  • Hi, perhaps you can help, ive got the 2tb elements play model and a mate uploaded 1000+ movies in singapore for me, im wondering if there are places in the uk i can get more movies uploaded on to it, my mate gave some guy at a stall $100 (AUS) to do it. I live in Leeds and wondering if anywhere will have loads of movies on their PC and can upload me some at a price. anyone know anywhere or even if dodgey places like that exist? cheers

  • capacity?

  • For those with a PC remove the drive and use it internally connecting by SATA, you will get a much faster performance. Inside the case is a 3.5" WD Caviar Green SATA II 1.5 TB hard drive model WDC WD15EARS, you don't need any fancy tools, I used a kitchen knife and a Phillips screwdriver, of course you will loose any warranty. Bottom line is USB sucks and is slow, SATA II is much faster. This youtube video shows you how to do it. xxx.youtube.com/watch?v=PwQu37T1a50

  • You say yours is 5400RPM but mine 7200RPM. All other references on the net cite 7200RPM as well. You sure yours is 5400RPM? Mine also doesn't have a fan. Glad it didn't come with backup software that they may have charged more for, since I use Time Machine which comes with OS X, and on linux the free rsync utility.

  • We all see how it looks smart one.Tell me how to make a back up for this ????

  • I hate WD Elements I bought mine 2 month ago and now it wont work. These Hard Drives are Shit Never Buy A WD

  • this one sucks

  • who really needs 1000gb?

  • @varachack A person that has a lot of porn!

  • Mine has broke down after a motnth since i bought it. It wasn't used a lot, just copied on all my data and then watched some movies on it. It was almost brand new and now i've lost all my data.....

    Be careful what you buy.

  • so does this thing work? do you still got it? the only thing i want outta this thing is that it does what its supposed to do and lasts.

  • @JosephCee My elements still works since i got it last year. But the thing is that i only use it when i need to store stuff on it, other than that it's off and unplugged most of the time.

  • the focus on your bed sheet is perfect, nice review though :)

  • @ibarix ^ thanks for the support. Lol there's really not much i can do with the focus, the flip ultra HD has NO macro or focus options.

  • Ti si dečko budala ... da ima sjajan finiš i sa strane mat to sam mogao i u prodavnici da vidim majmune!

  • lol you sound black at parts of the video

  • Broke down on me like 6 weeks after i bought it...

  • ok does anyone know whats wrong with mine..it use to work properyl on my PC and my PS3 but now when i plug it into one of them Nothing comes up atall:s i cant even get on it to put my save files on or anything else.

  • @Nathan11661 when u plug it into ur ps3 it can read it cause im thinking of buying one of these and im hoping i dont have to download any extra things please respond a.s.a.p!!!!

  • My old man gonna buy this . Can it play PS3 games ?

  • @mrd0nlov3 It's a hardrive. It can't play games.

  • @mrd0nlov3 MORON

  • @Supramna92557 Asshole

  • @mrd0nlov3 Dick Rider

  • @Supramna92557 Cock sucker =))

  • @mrd0nlov3 Jizz lover

  • is this noisy?

  • in belgium 1tb 89euro 1.5tb 90euro so i obv got the 1.5tb one

  • @barirdeeee2 wow, it's crazy how some retailers price the capacity. over in the uk £41 for 1tb. 1.5tb is £45

  • @PatrickStreeter its crazy the small difference between a huge deal

  • I got one a couple days ago, it is my first ever hard drive :D I was wondering if it's good for a first hard drive. I don't use it much but I recently backed up my PC on it and I have plenty of space left :D 1.15TB to be exact :) So yea, is it good for a first? Thanks!

  • Comment removed

  • You're so cute "and activity light is on the back which don't make sense." haha :-P Very informative video, thank you!

  • buklao!

  • i just brought one of these just awhile ago i hope its a good external hard drive for backing up files. although ive seen a few comments from others sayin how they've had problem which isnt good. But im also seeing that ppl have had no problems with it and it works a treat. So im just hoping the one i get is in good condition and it work perfectly fine with no problems and it stay like that.

  • i guess they have it at the back so its not always flashin in your face maybe. coz you get some that are always flashin in your face, gets real annoyin

  • It isnt slow!! you have to format it to NTFS !

  • does it work without power supply?

  • @MaxAsL No it requires a power supply. If you want the version that doesn't require a power supply then get the 2.5" version.

  • @MaxAsL you could hack open it and manually hook power from your pc ;D - this way you dont need to use an adapater

  • Does it overheat hot enough to melt the plastic ??

