I would recommend getting the scales down and the ability to use at least three fingers well with both hands. It'll help tremendously when you go to learn songs and you'll be able jump into the intermediate songs.

But for songs I could probably recommend:

Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes

All Together Now by The Beatles

I Can't Explain by The Who

Feel Good Inc. by The Gorrilaz

Either way, practice lots. If you keep at it, you'll improve quickly.

Not sure your son's name (Demetri?), but I was chuckling at 3:24 because, like a true musician who's into his music, the head starts going side to side. He's really jazzin' out! ha! Love it. Yes, I've heard of that VINYL stuff. Got quite a collection myself... some still in the shrinkwrap. Use to get these for $3.99 "back in the day." White Album on white VINYL has a $6.99 sticker on it. And Dad used to feed 8 of us at McD's for under $10. Can you believe it?

I went through my records with the kids yesterday and we have a white vinyl "White Album", too! I had forgotten that. It still has the posters and pictures inside, too. I used to save my baby sitting money to come up with that $7! The Beatles were the first music I loved and I really like that my kids and I can share music. Now all we have to do is get my turntable fixed! We have a lot of MP3's on the computer, but it is not the same, you know?
