Seriously, if you want a really clean sound, you'll want a big box with a long port to help eliminate port noise. If you want just plain loud, 4 cuft with a 4"x11" port, or something close to that.

they will bang hard if they were all freeair with an acoustic song playing. exactly how much they kick depends on alot of things; the car isn't one of them. get decent amps, good wiring, good head unit, and spend some time making the box. don't hurry to get anyone part done or else youll regret it (which is why i've had almost 2 grand of stereo stuff in the back of my trailblazer for 3 months now- i didn't have enough money to get the amp i wanted. now i do, and i'm installing it this sunday.)

wood: go mdf. with plenty of internal bracing if you plan on 4 l7's

head unit: you'll be satisfied with the pioneer 4/5/6000, but whatever you want is fine

box size: it depends on what type of box you're building... band pass, ported, sealed. and what youre after... sound quality, db level, mix. i have 2 kenwood 12's on a kicker 750, and i gave each sub about 2.5-2.7 cubic feet each(havn't done an accurate measurement yet because i made a change in design when i was building it).
