  • You rebuilt your LQ1? 0_0 I plan on doing exactly that with my 94 GTP's motor.. how much was the rebuild, I'm guessing around $4,000 for balancing, new rings, and all the goodies... Is that optimistically low or am I close? oh and how did the 13 degree exhaust retard do? Was it worth it or should I keep 0 degree?

  • do you have a gauge duct taped to your dash?! NICE! LOVIN THE GHETTO VIBE

  • how much did it cost to do this swap

  • If you've still got this car, you should try 6/6 timing instead of the 13 degree exhaust retard. It's much better.

  • Itr's actually timed straight up right now. I may try that when I service the timing belt and idlers next for shits and giggles.

  • can i just get a 3.4L and swap everything from my 2.8 to the 3.4L no problem?? like motor mounts intake front motor pulleys...? will it bolt up to my auto tranny?? wich fly wheel i use??

  • With a 3.4 OHV from the 93-95 Camaro or Firebird, you can do exactly that. It's just a bigger 2.8, even has all the bolt holes and stuff, except for the starter is on the wrong side - you need to drill the holes in the right place.

This is the LQ1 3.4 DOHC though - nothing is the same, although the 2.8 engine mounts will bolt right on, and the tranny will bolt right up. You'll have to make up your own wiring harness, use the original computer, everything. It takes a bit of work.

  • Rodney Dickman sells a starter relocator

  • Hey where'd you find your 282 tranny at? Im looking for one atm to bolt up with my 3.1 turbo engine i just put in my gp.

  • 282? It came in the car with the original 2.8L. Tons and tons of GM 5 speed cars had 282s. The 3.4L DOHC came with a rare 284 but I gave up trying to find one. They're pretty much the same anyways aside from stronger internals in the 284.

3.1 TGP engine eh? I found one at the junkyard, and am going to drop it in my other Fiero. California legal turbo V6, should be pretty bad ass. Good luck with yours!

  • i'm waiting to see you tear someone up with your fiero.

  • LOL...A Miata!!!

    "I'm Mia and I'm Tia"

  • 550rwhp. I might be able to get 250 of it to the ground. =)

  • Once I actually do any mods at all to the engine itself, I might just be able to, too. I'm just getting started here.

  • archie's conversion kit

  • Sweet, my buddies and I open fire on people who drive cars this loud at night.

  • So did we, and much much more. Problem is, you'll have to hit me, first. Good luck!

  • bullshit! oops... did i just call your bluff?

  • anyone know who sells a conversion kit to put a 4.9 cad v8 in my fiero?I've got a brand new 4.9 with a 4T60 tranny

  • is the engine a regular 3.4l or is it the twinn duell over head cam 3.4l?

  • it's the dual overhead cam... thats why it says 3.4L --DOHC-- at the top :-D

  • Sorry, it's just that the engine in question is so rare! Those 1990 olds cutless with the 3.lL Turbo would be a great car for turbo system parts. The emissions laws in my state regulate engine swaps and that sucks.

  • The 3.1L turbo was only in the Grand Prix Mclaren, it was never in a Cutlass. But yeah, it would be a great engine to swap in since you'd end up with a smog legal turbo car. You can only do it with an automatic though.

K0wK1lla and I both have 3.4 DOHC swaps in California, land of the harshest smog laws. I already got mine through BAR; I have a recertification sticker so its 100% legal.

  • Yeah and Series and I just snatched up a complete 3.1 Turbo drivetrain... it'll be going into my other Fiero. Smog legal turbo V6 Fiero!

  • You need a better muffler (I'm sorry but you car sounds horrible), but I'm sure it runs well. I run a Spintech on my 3800SC Fiero GT, and it sounds amazing. You can acutally hear yourself think while driving. The Spintech split case fits nicely in the stock position. You spent all that time and dough to go fast, now make it sound nice. Flowmasters and V6's don't mix. Just my $0.02.

  • I'm considering it. I do think that the crossover pipe coming loose from the front bank didn't help, nor did not having tailpipes of any sort. It's easy enough to reach up and unbolt it since it just drops right out. I'll fix the aforementioned issues and decide then. The Flowmaster is known for a drone at 2000 RPM or so - and that might be it.

