I'm still in agreement. "Kind of Blue" is the without a doubt, the finest jazz recording ever. I know its been said time and time again, but if you want to listen to and learn about jazz, this album is the one to begin with. That's right, I said album. (I still have my original album purchase in perfect condition although I did purchase the box set on CD.)
Kind of Blue...Kind of Cool...Kind of Miles. When I was really turning on to jazz (1975-1981), Davis took a six year vacation (to re-discover his art). There is no excuse for my missing his final 10 years (1981-1991) except I probably had lost my mind. Those who disliked this were probably jealous. And I can understand that. When you miss the baddest, coolest, greatest jazz musician ever to walk the earth you've got to get angry at something.
People of Jazz World. I just posted an arrangement of "Just Friends". We would like to hear your comments as this is our first attempt with Jazz. Please click on my link 'alfonsopablo' next to this comment to listen.
Some people are considered "haters" because they recognize that Miles Davis is largely an invention of the media, television most noteably. Miles was more of a fashion statement than a musician. He lived off of Kind Of Blue which he loosely "planed" around Bill Evans' piano style. This is why he called Evans back for the recording session, Bill was basically showing people how to do it. So, he had the good sense to be a Bill Evans fan and to get out of John Coltrane's way. Brilliant!
for most of my life, i taken was a rock and roll drummer by hobby, not avocation, and thus mostly a rock music listener. over the last several years, as i reach my mid 40's, jazz, and particularly miles, has enlightened my musical intellect, and i have become a jazz fan, not only in listening, but in playing. i discovered i may have been born to be a jazz drummer all along, i just never knew it.
Hello to all Miles'fans. If you want to delve into his discography, check out my channel : Miles Davis' discography REVIEW for the first time ever. Cheerio.
Sacred Choral works are my favorite. But I play Kind of Blue on a day-off afternoon, with a glass of Chardonnay, my baby and the breeze. Thank God for Jazz that sounds like the easiest mood of all feels.
Wow, turn the video to 3:58. Coltrane is just playing away and I mean bad as a motherfucker too, and Miles is just back there all nonchalantly looking cool and smokin’ away. That is so damn cool! That look is classic.
Miles with "pianists Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly, drummer Jimmy Cobb, bassist Paul Chambers, and saxophonists John Coltrane and Julian "Cannonball" Adderley" fan-fuckin-tastic.
is it wrong to make love while this cd is playing in the backround.....? i dont thinks so, and the miss dont seem to mind. hehe. RIP MD your still the man.

Thanks God, "El País" spanish newspaper offer this LP , FOR only 7 euros. I collect vynils, but couldn t afford the one of l959, Anyway, I m happy. Miles is at my home.
@Gnocchi you were born in the right time. i say what you say everyday and cry watching the woodstock footage. if you were born then you would probally listen to them, or not, being born in this age now we can look back and say "damn" time to evolve. i wish i was right there with miles when he recorded his tracks.......we will never know. never.
neither was this a classic statement (i think), nor do i feel any relation to the 'poem' you quoted. Maybe i was born indeed much too late, but i simply dont get it.
Authentic Jazz is a movement unique to its cultural and historical circumstamces. The Beatles are far out of there. I dont see the Beatles,
M. Davis, Coltrane, Paker & Gillespie,... fit together.
If you try to answer to my opinion, find another saying that implies that we'll be born again and that we can't choose when!
@Gnocchi I thought I said "reminds me;" I really don't care whether it reminds you of this wonderful poem by a wonderful poet or not, and, owing to your less than friendly reaction, I shall also withdraw the "classic" remark as it is more suited to a person with, how shall we say, "je ne sais quoi."
Its 5:00am and I'm listening to Miles Got Inspiration? Nuff said Reason to listen to Miles Davis: 1.Break up with someone 2.your an artist 3.closing a deal 4.not feeling confident 5.your counting your blessings 6.staying humble 7.you miss somebody 8.dont know what to say 9.You need to feel COOL(different from 4.) 10. If you are looking to find stuff similar to Miles's work on the Net, Cool Jazz is probably not going to help. It is more generally referred to as part of the Modern Jazz era, specifically be-bop or hard bop as mentioned below.

Miles Davis... the 2nd most overrated musician in history. I've always wondered how many ppl actually LIKE this crap, or just like to be with the 'cool kids' and claim they like it. If he were white, nobody would've ever heard of him.
If Obama was any good, he would have brought out a law the day after he got elected - "no playing Miles in elevators, hotel lobbies, or before 11 pm." Miles knew what was so special about after dark, and it's all here on this one album.
Miles is probably wondering what the hell any of you are talking about. Miles was a cat that transcended Jazz for all musicians.Like Jimi Hendrix changing the way the electric guitar was listened to and looked at musically for many, many years.........Just as Miles will be continually talked about for generations way ahead of us. Thanks Miles.
I don't even know why I'm even trying to reason with you. It's clearly a waste of time. When you argue with a fool, from a distance people can't tell who is who.
Have a good one man and continue your treacherous tirades of musical tyranny lol.
Just like Jazz, there is some Rap that people who are rap don't like or follow. It's just like you might like swing vs. bebop and to claim that because you think you heard a little radio play of something that's popular and assume that represents everything is just pure ignorance.
Your wife is black and your daughter is part black and happens to listen to some of today's current artists but that doesn't mean you know anything about rap. What you want a cookie?
Actually it read to be some bs to me that you're probably right, I didn't read the drivel as well as I should have. Wow you can spot an oxymoron....how amazing you can't spot a moron like yourself in the mirror. The premise is the same, regardless. Stare a little harder, maybe the jerk will jump out at you.
First of all, I'm not your HOMIE or HOMEZ. Whatever white man de jour method of spelling it you want to use to excuse your ignorance on the topic.
Second, don't use your black wife and half black child as a shield for being ignorant on a subject. Thirdly, your personal understanding and depiction of rap as an art for is racially offensive and sad.
If you really are married to a black person....well I'll just say, I'm sure she's special, or maybe just very European.
Rap is the cousin to all musical artforms in this country, but jazz in particular where it gets much of its improv style and sense instantaneous creation from.
NO, I mean Rap. Hip Hop is the culture (graffiti, djing, breaking, rapping, fashion)...Rap is just the musical outlet of the culture- the aural action.
Alot of the stuff out there right now being badged as rap is not rap....or just a very crappy ludicrous derivative or just like anything that gets commercialized - a poppy form of the original. It's like the Blues to Elvis...nuff said.

Your reading comprehension skills are as lacking as your taste in music.
I don't have any kids.
My wifes' daughter from her first marriage is black and her daughter is my stepdaughter.
Your reference to "todays' current artists"
is an oxymoron.
Maybe someday you'll wake up and get it.

No need for me to stare any harder,
I'm replying to "the jerk" right now.

I can name at least 10 rap songs to introduce to the person who "doesn't like rap" that will make them question that statement.

Not a snowballs' chance in hell, Homez.
EUROTRASHSPAMMER 2 years ago

You mean hip-hop. Rap is shit.
KillingBosby 2 years ago
NO, I mean Rap. Hip Hop is the culture (graffiti, djing, breaking, rapping, fashion)...Rap is just the musical outlet of the culture- the aural action.
Alot of the stuff out there right now being badged as rap is not rap....or just a very crappy ludicrous derivative or just like anything that gets commercialized - a poppy form of the original. It's like the Blues to Elvis...nuff said.

Rap is bullshit, man.
EUROTRASHSPAMMER 2 years ago
That's cool for your opinion. It just lets me know you haven't listened to that much rap. ....Have you listened to that much jazz either?!?
