  • crowd looks so dead...for how awesome that song was

  • Not many songs stays interesting for 8 min. This does :)

  • one of BTS's very best albums, and that's amazing given they've been around for so long. Awesome music.

  • Found this cd for 50 cents at a thrift store yesterday, such a find.

  • Every damn video of this song I come across I end up adding to my favorites.

  • sonically genius.

  • "Thought it was an alien, turned out to be just god"

The way he says that, it gives me chills

  • So many other bands like Metallica, Pink Floyd, or AFI try to create interesting 8-9 min+ songs that you can stand to listen to all the way through, but for some reason they all fall short and simply beg your finger to hit the skip button. Built to Spill doesn't have this problem. They never get boring no matter how long the song. Every note they play is essential, unlike other bands who just throw in notes to fill an album. A band has to earn the right to play 8-9 minute songs, BTS demands it.

  • the best band in the world!!!!!!

  • Why is the bassist standing behind the projector screen? Is it stage fright?

  • @30Doradus It's the camera angle. If you were down in the crowd he wouldn't appear to be behind it.

  • @30Doradus check your angle. the projector is over Doug

  • @30Doradus well first, he isn't afraid. he has to deal with three guitar players that want the attention. I know the bass player. he just happy to be in the band.

  • Hell of a performance.

    One of my favorite songs.

  • @geridg It's called an Echoplex. It is a echo/tape loop/noise machine. This tour (2006) was the last time Doug used it at a Built to Spill show, to my knowledge (I've seen them 11 times since 2003). He only had it in 2005 and 2006, from what I remember.

  • man the people look dead come on move around. i love this song and even now it's hard just to sit here and just listen ahhhhh buitl to furckin spill

  • ....I don't care why...

    goin gainst yer mind

    goin gainst yer mind

    goin gainst yer mind

    goin gainst yer mind

  • hasnt anyone uploaded the flipping album version by now?

  • love this song but this recording came out too treble-y

  • "Things fall Apart" from "There is no enemy" <3

  • Haha I love how the guy's hiding behind the screen. I think it's the bassist?

  • probably just the angle dude. I think the screen is higher than him and so he's not really hiding from the sight of the audience. looks funny tho, i agree

  • new album is great too.

probably not as good as you in reverse.

but you in reverse is stupid good.

  • Finally saw this song live a couple weeks ago.

    Absolutely amazing.

  • A great band; a perfect song.

  • I got the CD as a gift last week and it's been playing nonstop.

What a strong album. Every song is different but at the same time captures the style BTS is famous for.

Thank God for for this band. We need many more to join the mix instead of trying everything possible to appear on MTV.

Built to Spill managed to find a formula that involves music with heart..... very rare these days.

    Rock On,

    Grinderman

  • Man, he makes that guitar his bitch!

  • this is one of my favorite songs of all time. it is good from beginning to end.

  • Me too. Makes having to take a bus not so bad.

  • this band kicks ass i wish i could have gone to 2 1 of there concerts

  • if you go to their website, you can hear this song studio version

  • but its to bad i cant find one thats not live :(

  • fuggin beautiful

  • love this song...way awesome beats! this band just makes amazing music!

  • O.O EPIC BADASSNES!!!

  • In September, I sat on the stage at Toads in New Haven, CT, 5 feet from Brett Netson. They played this as their encore and Doug said it was no alien, "just our God." I think this is about how our intellect clogs our heart -- no dog, antelope, or anteater dreams up shit like "aliens" (or sub-prime mortgages.) Go against your mind-full-ness, and FEEL the life force; call it God or something else, but let your heart direct traffic. Yes, BTS is the best band in America. (I am 57 years young.)

  • You Rock

  • you are great. I agree with everything youve said, and good for you.

  • the has to have the most amazing rhythm to keep this beat for 8 minutes

  • haha omg i gonna see built to spill again and they are playing keep it like a secret ,

    f00king hell yaya early christmas!

car and goin against your mind ill be set for life! hahah damn this will be unbelievabale!

  • ahhhh, i wish they would have played this, when i saw them in Minnesota on June 6th....they still played a massive amount of amazing songs...well shit, i guess all their songs are amazing...i've got the whole set from Minneapolis, on my page, just click my name....

  • "Maybe the best band now with Arcade Fire"... non bestemmiamo per favore, i Built To Spill sono 15.000 volte meglio (better than) Arcade Fire.. o "Cacate Fire" (as we say in Italy).

  • someone said "more people should like this band!!" They were right!!

  • Maybe the best band now (with Arcade Fire). P.O.

  • even just watching in my living room, i try to keep still once he comes in with the vocals. cant do it. this music rocks too hard to keep still.

  • This is my favourite song, thank you for this video.

  • first song i ever heard by them. big fan now. who does the art work for bts? does any one know of any shows comming up like in the north east or anywere close to mass any good bands?

  • Mike Scheer does the illustrations; same guy who did stuff for Doug back in the Treepeople days.

  • meat puppets fuckin sucked

  • c'mon.

  • BTS fans get the Meat Puppets as an opening act!(on the road now) Don't miss them ..what a lineup !

  • gosh whats the rush!? they are playing it a lot faster than the album version

  • they wrote the fucking song. they can play it however they want

  • i shook hands with mr. martsch after a show in NYC and he was very gracious with me. i said the show made me a fan whereas before i didnt know the group too well.

  • what does he have in the chair. I know it's an effects box of some kind, but anyone know what he's using??????

  • it's an echo effect. i'm not sure the exact type, but it's one of the older large tape-style models.

  • cool, tks

  • @loudlikewhoa sweet. love these guys. so laid back and just love to enjoy playing music. Also love the philosophic take on life DM writes with.

  • @geridg It's called an Echoplex. It is a echo/tape loop/noise machine. This tour (2006) was the last time Doug used it at a Built to Spill show, to my knowledge (I've seen them 11 times since 2003). He only had it in 2005 and 2006, from what I remember.

  • @geridg it's an echoplex

  • @geridg 3 years late but i'm pretty sure it's a roland re 201

  • do i dare say that this is one of the greatest songs ever written?

  • sprite is awesome, and you could be onto something, it could be one of the greatest songs ever written

  • yes, but this live version is quite horrible...

  • just the recording quality.

  • crazy talk! It's awsome!!!!!!!!

  • **claps hands emphatically** Brilliant...Brilliant!!

  • DANG! Built To Spill is the awsomeist!

  • great song

  • fuck...what an awesome song

    Either live or album

  • you know... it may sound crazy, but the impossibility of the idea aside I would love to marry this song and make babies with it.

  • lol it is an awesome song...

  • put the album version on a headphone, close your eyes and at 6.13 a guitar smashes your head.

great song and great live- band, especially when playing with three guitars.

  • i don't see how the people in the front row were not moving

  • no joke! I saw them twice last tour and both times the rail and like 4 security guards were between BTS and I. If I went to a show where I was leaning on stage Id just say "Fuck it" and kiss Doug in a totally straight way

  • jesus. had to pause the video and catch my breath

  • Looks like his echoplex was giving him some trouble at the beginning there. those things are cool, but such pains in the ass.

  • Gotta love the guitar in this song!

  • I saw this friday at Primavera Sound. One of my favourite gigs, and this song was my best moment at the festival. Wonderful, amazing, i've no words...

  • excellent, saw them in Winterthur last night... ( thats in switzerland ) this song was the highlight. . .

  • simply wonderfuuul. This is live music in his Essence!

  • loved it.

  • amazing.
