  • nobody could make a repetitive loop as listenable as Dilla. the sample flip, the drums, the rhythm, the overall quality of the mix and master, the sequencing and his patterns, and just the sounds he chose, its unbelievable, i get bored of loops pretty quick, kept when Dilla is doing his thing. R.I.P to the GOAT! we love you man and were missing you!

  • Cotdamn this joint is beautiful! Lord thank you for the likes of 9th, Madlib etc for still bein alive

  • What album is this on? I need it in my life, feeling like nothing else matters when i listen to this. RIP J Dilla.

  • RIP J Dilla and DJ mehdi, they were the best...

  • dilla best ever

  • Someone please find this sample. Beeeeautiful.

  • Earl his older white foster brother

  • R.i.p Dilla. The Talent!

  • they better never forget dilla

  • I hope they never find the samples.

  • What Earl Klugh song does this sample? I'm very curious.

  • @Czirro once again, just because it's called "Earl" doesn't mean it's an Earl Klugh sample... Dilla's brother was named Earl so it could be named for him... no one knows this sample.

  • @svendiamond

That guitar is no doubt Earl Klugh, and I understand that he had a brother named Earl. I'm just wondering what song he flipped, because it came out amazing. This is one of the most beautiful tracks I've ever heard.

  • @Czirro Wait what? The guitar is "no doubt" Earl Klugh? How do you know? If it was Earl Klugh someone would've already found the sample... I can't believe you would just assume that it "is no doubt" Earl Klugh... Dilla also has a beat called "Zelda" that is absolutely NOT a Zelda sample. So he could just be trying to throw you. Just like Flying Lotus has a song called "Roberta Flack" -- not a Roberta Flack sample. No one knows this sample!

  • @svendiamond Actually, Earl is one of his brothers! ;)

  • @shutterdust didn't i just say that?

  • @svendiamond haha yeah i just noticed that, sorry

  • "I used to write for the love, but now I write for the love of you"

  • @Be1owTheHeavenz idiot i was just saying i know which earl hes talking about. i know hands down more about dilla than you doo.

    idiot

  • No dislikes.. thats wats up man

  • "Earl" may be refernce to Earl Klugh, a jazz guitarist...

  • @Destro728

It's a reference to his older brother.

  • this is so dreamy and creamy it gives me the chills to listen to it i would let my 13 year old listen and understand what music really is along with stevie marvin aretha and bird parker

  • I LISTENED TO THIS 20 TIMES SO FAR!!!! EPIC!!!

  • whats the sample DAMN

  • Just O D on his music

  • Comment removed

  • A lot of these beats had names like "Busta" "LL" "Kamaal" named after rappers these beats may have been meant for. "Earl" Simmons is DMX so any chance this was for him? I doubt it because this doesn't seem to suit his rough style but you never know

  • @kazam92 i will not cite my sources, but rest assured it is true. Earl was the name of James' adopted brother, whom he loved very much.

  • @tylerstone1980 makes much more sense. Thanks for clearing that up

  • @kazam92 I think it might be Earl after Earl Klugh, a jazz guitarist who might be the sample.

  • @samjohannes

It is actually named after his brother+Earl Klugh, whom he sampled for this song.

  • @9Bamba5 cool

  • @9Bamba5 it's never that obvious fam...

  • @BinaryVisi0n

does that mean that you know where the name comes from?

  • @9Bamba5 I'm not sure where the name come from. But Dilla had alot of beats with the names of singers or movies etc..and you would think "hey if he named the beat so -so it has be that artist or group.

the 'prince" beat is a perfect example..

  • @BinaryVisi0n its about his older brother earl

  • @srfalcon28 i never said it wasn't

  • @samjohannes well done. I'd be damned if DMX rapped over anything laid back

  • @kazam92 dmx was laid back before swizz beats fuct him up, ouTside of 3-4 good beats swizz beatz is a fucking clown, he is trash to hip hop.

