

  • Timeless...

  • This closing theme is just beautiful (music). With the names of the actors included, this session must be from June-Aug. 1992.

There was scarcely a better soap opening/closing theme + visuals as this 1991 lighhouse "Hold on To Love" and the 1983-1986 "My Guiding Light" w/ the revolving/twirling "golden galaxy" visuals !!!!

  • @DarthSnoopy96

    SELF-CORRECTION:

this cast list is a mish-mash. The bulk of the actors place this in the May-Aug 1992 timeframe, but for example, Bryan Buffington as "Billy Lewis III" puts this in the late '93 or 1994 timeframe, around the "who shot Roger" storyline. 93/94 was when Jordan Clarke was absent (alcoholism) from his longtime role as "Billy".

  • this early 1990s theme was a revamped version of the early 1980s theme....either version was and still is in a state of beauty and relaxation.

  • loved love the ending on this show.im glad some1 got this&shared this.this brought back so much memories of me&my moms.thanks.

  • Whoever made this arrangement is a genius!

  • @pashotshot1

it was Rob Mounsey, who composed the theme music for GL for the 1991-2002 timespan.

  • Well, he is a genius!

  • i listen to this everyday and still get emotional:(

  • the credits was so long back then..

  • This theme still brings tear to my eyes;(

  • @vinster7997 ME too. We should cyber cry together :)

  • Even though Jill Farren Phelps did a stupid thing and killed off Maureen Bauer, I would still prefer her as Executive Producer than Paul Rauch. Paul Rauch hurt Guiding Light more than Jill Farren Phelps

  • The 90s was the golden era 4 Guiding Light.

  • I know Tim Tebow said something like that in a press conference a couple of months back. If only we could all be as open minded as you and speak from our morals. I wish you all the best in life and hope the new baby is healthy.

  • At the end of the credits, Nancy Bell, didn't she come on there later on as a woman named Susan, she was HIV positive, and Nick married her and they moved to France. I'm right aren't I? I STILL Miss my Guiding Light. I also LOVED that theme the best too.

  • Whoever wrote the theme music to "Guiding Light" should be awarded a nobel prize for miracles. Very few TV show intro/outro songs move me like this does.

  • This is fan-made credits. The real credits alternated between a yellow-gold colored font and white font (crew title in yellow gold color and person's name in white; character name in yellow-gold color and actor's real name in white)...Also at the start of the credit scroll as the title faded out the first credit would fade in at the center of the screen and scroll halfway up...In this scroll, the first credit scrolls from the bottom...However this is a good recreation.

  • These are the real credits. They went to shots of the days episode around 1995 or 1996.

  • Always loved the music, and the fact that they brought back the lighthouse as all those years, Loved the announcer's voice as weel.

  • Jill-Farren Phelps ruined Guiding Light. If Irna Phillips were alive, she would probably kill Phelps. RIP Irna Phillips and Guiding Light. Phelps also ruined Another World. RIP to many people cast members from the apparent 1993 credit: William Roerick (1995, car accident), Larry Gates (1996, leukemia), Beverlee McKinsey (2008, kidney failure), Vince Williams (1998, colon cancer) , Michael Zaslow (1998, Lou Gehrig's Disease).

  • These credits were around May or June 1992. Monti Sharp [David] first appeared around April 1992 (days prior to the Gilly-and-Hamp wedding, and Kimberley Simms's [Mindy] last appearance was in June (timed for the "Blackout" episodes).

  • One of the best themes ever made for any production! Guiding Light will live on in our hearts forever and ever...thank you so much for all the memories!

  • LOVE the theme song to "Guiding Light", though I really don't care for watching soap operas.

  • I love Guiding Light . It 's very a long time since when I watch this show when I was a kid. I love this theme song so much, I really really love this music so much.

  • Michael Zaslow was a great actor, I miss that guy very much, I didn't know he died in 1998, Zaslow will live forever.

  • This is very strange as they put the name of Beverlee Mc Kinsey as Alexandra Spaulding and she had already left the show saying in her contract that she had a open clause to leave the show when ever she wanted to. She was the best ever on Guiding Light.

  • This is fan made, despite what the uploader wants you to believe.

Doesn't change the fact its awesome though.

  • Kind of a boring close to me, although I will accept it over anything today. I was always one who thought there should ALWAYS be something behind the credits that moved while the crawl went by. I never liked a "frozen" background. I preferred the "GOLDEN GALAXY" background they used from 1981-1986. It moved and turned as the credits rolled.

  • R.I.P. Guiding Light....after 72 years...wow!

  • so this is really the end.....wow! hard to believe...9-18-2009 was the last show...I would watch GL every now and then but my Grandmother would watch this every day until she passed away in the spring of 92.

  • This is my absolute favorite theme from GL since I've watched it starting as a kid back in the 80s. I love it! It will be a sad hour for me this afternoon as I say goodbye.

  • I'm gonna be watching the series finale today as well. Anyone else?

  • Damn, that brought a lil tear to my eye

  • R.I.P Guiding Light!!!!

  • Kinda makes you wish you appreciated the ending credits to soaps (tv shows) back then.

  • And Wayne Fitzgerald also did the title design during the "Llanview Bridges" era of One Life to Live from 1984-1991.

  • I used to love this theme when i was growing up, i'm 18 now, but this, like many other soap themes, this is part of my childhood memories.

  • From 1990-1994 2:54 this use to be my favorite thing.

