This music is gonna give me nightmares. I was thinking due to the photo that it would be upbeat. Something I could shake me ass to. Boy was I wrong. I could only listen to a minute of it before I had to stop it so I could add in my little two cents. : )
I would play this at my funeral just to scare the shit out of people as a last ultimate joke. I am one of the few that actually love this piece, its beautiful, it transcends humanity.
@theprof1958 It's funny you should say that, because the name of this piece is "Kyrie", a transliteration of Greek κύριε (kyrie), vocative case of κύριος (kyrios), meaning "Lord", is the common name of an important prayer of Christian liturgy, which is also called the Kýrie, eléison (Greek, Κύριε, ἐλέησον, for "Lord, have mercy").
I think more atheists should study what they hate. I am an agnostic, and I study world religion a lot.
I study world religion, too, since I learnt to read:
I was Catholic of course, and I got many Sacraments: Baptism, Chrismation, Eucharist, Penance. I also studied Catechism
Each religion has its peculiar crazyness. Big religions have done the largest number of victims, of course, but little ones do their 'best' to make our earthly misery depper and deeper.
Think of Mormoms, Jehovah's Witnesses or Dianetics, to name a few...
Death is not honey. Even who believes in life after death is desperate when a relative or a friend has gone. That's why I love this and Mozart's requiem.
@theprof1958 I was talking about the music. I don't think you can say that death is frightening like it's a fact. That's a personal opinion. I'm arbitrary if it comes to things like that. I can not know for sure whether there is life after death. No one can. We can just guess. It's human to be afraid of the unknown, and through history this stereotyped image of death has been created; horror, anxiety etc. Death is presented as something horrbile, which it may not be, so why be scared?
damn look at the size of that oboe! and the little dude in it is just holding his thumb up like YEAAAAH!, and the guy with the flag hat is like YEAAAAAH!
I can't begin to describe the memory of sitting suspended (1st row balcony!) in space at the old Martin Cinerama, St. Louis on opening weekend of "2001". It was my eighteenth birthday. Ligeti and I were made friends that fateful night....
i know where to get the full composition, a re-recorded version, plus sheet music, I was planning on posting up but then another youtub channel had the song from the 2001 soundtrack but it was removed because of "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation. " ect...
I was obsessed with this composition for years, then discovered there was a 30 minute version, and the local university has this plus the SHEET MUSIC. I was going to post it till i discovered that another video was taken down because "This video has been removed due to terms of use violation. I think Universal Edition has a copy of the full score. Beware: it tends to charge copious amounts for paper, although in this case it's kind of easy to understand as the paper used for this work is incredibly tall.

It is known that Kubrick experienced psychedelic drugs (e.g. LSD) in the 60s
More than half of his Space Odissey's soundtrack is Ligeti's music :-)

Thanks to urban dictionary I understood you was not insulting me :-)
Then I saw you are 17, and as a teacher I have known thousands of 17s
It's MANDATORY to use 'bad' words!
Example (talking of Mona Lisa during a visit to the Louvre)
"Wow, dude! It's fucking cool the SOB who made that hot drawing. He must be shitty full of money to live in a place like this..."
[BTW, did the sentence before did make any sense?]

I cannot accept the idea of spending eternity and beyond with people like Jesus Christ and his father
I prefer eternal death