  • @Shadapaga I mean his debut was Its Dark and Hell Is Hot (a classic) and he was agressive then but yeah I don't much care for Swizz Beats. Bastard got Alicia Keys

  • @kazam92 yeah i pretty much agree with you 100%, i like a couple of his songs after but swizz was never a great producer. such a waste of alicica keys

  • Rest in peace J dilla,Im looking to finish my "Rest in beats: J Dilla Tribute album for you sometime in 2 more months"

  • sigh...I miss this man...I use to bang this instrumental all the time..cats use be like, "who's that??!"..run that back

  • ne one else think this sounds a little like the Desperados beat, with canibus and lost boyz??

  • damn! . could this beat get any SSSSSSMMMMMOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHEEEEEERRRRRRR!!!!!!!1

  • this track just saved me from depression.....lol i was on a proper downer and this just got me soo nice.....

  • I wanna meet Dilla so badly. The only way to see him is when im dead:(

  • Jesus God!!!!!! Ride in my whip windows down head bobbin...hopin i dont miss a stop sign or red light!...J DILLA!!!!!!!!!!! FOREVER

  • This IS E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. for me !!!

  • j dilla...changed my life..fuck R.I.P why are all my favorite producers dead...R.I.P nujabes

  • @BlizzZX Nujabes REALLY hurt. I had no idea he died. It's not like they reported it in the news. It's like I got slapped in the face with it. Dilla had already passed by the time I tried to find out who he was cuz Adult Swim was my first exposure to him. Wish I would've found out earlier.

  • @HuggumsMcgehee I remember - this was back b4 I reely started getting interested in producers - I bought the Beats Rhymes and Life album - and as I got older and reading thru the booklet seeing Jay Dee as the producer I remember thinkin man... if I had to choose whos beats I would want it would be this guy!!

  • damn 0 dislike for 30 000 views, never see that. RIP Dilla Boy

  • when i hear this nothing else in the world matters yo! WORD IS BOND!

  • que musico, que elegancia, que porte...E N O R M E......J DILLA CHANGED MY LIFE...

  • stress reliever right here!!

  • Slum Village

  • Earl is his brother and he got the sample from Earl Klugh. I feel this has to be about his brother who left home early.... This beat is almost sad yet nostalgic about missing his brother

  • hip hop needs this.

    dislikes0

    tscheahhhh!!!!

  • earl was dilla's half brother if im not mistaken..

but, why did jay have to go so early?

when dilla died, hip hop died.

  • @trueJB00 Naah i think it's named earl because that guitar is unmistakably Earl Klugh, great jazz musician

  • crimson n clover/ das da way dat i feel every time datcha girl comes over/ u know da drill im as real as a soldier/ drunk on ya love it's hard to stay sober/ can't role play/ too much of a cassanova/ she know ill stray one day and maybe bone her/ she feel da same way but not about her owner/ da man on her shoulder/ da sad lookin poser/ olivia get rid of da john trivolta/ he's too into himself and won't involve ya/ i wana kiss carress you know da rest/ i mould to ya body like a bullet proof vest

  • i thought dillas bruh, illa j, real name was john yancey, not earl?

  • @johnnyblaze104 Earl is Dilla's older brother who moved out of the house at a young age.

  • @YungToneyTwizt29

Is that the same Earl as he mentioned in the end of "One" off Welcome 2 Detroit?

  • @johnnyblaze104 he has 2 brothers

  • I'm still trynna figure if he named the song "Earl" because his brothers name is Earl or if he sampled this from the guitar artist "Earl Klugh"????

    IDK

  • Maybe its both and meant to be a coincidence

  • @LowSideProduction god point man going crazy wondering what sample is this.

    Rest In Peace, Dilla...

  • @MrJLBrown007 word....

  • @MrJLBrown007

why would the world have to end for you to have this on repeat for hours?

    i do that anyway

  • beautiful music man, where is this right now? as far as the game of music. Not hatin on anybody out right now but i never fall in love with any of it. this shit? instantly hooked. Rest in Peace Dilla.

