Marines are trained by the Army. When it's play-play sword fighting some dragons on a mountain commercial, call in the Marines. When it's some no-shiit serious, end-of-the-world, National Security sh'ite, call out the standard bearers -- the U.S. Army. As any Marine should know, you're not really a true Marine 'til you've been to an Army school and trained by the real professionals. When you can't train your own people, you're just amateurs.
I humped one of those Guns all over Afghanistan & Iraq, In your gun teams does the gunner carry the Cannon and the Biopod or was that just us paratroopers being well us.
How about a little motivation! This must be the Army. If my mortar section acted like this pathetic bunch of pogues I would have run them till they puked. 0341! Semper Fi!
on a serious note, im a marine mortarmen for 9 years now, this is by far the absoulte worst gun squad/mortar section i have ever seen. hello people, we fire these rounds to support our infantry brothers up close in the fight and in harms way. with that in mind, where is the sense of urgency, accuracy and effects on target? maybe these guys dont care if our people get killed. it doesnt matter if it is just training. if this is how YOU train, this is how YOU fight. you soldiers suck.
I am in the ARMY and also a 11C i have been to m lock. this is the worst team even if u were just put together. Being a 11c means u can work with any other 11c. and the plt sgt is a wack.
thirdly, they're supposed to be firing for effect (FFE)... way too slow... if there were troops in contact (tic) they would have been pissed off at how slow these guys are. Its ridiculous. We train like we fight, hard, ruthless, effective....not slow... this is just one more reason why the marines get the job done......and we get the job done far more efficiently and far better... plus we're just hard asses.
these guys really don't know what they were doing. I am a marine.... a trained mortarman, with over six years in the marine corps...active duty. I have served in iraq, when there was actual combat to experience. for one, the gunner should be holding the bipods, secondly.... they are using a training/ practice round...that's just gay.
@jlanier2012 I don't see any reason to need to hold the bipod legs with the exeption of having a higher elevation before the baseplate is settled other then that you should be fine. Also all we could get was the training rounds. You should deploy to Afghanistan it would make you miss Iraq. I have been to both.
@jlanier2012 they dont need to hold the bipod legs the baseplate is already settled and the elevation isnt high enough or low enough to even worry about the legs jumping out. I'm a 60mm section sergeant in the army, and these dudes your right are terrible....but thats a National Guard patch....so I'm not suprised...
@jlanier2012 You are a Marine. This is ARMY. Things are done differently in the ARMY. I was in both the Marines.... then ARMY. You would be surprised how different the two are.
@jlanier2012 maybe they are no-go's getting introduced to mortars. i was in mi in the regulars years ago and they had us out there learning to use mortars, hmg and , you will love this, the m-67 90 mm. stuff we didnt get in basic or a.i.t.....for these guys it may be their one and only training on it. dont know how they do things today.

the biggest actual "mortar round" is 120mm. I believe a 600mm round would blow a tank to oblivion. Also, the big cannons are a totally different MOS. This is 11C. Field Artillery is 13B I think.
How boot was the gunner?

gotta train before you can fight.
experts were trained and then trained some more.
2nd shot, wait for him to HANG AND CONFIRM before telling him to fire.
you gave the order to hang, he copied WHILE he was hanging it and then you told him to fire before he had actually hung it.
we gotta remember that sometimes our guys are just blindly repeating what we're saying.
we have to control and master the situation to prevent negligent occurences.
