Dragon Quest IX - Character Creation

Creating Goku from DBZ is too easy. I got a Goku formula different from that. THIS Goku is from SaiYuki.

Male/Size 5/Hair 5/Hair Color 2/Face 1/Skin Color 4/Eye Color 4 (Martial Artist)

I can make other characters in this game BESIDES those in DBZ using the limited info available.

For example, even with no pigtail, I can make the following with these formulas:

MALE RANMA SAOTOME

Male/Size 3/Hair 1/Hair Color 1/Face 1/Skin Color 2/Eye Color6 (Martial Artist)

FEMALE RANMA SAOTOME

Female/Size 4/Hair 1/Hair Color 3/Face 1/Skin Color 2/Eye Color 6 (Martial Artist)

I've cracked a unique code on how to create familiar characters in DQ9! For example, to make Goku from DBZ (since Akira Toriyama's designs are in every DQ game), make your character male, then use the following:

Body Size: Type 2

Hair: Type 7

Hair Color: Type 5

Face: Type 9

Skin Color: Type 3

Eye Color: Type 5

Finally, when you save Abbot Jack and get the option to change vocations, make Goku a Martial Artist.

The 6th face type was edited to be different in America. I wonder if it was to not be offensive to black people cause that's how they're typically drawn in anime

@JackRabbit894 Oh my, yes. Every piece of armor and weapon changes your character's appearance. Some armor pieces and weapons are re-skins of others, but there's a tremendous amount of character customization available.

@technopixie96 There's likely a video of someone creating a female character somewhere on YouTube by now. I only play male characters in RPGs (with the notable exception of Guild Wars, where I just couldn't stand the male Monk's running animation), so I stuck with what I know.

Can you create more than one character? Like you have one file which could be file one, then you have another character which could be file two and so on... please reply!!! :D

@TillieMoon Nope. Only one save file. The game keeps a backup of your save file, but there's only one usable save slot.

Considering this is the first time Dragon Quest has featured a character creation tool i think it's executed well, i wasn't expecting oblivion style customization because it's the DS, i havent played a DQ game since DQ XII so i'm looking forward to getting this

@Cloud5558 There is, but it may be a while yet. I'm about 9 hours into the game and just arrived at the town with the NPC that allows you to change your characters' jobs.

@Zanmatt2g I'm about 7 hours in and I haven't had an opportunity to change the base appearance of my main character yet. I am able to change what equipment my main character and other characters are wearing, though.

@BentopV1 The default color is close to black...but not quite. I wish there was a true black hair option, too.

there wasn't black hair in Magician's quest either which has similar graphics. Maybe some people find it offensive.

@Zanmatt2g I doubt that would be the case as both Magician's Quest and Dragon Quest IX released in Japan, a nation where black is a very common hair color. Maybe they think dark brown is close enough to pass for either black or brown?
