  • NINA STEMME! Greatest women sopran ever. EVER!!!

  • He looks a bit like UVBulb

  • I would put "Tristan and Isolde" on an "empty" stage. First act in blue light, second act in red light, third act in grey turning gradually into total black. You would be surprised how the music came over.

  • Time Tunnel? Very interesting production. Tristan and Isolde is my favourite opera anyway! Thanks for posting.

  • I prefer the Slim Whitman and Patsy Cline version.

  • i saw this last summer at glynde - it was sensational. My brother cried at end of act one, i was distraught but inspired by the time we got to the last act. Lady next to me stood up in the aisle, she couldnt stay in her seat at the end - what a performance, what a way to be introduced to wagner!

  • ty, Opus Arte, I will buy this performance on bluray, and ( I,m not joking), I need other performance of " tristan und Isolde " with Meier, those 2 singers the best Isolde today

  • I have this walkirye of Aix, too, and the best singer is Westbroek ( in this performance at least )

  • Looks very good. Stemme is a fantastic Wagner soprano, and I love Gambill since the Aix Walküre.

  • I also heard Gambill for the first time in the Aix Walküre. Since then, I am "addicted" to his voice and performance.

  • it,s for Opus Arte, my english is bad, sorry, have opus arte in a future this performance in bluray format?

  • Dear wolfgangtheophilus,

This production is due for release on Blu-ray in September this year, although this is subject to change.

    Best wishes

  • Actually this is one of the greatest ever production of Tristan - I have just had confirmation I have seats for this summer to see the revival.

  • Look at that ridiculous set. Will this modernist ("postmodernism" is simply another stage of modernism) fascination with nonsense ever end?

  • @Jitpring This production is gorgeous. Clearly you know nothing about Wagner's writings: Theater of the Future! Get with it and stop with the stupid remarks.

  • @Jitpring Although you posted your comment about one year ago allow me to answer you. I disagree with you although I respect your opinion. I think the less there is on stage and the more abstract the stage setting is the better it is for Wagner's music. I emphasize WAGNER'S MUSIC. Sure, the story is taking place in early mediaeval Cornwall and Brittany but Wagner's music of Tristan and Isolde is, more than the one of his other operas, timeless.

  • Too much ado about nothing

    Enjoy if you are able.

  • Nina Stemme and Rene Pape are wonderful. DVD is released 2-26-08!

  • Dear Walkure

Thanks for leaving your comments. Just to let you know, this DVD was released on 1 January 2008 in the UK. You will find it available directly via the Opus Arte website if you are interested.

    Best wishes

    Opus Arte

  • Many thanks; this is outstanding Wagner.

  • @opusarte

Beautiful music but I am seriously sea-sick from the Setting.
