cool stuff. is it possible to shoot slow motion in HD or only SD with the hvx 200? i just got this camera and a firestore drive, and am trying to figure out how to shoot slomo. the guides aren't too clear.
You can't shoot in slow motion mode with the dv tape (for some reason I havent heard of it, mabe the dv tape at that speed breaks apart, who knows). With this camera (Panasonic HVX200) You first have to record in film mode with the hard drive (P2 technology) and then you can make a transfer from the hard drive to the DV tape. (Both on same camera).
Yes, it is by settings, The Panasonic HVX200 is truly awesome. This is only possible thanks to the P2 technology, which is a hard drive that you can insert in this camera. With this you can record at 60 fps. The footage I posted is the exact same straight from the camera, no post editing. But if you want a video even slower, you can use Final Cut pro application to make it look smooth and perfect.
I don't have that application, It would be interesting to try that. Ok, since I'm also interested in finding out if a laptop can be used as a 200 gig P2 card, I'm going to get that program and try it to see what happens, I'll write you back to tell you if it worked.. I think it is a very good solution.

Nice work, I liked it. I thought the part with the three massive buildings was done nicely. Kudos to you and the clouds.

PART 1:
Hey there Chris back,
I appreciate your quick response!
Yeah I spent last 4 days reading all over forums about HVX200. It is definitely great choice.
For me personally, it's quiet expensive gear at this time, right at the moment (2 months fomr now, can be easy purchase).
So I'm thinking of CANON XH A1. I can get it for aprox. $3 K.

PART 2:
I have one big question regarding HVX200, you probably know about ADOBE OnLocation CS3 (before called "Serious Magic DV Rack HD2"),
I heard there are some problems recording via firewire, that HVX200 1080 mode is really something like 1024x1080 (for real),
and 720p is really: 996x720 if i'm not mistaken (maybe slighty different pixel parametrs). Did you tried this? Want to get software?

PART 3 (sorry long message):
Which in long run you don't need expensive P2, but laptop with 7200RPM disk, and voila! 200+ GB to record etc.etc.
What do you think about this solution to record?
cheers.
