I attended Carmen in Amsterdam yesterday and it was a memorable experience. There was some room for improvement in the French diction of most of the cast, but we can't have everything, can we, and why would a Dutch audience bother about French diction. Yonhoon Lee is truly amazing. Not only does he have a wonderful voice, he is also a brilliant actor. His acting transcended the melodrama of the libretto and almost made me weep. I hope they are going to produce a DVD.
YongHoon is performing Don Jose at this moment at the Dutch National Opera. I am in the Choir, and WHAT A VOICE! And a nice person too! Im looking forward to our 9 Carmens!
Wow! Great voice. And he keeps up the "I've been beaten up" body language for most of the song, which deserves extra credit as so many tenors forget about acting soon as the aria starts.
As for the piano - was this a rehearsal, or was the opera produced that way? And where was it?