  • I know what you meen about that drone. 3.4l has that v6 drone around 2000rpm. The stock muffs took care of it well but with just a resonator and no muffs is when you get this drone. Its not that bad but cruzing for a hour will leave you turning up the tunes to try to tune out that drone, lol. Source: best buds' 96 Monte Carlo 3.4l We beat the piss out of this motor, have fun trying to blow it up! Haven't blown it yet, though we did pull 1 in. part of the intake gasket through. 146,000 mi whoops!

  • building a honda is a joke. dohc 3.4 fiero would tool on a honda. Maybe not the s2000, but if you put the same money into a civic youd have... a civic

  • I've raced an S2000 with my 3.4 DOHC Fiero when my motor was stock. He walked on me. Dunno what mods the S2000 had though.

With my custom intake manifold my DOHC Fiero put down 221HP at the wheels. Should be no contest against a stock or mildly modified S2000..

NSXs will still be trouble of course..

  • "build a honda" <LOL

  • this video is so fuckend stupid i feel sorry 4 ure sorry ass build a honda u old school foos ill smoke ure ass with my moms 99 ford windstar u faggets

  • You don't even know how to spell "faggot". No surprise that you feel inadequate when it comes to cars...

I'm sure you'll say the same about the Chevy 383 in my boat, too... n00b.

  • That thing sounds awesome. I'm in the middle of building a LQ1. Where'd you get .030 over domed pistons?

  • Sealed Power replacement pistons are domed. the 91-95 part and 96-97 parts are different, but either will fit either year range of motor. I picked the late year application cuz the compression height is higher, and the top ring and oil rings are thinner for lower drag.

  • Yeah, I found some info on them. Appaprently using the 95-97 pisonts makes you lose compression because of the compression height.

I know the 3.4's are normally bolted to a Getrag 284, how's the 282 working for ya? Was it much work to put them together?

  • I thiiink it's the other way around? 96-97 pistons supposedly have a .006" higher compression height, assuming the valve reliefs are the same as the earlier ones.

The 282 bolts on like it was made for the LQ1 - not a single modification was needed. It's not as strong as the 284, but not NEARLY as rare. I don't think it's going to be a problem, strength wise cuz the Getrag is pretty rugged.

  • holy shit that kicks ass. Where in the US are you? I'm thinking about rebuilding a fiero myself.

  • I love the sound of a LQ1. hey fordman as for shitstangs being able to smoke the LQ1, check your stats 1st. Given there are some fast fords out there but the LQ1 can and does hold it's own.

  • not bad. When do you fly through all 5 gears though? lol.

  • I think it sounds pretty good...

  • hey Rustang's would smoke ur ass in a race!!3.4....blahahahah my mom's car is faster

  • We're talking DOHC 3.4, not 3400 or Camaro 3.4 iron head pushrod motors. To this day, it's still the hottest 3.4L motor made by GM. People can and have touched 13's with completely stock LQ1's swapped into Fieros. Isn't the latest rustang GT running 13.9 or thereabout?

Once I get things dialed in right, a light boost turbo system is the next step - I'm aiming for the 12's, daily driveable. There are cheaper ways to go much faster, but I'm having a LOT of fun with this thing.

  • Get an exhaust system, douchebag!

    :D

  • Wait, muffler. (Douchebag)

  • There IS a muffler on there. It's a tight 90 degree bend from the rear manifold outlet, into a catalytic convertor, into a 180 degree U bend into a Flowmaster 80 series, 2.5" inlet, dual 2.5" outlet muffler. The only thing missing is the two tailpipes and the tips!

It certainly doesn't sound like there's any exhaust at all on there, I agree. I may change out the muffler to something quieter if it doesnt quiet down with tips on it.

  • Sweet Jebus. There is a muffler? I may not know shit about cars, but that thing vibrated the air so much the video sounds like you're talking into a fan.

  • I think it turns out that my exhaust crossover pipe has a break in it at the flex joint, it should be much quieter once I install a new crossover, and tailpipes and tips!

  • It's probably loud for a few reasons.

    1) The decklid isn't installed

    2) Vibration on the motor mounts gets into the driver cabin pretty badly. I had this problem on my 84 after installing a poly bushing, but it eventually got better.

    3) A performance tuned cam will cause louder exhaust.

    4) This car was never very quiet to begin with.

The mic obviously got saturated which caused everything to get distorted. It probably sounds better in real life.