  • @elzouain It hasn't happened to me yet and i owned this hard drive for over a year now. Yes it does get warm but it doesn't get dangerously hot like you mentioned.

  • @buklao Really ?? Thanks for replying my comment. I was hesitating in the checkout page at Amazon.

  • DTS==>stereo???????

  • @2009vox DTS generally is better than stereo if your hard ware can support it.

  • my 2tb makes a bit of purring, or gurgling sound when writting files. there aren't any clicks, just a gurgling/purr (i dont think it's the motor that is purring)

  • @HeadShot360IN I know what you mean, as long as it doesn't click then it should be fine.

  • @buklao how long have you had this ? and since youv owned this has it worked perfectly fine ?!

  • @buklao, please reply. I just bought this on Amazon. Can you leave it always connected to the computer or do you have to do the "Safely eject" thing everytime you shut down the computer? Or instead, do you only plug it in when you need to use it?

  • @HeadShot360IN disc's rpms :D

  • Can I use it instead of local hard drive as a default and how does it work power? or only usb port?:)

  • @realjuvelive You can use it as a default but it will be really slow. This hard drive is powered by the power supply that you would need to plug in the back. If you need to see the power supply, please check out the unboxing video i put up.

  • u hav that type of voice reviewers and lp'ers have u shud do mor of these

  • Manufacturers cuts cost on everything therefore the activity light is located at the same side as the connectors. If they put it at the front then they have to route it across and it costs more.

  • sorry y bros being retarded and wont tell me how to put the music on my ipod if anyone nows any videos that tell how to do so please let me know a.s.a.p thanks

  • i am looking to store my music and pc game saves, this should be good enough.

  • @SpartanVo7 Yes it will be enough, that's how i use my external. Primarily for storage and backup uses only.

  • Nice Review .

  • @TheKevinvdBurg Thanks for the support!

  • i have 2 of these, 2tb versions..... great drives. slow, but still fast enough to play 1080p hd rips without issues, so obviously its perfect also for photos and music storage. the basic shit.

also i just wanna mention dude, you should really try avoiding moving hard drives around when they're on and especially when the head is moving as it did when ya plugged it in. really risky shit, especially with these huge multi-plate hard drives.

  • @Clusterfuck66 Thanks for the tip, I'll try to not move it from now on. Rookie mistake on me XD

  • @Clusterfuck66 I was thinking of getting one of these to store all my Wii games and play them off there do you think the speed would be an issue?

  • Hey guys, i need your help. I HAVE A 320gb WD Eliments same as that with a smaller cap. The cord has rusted out (2.0) and i want to know what the cord is called (and how much in AUS $) so i can buy a new one?

  • @The5ave1 It looks like any "mini USB to USB cable" would work.

  • My WD doesn't get recognised by my pc (before it worked ok, a bit slow, but ok). How do I fix this problem? Please anyone a solution?!

  • @DAGG idk you probly have the same problem as me witch the cord has rusted out.

  • @The5ave1 A good theorie, except the machine is fairly new. I only have it for 3 months or so. I don't think it occurs that fast, do you? Thanks for your suggestion! Do you know where I could find a new cord?

  • @DAGG i think maby a computer shop. Im getting one tomorrow at dicksmith (australia) i dont know where you live so idk

  • You sound like Don Cheadle

  • Is WD compatible with the wii? ex for usb loader?

  • @kutu111 As long as you have the hard drive formatted correctly, you should be able to. I don't know too much about hacking wii's but i seen it done with a WD mybook before.

  • yep I have the exact same hard

  • yeah i taped this thing to my wii.

  • I just bought one of these, and when i plug it into the ps3 it doesn't come up. do u know how i can fix this

  • @krumpcez did you format your hard drive to FAT32?

  • @buklao nope, when i go and format it, its either NTFS OR exFat,.

  • @krumpcez I'm assuming your using windows 7 or vista, you should download this free program called partition wizard. It's a free program that let you work with partitions and it will let you format to FAT32 even if you cant through windows partition tools.

  • @buklao ok thank you

  • What is the power supply like?

  • @liaminabox It's a ordinary plug, on one end you have a small plug that goes on the back of the hard drive and on the other end, you have a wall outlet plug. If you want to see what it looks like, please check out my unboxing video of this product!

  • nice review pal, I was about to buy a iOmega, but you changed my mind

  • i thought i had usb 2 but im only getting an 11.6MB/sec its taken an hour and a half to copy 65 gig of music off my new wd elements 1.5

  • I really don't understand why all these products have the mirrored/shiny surface now. I guess everyone's trying to appeal to those that like the Apple aesthetic. But I want just the matte. I'm having a hard time finding a printer and hard drive that's all matte. :-X

  • Thanx for the review. Personally I like the activity light on the back of the unit. Heck Apple machines don't even have an activity light and everyone seems to get along just fine.