  • only people remotely close are, Black Milk, Illa J, MF Doom, Madlib, 9th Wonder, Khrysis, just to name a few, this music is still out there, u jus have to search for it, and honestly, that makes it all the more dope, its like being in an exclusive club of real soul music, at least thats how i see it. ROCK ON DILLA, MUSIC ETERNAL

  • remotely is a bit of an overstatement..however you are true in the fact that music is out there

    ROCK ON DILLA, MUSIC ETERNAL

  • dope upload

  • I swear.

    24/7

this song is in my mind.

    Always.

    never stops...

    ever

    :)

  • it would take 3000 years to find the sample

  • Lmao wtf why is everybody rating my comment like shit? It was just a question, I was just wondering, there was honestly no intention of insulting J-dilla

  • try dilla's vintage instrumentals

  • Most of his beats never had verses on em, he made a lot of beat tapes without verses

  • Cause there to good for words.

    This is the real version.

    Dang.

  • Because his beats need no emcee.

    Hip-Hop started on instrumentals.

I prefer his instrumentals over anyone rhyming on them any day.

    Idiot.

  • I didn't fuckin know this was the actual version you fucking chode sucking faggit. Take a gun, put it to your head, and do the world a favor by ending your shitty little miserable existance. Thank you. Stupid shit

  • Well. I can say right now that the insignificant one is you.

If you're only hear to belittle the creativity and choices Dilla made for his purely instrumental tracks then you might as well stop crying and being so acrimonious when someone replys to you on the internet.

Your grammar is also infallibly low.

  • lol it's youtube, nobody gives a fuck about grammar.

  • So you reply about grammar yet cease to reply about Dilla's instrumentals.

Seems you're straying from the topic.

  • Wtf? What topic? What's the big fucking deal? I asked where I could find the actual version, not knowing this is the actual version, and then you reply, very ignorantly, calling me an idiot...what's more to talk about? You're just fucking stupid. Eat my gooch you peice of shit.

  • LOL. Calling me ignorant yet you have to throw out insults in order to prove nothing?

Besides that, I called you an idiot simply because you seemed to lack in knowledge that MOST of Dillas stuff is PURELY instrumental.

Yet, you continue to reply to me.

    End of discussion.

  • @CustomBumpMaker most of his stuff is instrumental, but he could still kill some lyrics tho

  • Yea.

    He had some dope rhymes.

  • Another Aries here! R.I.P J Dilla

  • I feel...

    Like...

    idk...

    everythings ...

    just...

    perfect....

at least whenever i hear this...

  • @Pieperson277 i know what ya mean. it's calm.

  • @Pieperson277

    exactly.

  • i was high when i first heard this song, and i felt like i understood everything. Here i am sober and everytime i listen to this song...I feel like i understand...everything...and thats the power of music...R.I.P Dilla...

  • trust me, it was the spirits of the lords who was working through him

  • beautiful

  • anyone know the sample w/a bongo backbeat, lyrics go "You'll still be a friend of mine...",bout 33:55 on the Ame's Shining back OnPoint mixtape?

  • Anyone know if this is sampled or not?

  • dilla kept it hip hop, he always sampled for melodies, the exception being a few joints here and there.

  • I was mistaken he shout em out at the end of the Welcome to detroit album

  • I could be wrong about the outro but his brothers name is Earl for a fact doe

  • He had another brother aside from illa named Earl. He shout em out on Ruff Draft in the outro. One of my many fav beats from this kat. Listen close to the acoustic guitar in the backgound! Homie still the best producer to this day!

  • Rip ...

    On my bday 2...

  • Did he die on your birthday 4 real?

cuz his bday is the day b4 mine.

  • Yea... My b-day is feb. 10th...

    Crazy

    :(

    O.o

  • Aquarius man I guess we Link Mentaly.

  • Another Aquarius...

I think we all naturally like J Dilla.

  • Yea lol

  • I'm an Aries, but this joint hits me in the chest the same. Jay Dee and Baatin back together, Resting In Beats!

  • I think Dilla named it Earl for reference to the Klugh guitar sample. One of my favs from the K.O.B. (King Of Beats)

    RIP Dilla

    Peace...Netm8kr

  • His Bro was Earl....

Oh wait... Someone already said that....

    lol

    screw it...

    yea
