@SeanOrange It's worth it from what I have heard, because Bomberman is regarded as the BEST party game ever made (sorry SSB), and the amount of players makes it even better. The only bad part is getting a U.S copy of Bomberman which will dent your wallet about $100 for a good complete set.
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood has parallax scrolling. It was a CD game, but just adding CD capacity wouldn't increase the system's graphical capabilities. BTW, your Angry Nerd is more like Douchey McNitpick from TGWTG than AVGN.
Maybe Sindra shouldn't be in anymore videos until she learns what a video camera is and stop using a slide show of still photos with a voice over :-P.
I love the Turbografx. What I like about it is that almost every game on the system is exclusive to it and that makes for a really unique and interesting library. Its graphics might not be as good as the Genesis or Super Nintendo, but in most Turbo games I've played, the gameplay is very solid, so it's got it where it counts. And they weren't "whoring" Bonk. They had a great character and they just wanted to expose him to as wide an audience as possible. Nothing wrong with that.
4:55 Angry PC Engine Nerd is exaggerating. The most popular game titles were still being released on the Famicom (most likely because Japanese developers were thinking about selling their games in America).
@SeanOrange That, Mister, was an immaculate answer! +100
BTW, I really like your videos ;) Nice material and info, improvements in video editing and (slowly :) performance and behavior on camera. And last but not least, I can see that you really love the scene.
Congratulations and thank you very much for your time and info.
The code names for the GameCube and Wii were Dolphin and Revolution respectively. Similarly, the Famicom uses "HVC" for Home Video Computer in its model numbers.
I actually never checked the model names of those systems before, but I picked up a Wii-mote, and sure enough it was "RVL-003". Good find!
At 2:50, "Did you catch that ______?" - What did you say here Emily? Energy? What? It's driving me crazy, I've listened to it non-stop for seriously the last like 15 minutes and I can not catch it.
@therealhardrock You raise a potentially interesting point. I just checked it out, and the PS2 slim is only smaller in the height dimension, and maybe 60% longer (or wider, depending on how you're measuring it). And even if you hacked off that extra length and stacked it on top, it would actually then be taller than the PC Engine. It also wouldn't work. XD
The problem with the Playdia was that it was a Japan only console that couldn't compete the dominant systems that were popular world wide. This was the same problem faced by other Japan only consoles like the Wonderswan.
@therealhardrock Love me a Wonder Swan. Sometimes success in the Japanese market is all the companies are gunning for. Now that America makes its own console, it does bring up questions of Japanese relevance in the global gaming market.
@SeanOrange But Japanese companies are at a disadvantage when their competition has the financial backing of America but they don't which is why the PC Engine eventually lost to the Super Famicom and why NEC never made a successor to the PC Engine.
@therealhardrock NEC did make a successor to the PC Engine: the PC-FX. It was a 32-bit, disc-based system. There were also a few versions of the PC Engine such as the CoreGrafx and SuperGrafx. So it's not for lack of trying!
@SeanOrange Have you noticed that the major Japanese developers support the Wii much more than the other consoles? Just look at a list of games for the consoles and search for ones developed by Konami or Capcom or other major Japanese names and you'll see what I mean.
@therealhardrock Well, I'm not surprised that they support it over the 360, because Japan still hasn't taken much of a shine to "foreign" consoles -- Tecmo's previous Xbox-only stance not...withstanding. (There must have been a better way to phrase that!) I don't know about PS3 vs. Wii, though. The 3DS, on the other hand, has LOTS of developers creating great titles that the Wii hasn't been able to garner on either side of the ocean.
It's a delicate balance. We try to be informative but also entertaining. Hopefully we are at least partially successful at these things. But yeah, the criticism is valid. Sean has a much better AV setup than me and my segments in both audio and video look notedly worse. That's why most of the speaking comes from Sean.
We could have just voice overs and shots of the gear but so many people already do that (better than us). We choose to throw in ninjas, nerds, talking consoles, ect.
I think the Angry PC Engine Nerd represents a lot of nerds who belittle people who don't know about things like the PC engine because most normal Americans only know about the consoles like the Genesis and Super Nintendo that were popular in America. In fact, Famicom Dojo is all about educating those people, isn't it?
@SeanOrange i really enjoy the parts where you are straight forward informative, showing off the gear. your presence is also nice, but i feel it could still look better. the parts where your friends would literally be in my face, spitting and screaming, was a little unbearable. such as the girls stop motion flash photos, it was uncomfortable. having a more consistent mic would really make it more enjoyable, too. BUT EVERYONE is a critic, right?
@FaunoDufaux Understandable. The blessing that is also a curse of doing shows like these is that no two people are physically in the same space and all need to use their own equipment. Heck, the entire show is predicated on the idea that Vinnk and I are already on opposite sides of the Pacific.
Worry not -- next few episodes we're settling down a bit more, but the format will continue to be... nonstandard.
@FaunoDufaux Of course! We do this show because we love to do it (even if it takes forever sometimes), but it's worthless if people can't connect to it. And we are ALWAYS open to (constructive) criticism, so I thank you for both your candor and kindness.
@FaunoDufaux The use of the photos steams from the fact I don't have a good video camera, so instead of everything being grainy and poorly-lit, I opt for the better quality photos and make due as best I can. It's hard when obviously Sean has the better set-up, though.
The version of Space Harrier for the TG-16 was pretty damn good. Definitely better than the Master System, but not as good as the 32x one. Still, I play the TG-16 one more 'cause the 32X is a bitch and a half to set up.

Did they really make the Turbografx-16 bigger than the PC Engine for no reason? Is all that extra bulk nothing more than empty space?