  • this was when guiding light was guiding light. this brings back so many memories. i remember getting home from school the sally jessie show was after this. time has changed so much....

  • no it wasn;t, i coulda sworn family feud was after this.

  • @Wheeloffortunefan999 it depends on where you live

  • I love this closing a lot it bring me back memories.

  • It is a sad day in Soap Opera land today. Thank you for the memories, Guiding Light.

  • The longest runing scripted program in the history of humanity and I'm talking about countless eons of human evolution is the story of the Guiding Light. I wish that it could have at least done 100 years.

  • This can't be from 1993. The legendary Beverlee McKinsey vacated the role of Alexandra Spaulding in the Summer of 1992. Marj Dusay took over in 1993, around the time of David's (Monti Sharp) murder trial.

  • This is a composite ending video.

  • All these closes are fake!!!!!

  • Fake? What makes you think that?

  • Guiding Light Has Made as of Groundhog Day 15,609 episodes.

  • Just beautiful and hypnotic...

  • The show sure was a class act in this era.

  • times have changed so much.. i remember watching with my grandmother too after school. RIP classic GL.

  • This sure beats those split screens and their adds playing for the millionth time.

  • i hate the split screen. when they split screen you may not be able to see the logo

  • Yeah, you're not alone. Lot of us hate them. Likewise over on TPIR (also part of CBS Daytime), the split screen credits mean you don't get to see the Showcase winners for very long.

  • Ditto..especially when you watch TPIR..those split-screen credits make you annoyed when you don't get to see the Showcase winners for too long.

  • It's about to be RIP GL altogether.

  • And you have to wonder what will take its place..after all, it's the longest running soap opera in the history of daytime TV.

  • Classic...the tears are welling up!

  • Why are the tears welling up?

  • This particular theme brings back memories of my Grandmother. I used to watch this soap with her when I came home from high school every afternoon. And melodically, it is very soothing. :)

  • I'll never forget the day I turned to CBS a couple minutes early for TPIR...

    =)

  • One of the stations that I know puts Guiding Light on before TPIR is WCBS-TV New York. Guiding Light comes on at 10 AM, followed by TPIR at 11 AM.

  • In the early 90s, one writer called GL "the most exciting hour of television during either day OR night" - for a reason.

I miss those days of watching with my daughter. And I miss Michael Zaslow. A fine actor and wonderful man.

  • Do you remember which writer said that? I agree so much with it.

GL's last golden era was the early 90's, when Nancy Curlee was the main Head Writer.

  • It was called by one writer "the most exciting hour of television during both day and night" for a reason.

Miss those days. I miss Michael Zaslow. A fine actor and wonderful man.

  • This music is so beautiful and soothing too!!! I love the closing theme!!!!!! It makes me wanna cry!!!!!!!!!

  • You & me both.

  • Because the music is soothing and nice. Its what you expect to listen to in a health spa.

  • Love that tune! It sounds like "And like a good neighbor, State Farm is there" (Barry Manilow wrote that jingle believe it or not).

  • I used to love this theme especially since it's the full version.

    Thank you for posting it.

  • It's called "Hold on to Love". I always liked it because it was the first time in 20 years GL brought back the lighthouse.

  • Wow. This is amazing. I love the music. It's too bad you don't see stuff like this nowadays. I'm adding this to my favorites, even though I've never seen one episode of the show.

  • The credits are 3 minutes long! You're lucky if the credits make 30 seconds these days.

    And the song is great.

  • why didn't they have the pictures in this one? seeing how long the credits were, why didn't they add the pics?

  • Doesn't this song make you wanna cry?

  • Yeah, it has that really emotional sound to it!

  • does it have it on limewire?

  • the song is so sooth.

  • This is one beautiful song. I used to record Guilding Light just so I would have the full version of this song.

  • Don't forget the full PGP logo, as that's a rarity as much as this is.

  • I was only 4 years old during the time I heard this Guiding Light theme. Now I'm 18 and I still remember what it sounds like.

  • This was GL's golden age for me!

  • Strangely enough, I never watched any soap operas, and every time the show is over (or when the show is about to start), I always tune in and listen to it. That was back when I was about...say...7 or 8 at the time.

  • And what a treat, the FULL theme and the FULL PGP logo.

  • I just loved this theme, both the open and the close. I really miss the days of closing credit rolls. I don't think TV, and especially the soaps, will ever be as good as they were in the past.

What a great cast GL had back in 1993!

  • They changed to chyron about 1995, I believe.

  • I love this tune and the faster opening version was fantastic too GL's titles at this time were also the best. I wish they still used them

  • Jerry VerDorn (Ross Marler) should have been on the list as well, he was the longest running actor on the show until he left in 05

  • this theme is so beautiful... I am italian and in italy the theme of guiding light is "this is the time" a billy joel's song

  • Beverlee McKinsey, Jeff Phillips and Kimberley Simms left the show in 1992 not 1993. You forgot to add that Elizabeth Keifer (Blake) was in 1993 also.

  • Um, preciouspunkprincess, I'm talking about this Early 1993 credits.

  • bridget last name was reardon, not reade! definitely custom made!!!

  • these are custo,m crdits because the real credits consisted of the characters name with three dots slanted top of the actors name. and the font was yellow=)

  • This is a real closing...In the good old days when all involved in the show were given credit

  • I think maybe real credits.

  • These are without a doubt custom made credits, but they are quite good!

  • I think these are homemade.

  • Are these the real credits or are these homemade?
