Hey, I think this man has a good point saying that the size of the head, or more specific the brain, has something to do with intelligence, but the structur of the brain is also important. Sence the human brain has a very effective structur, means that a big brain with this structure have the potensial to be the most effective in most cases. (sorry for bad english)

But if it was a sarcastic remark, then i will tell you that what they were referring with the word head was the brain. "Use your head/brain." And there is another thing. It is not exactly the size of the brain but the ratio of the volume of the brain to the volume of the spinal cord that determines the level of intelligence among vertebrates.

wow, for a man with a 195 IQ he sure is stupid. Of course there is a correlation between brain size and intelligence across species, but the FACT is that there is not within species. Within species the only thing that matters is how well the receptors in the brain works. What an arrogant fuck.
Actually it's way more complicated than that. Recent studies show that there are highways through the brain of large width (impulses of which are therefore fast traveling) axons. Smarter people tend to have thicker nerves and therefore faster impulses. Apart from that there is also a correlation between brain size (adjusted for body size) though for women it seems to be less true (r=.3 for women as opposed to r=.5 for men) ...I have no idea why. Much more will probably be discovered.

There is absolutely zero documented proof of a correlation, the supposed correlation is absolutely meaningless, there are other factors that are way more important. The easiest way to disprove this assertion that bigger head = greater intelligence, is to look at the past great minds, their head sizes were incredibly average (and even small some times).

In the book The Mismeasure of Man, Gould named some men of eminence (Gauss, Einstein etc.) who were average or slightly above average at best, but phrenology/craniometry fans just don't give in so easily. There is no plausible reason to think there is only across species or only "within species" correlation, it's pure speculation. And you pin-pointed brain receptors as the only significant thing (which by itself is a bold statement), but don't other species possess some kind of brain receptors (that might make a difference) too?

The whole idea of "intelligence" needs redefining. If you look back in history, lets say in medicine, what once may have been a single term for a wide range of ailments believed to be one thing has split into many more specific terms describing more specific conditions, as we have advanced our understanding.
Intelligence is not a linear scale between "smart" and "dumb". A standardized IQ test is virtually meaningless. There is a huge variety of styles of thought and intelligence.
A bigger head doesn't necessarily imply greater intelligence. There is something called Body to head ratio. The size of the brain in regards to the size of the organism determines intelligence capability. Human: 1:50, Whales: 1:2000

Having said that I think there are more factors contributing to high intelligence(depends on how this is defined) , but one being size. What has more power, a V8 or V6 or I4 engine? It could depend on the design and inputs. This still does not mean size is irrelevant. Look up glial cells and nuerons and dont be so quick to feel confirmed and smug. ;-)

@alexcaymans If you are talking about the "Are Whales The World’s Biggest Brainiacs?" article, that article didn't assert that whales are more intelligent than humans, and it also didn't say that they were of equal or higher intelligence of a different kind, it just poses the question. In this video, Chris is talking about differences in sizes between human brains, which is much smaller than 5X, then he uses other species to support his conjecture, which is absurd.

@FootBaller240 that might mean you have a lot of padding and glioma cells in your brain, but that doesn't mean hit yourself in the head with a brick. It could also mean that most of your brain is devoted to other things, or you haven't spent the time to learn and develope that extra brain. If you play a musical instrument, them you could add more dentrites to your neurons and it might help. I'll I can say is, give 100% at everything and see what you're good at.

@staples341534 There is some scientific validity to the their when applied to humans. ScienceDaily posts references to research on head size vs intelligence a few times a year. Some studies validate while others refute the idea. Also, you are absurdly jumping to conclusions to assume he is referring to humans.

I may be mistaken but reading other people's postings has led me to the impression that Chris himself believes his ideas are too smart to be understood. The IQ difference between Chris and the average man is roughly comparable to a 23 year old speaking with a 4 year old.

wow, for a man with a 195 IQ he sure is stupid. Of course there is a correlation between brain size and intelligence across species, but the FACT is that there is not within species. Within species the only thing that matters is how well the receptors in the brain works. What an arrogant fuck.

Actually it's way more complicated than that. Recent studies show that there are highways through the brain of large width (impulses of which are therefore fast traveling) axons. Smarter people tend to have thicker nerves and therefore faster impulses. Apart from that there is also a correlation between brain size (adjusted for body size) though for women it seems to be less true (r=.3 for women as opposed to r=.5 for men) ...I have no idea why. Much more will probably be discovered.

@Ryebreads I'm aware that it's way more complicated but how am I gonna fit even a fraction of a more precise explanation in a youtube comment? There is absolutely zero documented proof of a correlation, the supposed correlation is absolutely meaningless, there are other factors that are way more important. The easiest way to disprove this assertion that bigger head = greater intelligence, is to look at the past great minds, their head sizes were incredibly average (and even small some times).

In the book The Mismeasure of Man, Gould named some men of eminence (Gauss, Einstein etc.) who were average or slightly above average at best, but phrenology/craniometry fans just don't give in so easily. I'm also recommending to big head/brain idolizers to read something about macrocephaly, megalencephaly etc.

@MarcBeckK Marc you were clumsy here: if there is a correlation across species, than whales, elephants etc. are more intelligent than we're, but you knew that before. There is no plausible reason to think there is only across species or only "within species" correlation, it's pure speculation. And you pin-pointed brain receptors as the only significant thing (which by itself is a bold statement), but don't other species possess some kind of brain receptors (that might make a difference) too?

@mujotomi Regarding correlation, one even can't say it doesn't exist (within species), if he doesn't have statistical data. It can exist, but the question is whether it's significant (+/-) or not, and even then you can't necessarily infer the cause-effect relationship between variables...

Azimov was big on that... it's the exact right combination of brain to body that makes it work slightly differently than a normal human. The whole idea of "intelligence" needs redefining. If you look back in history, lets say in medicine, what once may have been a single term for a wide range of ailments believed to be one thing has split into many more specific terms describing more specific conditions, as we have advanced our understanding.
Intelligence is not a linear scale between "smart" and "dumb". A standardized IQ test is virtually meaningless. There is a huge variety of styles of thought and intelligence.

A bigger head doesn't necessarily imply greater intelligence. There is something called Body to head ratio. The size of the brain in regards to the size of the organism determines intelligence capability. Human: 1:50, Whales: 1:2000