  • I just bought a new WD 2TB Elements from Newegg and I am in the process of transferring 460GB but for some reason, the transfer rate feels really slow and the response time of the HD is slow as well compared to my WD 500 GB My Book. My question is, how does your WD Elements perform? I suspect that the version I bought only has a 8MB Buffer and is 5400 RPM. Can you confirm this? I looked all over the web and could not find any specifications for it

  • @hyperxazn My transfer rates are somewhat slow, around 25-26mb/s. You also have to keep in mind that your running off USB 2.0 connectivity, which maxes out at 30 MB/s. I don't know the specs of your hard drive, if you can find out what model number your external hard drive is, i might be able to help.

  • @buklao The model number is WDH1U5000N. It was transferring around 23MB/s but it slowed down to 18.3MB/s.

  • thanks. good review!

  • great review, and great point about the heat and the performance, the only problem (that you obiously noticed) it's the focus sometimes. Anyway, thanks!

  • can you use this for time machine?

  • @UKiNiNaMx808x Yes, you can use this for time machine.

  • GREAT REVIEW!

  • I have a lot of video files in Pal, will it play on NTSC TV?

  • for your first review thats awesome man!

  • Through review - Great honest review!

  • mine is like yours but it's only 1tb and not 1.5tb

  • what hp is that?

  • @meerak87 HP DM3 1130-US

  • Thank you for your review. It is extremely helpful to those of us who are shopping for a product that we understand only on a very basic level. (That's me!) At the same time, I'm the type of person to research, research, research and get as many details on anything major I purchase, especially when it's something within a world of technology that I comprehend only on an amateur level. (at this point at least!) . So, I bought this before i saw your review & I'm happy to learn u find it's quality!

  • @islandsq ur not the only person

  • Hey, i have a macbook and am just looking for a drive mainly for storage only. I know WD has different models, can anyone give me their opinions on the best ones. So far from what i can tell Elements get the highest reviews. Their mybooks do look nicer though. what should i invest in?

  • lol elements the lowest thing of WD? are you kidding me? My book the best thing? it's the worst thing, elements is a solid and if it falls on the ground it does not brake, my book is dead if it hits something, my book has loud fans, a lot of system failures and elements doesn't have this failures

  • @glazuna What i meant was WD Elements was lowest in features and performance compared to the other drives, this was based off the information i got on thier website. I have to agree with you, the elements is a better drive and i own both mybook and elements.

  • @buklao Been having this same external hard drive for 11months and on Nov 25th will mark the 1 year I bought it... anyway, I don't know why each I shut down my computer the computer keep telling me to format the external hard drive. Sometimes I get the parameter is incorrect. Checking the sensor will not work since my computer will not access it even if it shows F drive for it.

  • @buklao nevermind, I fixed it... I had to use unlock assistant to get rid of the error. not sure why the error keep coming up because I was told that the error only shows up if I tried to copy something onto it over 3gb if the text or whatever is typed wrong but I copied the files completely and not sure why it shows that error.... It only shows that error if I unplug the external hard drive.

  • @buklao yes but mybook has 1 with 3.0 usb but it doesn't have 32mb of hardrive cache, but elements has if you buy the right version as me, otherwise you have 8mb, so my book has max 8mb of hardrive cache with USB 3.0 so it's the same at performance as mine 32mb of cache and 7200RPM with USB 2.0

  • Hey, how quite is it when it's idle, like when it's on, but not transferring files?? I'm debating about buying WD because I heard soo many bad reviews about the company, but suprizingly this hard drive in partiuclar has only GOOD reviews.

  • @detroitMC313 It's very quiet on idle, when it's on it make alittle noise but not so much it will bother you. I've owned this for 10 months now, i also have a mybook that i bought 2 years ago that still works, i haven't had any problems with WD hard drives.

  • @buklao has any data on this hard drive corrupted or has the drive stopped working? i want to buy a reliable and safe external thanks.

  • @detroitMC313 I HATE Western Digital DON'T BUT IT. I've had two of their external hard drives - a 2 TB Elements (seen above) and a My Book 500 GB. The 2TB failed and the 500 GB My Book literally has to stay on my desk, because if I move it or even turn it on an angle, it doesn't work. Get anything else (I recommend a Seagate), because Wester Digital SUCKS.

