I wish the bare FSX install was as exciting as the video suggests.

If you really want to take FSX to the next level, try FSX and FS9 voice control.

I use something called "Multi Crew Experience" (and yes you can try it for free for a full 7 days period). I get the co-pilot to dial frequencies on my voice commands. No more flying the heavies alone. Just like in the real world :-))

All you need is a headset with microphone to take the next step in flight simulation realism. LOL :-))

@markjason2 yes you can use just the keyboard although it's just about impossible to fly with just that. It would be well worth buying even a cheap $30 joystick.

Those who really love this game enough would go for some of the Saitek hardware. I personally am just fine with a Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick.
