WHAT KIND OF TREAT R FEEDING HER FOR REWARD? MY COCKATEIL WONT EVEN EAT OT OF MY HAND. SHE WONT EVEN EAT IF SOME1 IS WATCHING HER. HER FAV TREAT IS CHEERIOS THO
taming can take a while if your not getting one thats hand raised.
To tame your bird you have to hold your bird closley to your chest, and cup your hands over him/her and run your hands down their back like your patting her/him. If he/she tries to climb up, let them, but as soon as they get too high or close to your shoulder grab them GENTLEY and put them where they started. that is called tunneling. i will do a video on it if you want! xx
it took me one day to tame mines.i got her 3 months old like 2 days ago and yesterday no one could get her off the cage.she made my dads hand bleed lol but i tamed her and now she doesnt dare bite
Those tricks, all in all, took less than a month to teach. Ash was fairly shell shocked from whatever she experienced at the pet store, so she took over 9 months to "tame". Thee years later and she still visibly shakes when I get near her aviary.
The couch is in the background, it is about 10 feet away. What a strange comment, but I'm happy to respond. I guess it is a camera effect, I recorded it with the video record feature on a digital camera.
Have you had any luck teaching her words? People say the females are harder to teach to talk but everyone seems to have their own opinion. And yes how did you get her to wave?
You start with the trick "step up" - basically getting your bird to step on your hand from a perch. It can help to have an audible command (I say "step up"). Then start to move your hand ever so slightly away from the perch. Start with a few inches so it is a hop. Make sure to reward this and continue the short movements. Once the bird understands what you expect, then start making the distance greater.
and how come she doesn't fly away? (im not really used to birds, im asking all kinds of things) what is the training you must give her/him so she stays on the finger, shoulder whatever
Ash doesn't fly away because she likes sitting on her perch. When I take her out of her aviary, I put her on that perch and give her treats. She likes to stay there for a long period of time, unless she sees somewhere higher up that she can get to. Birds like to be at a high point(i.e. a shoulder, on your head, ect.). It makes them feel safe.
I started by blowing gently into her face and it forces a reaction like shaking her head 'no'. I kept rewarding her after shaking her head until she didn't need me to force her to do it. I also use a hand signal for the trick (but you can't see that in the video). It took about 2 days of persistent work for her to understand the trick.
ooops, sorry didnt mean to yell :P

That's so adorable! I'm trying to teach my tiel fetch, but we're a bit stuck at being afraid of the props. Oh well, we'll get there eventually!