  • @pipersecretp3 ohhhh thanks... lol. I posted that a while ago and I actually did end up going with a Seagate Free Agent Go Flex 1 TB, and it works great. Hopefully it stays that way.

  • Great review buklao. honest and informative. good stuff

  • what is the name song first??

  • Good review

  • @ustwats Thanks for the support!

  • Comment removed

  • @buklao how good is this for backing up your system? all i want is something that will store my data and i think this is perfect!! speed is not an issue, I just want to make sure that if my raid 0 array fails i will have all my data safe =) thanks like the vid alot!!

  • @blowupuate13 It's good, i've done many backups and i had no problems with it. Thanks for your support!

  • i like the intro video !

  • @fefethepilot The song is called: Da Fresh - Yesterday

  • really good review.

hoping to order the 1tb version

  • enjoyed your review, bro. I'm thinking about picking one of these up from microcenter here in ny for $99 this week. i'm just gonna use it to hook up with my desktop to host downloaded movies, tv, etc to play on my netbook and what not around the house. i already use a 500gb usb 2.0 seagate for this and it seems to be fine. on a nostalgia note - first hd i bought back in the day (1998) was a WD 40gig and it's still working damn fine. it's probably been in and out of 6+ desktops since then, haha.

  • @anomalousclouds Thanks! Nice lol, i agree WD hard drives last along time. I've only owned 2 WD hard drives, this and 320GB Mybook and both work great to this day!

  • considering 1TB version.

  • Although the drive itself spins only at 5400rpm it is still capable of read/write speeds exceeding 100MB/s. But the real speed limitation is in the USB which can physically cannot do better than 30MB/s and in cases when transferring smaller files this speed drops to only few MB/s. So if you want a fast external hard drive buy a case that support Firewire 800 or ESATA. So, buying MyBook, 7200rpm drive, … if only USB 2.0 interface is supported it can not work faster as this one.

  • hey man... can you help me?... im having a hard time trying to play WDelements on my DVD player...oud DVD has a USB port but it doesnt recognize it...do i have to download anything?... pleas help me... if you know...thank you...

  • The WD Element Series ist just perfect when you are looking for a simple, well build, affordable ext. harddrive. Nothing special, it just works. I personally really don't want anything more when I plug in a harddrive :-D.

  • Thank you for this excellent review. I've decided to buy the 2TB version because of it.

Can you tell me how long the USB cable that comes with the drive is?

Also, will the 5400 RPM speed prevent me from playing HD videos off of the drive? What if I install a game to the drive? Would it run slowly because of the slow drive speed?

  • it comes NTFS out of the box, it's basically the standard now. But you can also change it if you like, you can format it to either NTFS or fat32 when you right click on the drive in my computer.

  • is it fat32 or ntfs

  • I like this hard drive does the job very cheap I'm taking all my hard drives and putting them on here...

Also I noticed that going on the net and opening pages were fast so easy to copy while you browse

I like the video he tells a true story so thanks for taking the time

  • Thanks for the review...I am considering buying this drive mainly to store movies...I want to make sure it has no problem playing back the movies...is it easy to organize files, any over-heating issue etc...or anything that I should pay attention to...

    Thank you for your help...

  • @JumboZebo There's no problems with playback, it runs normal. Since there's no fancy programs or firmwares, you organize your files how you normally do and the hard drive runs fairly cool.

  • 1:41 Slick... black... shit is nice. CHAD WARDEN!

  • nice review buddy

have watched your review yesterday and I decided to buy it today

and waiting for it maybe till tomorrow

    thanks once again buddy =D

  • @VanNelleX Thanks! Did you receive your hard drive yet?

  • @buklao

    yo buklao

in 3 hours I will pick up that baby

actually I could do it yesterday but I didnt notice the email from the store =D

  • excellent review. by far the most thorough i have seen in a while.

  • @captainmorgan789 Thanks! I try to give the most detailed information i can in my reviews. I will be posting more reviews soon, but thanks for the feedback!

  • I have one question - do you have to connect the HD to a power outlet also to use it or just connect to laptop/pc via USB? thanks!

  • @munawarmahmood You need have both the power cable and usb cable plugged in for it to be able to work. I know there's a smaller size elements drive that only uses usb but doesn't get up to 1.5TB capacity.

  • Good review, very helpful.

Would you recommend this to someone that would constantly have it hooked up to play music and games etc. If not what would be a good one for that kind of use?

  • @8rsEVO You can use it to listen to music. But as far as gaming, like what type of gaming you do? If its like real pc games with online and all that i wouldn't recommend because this hard drive runs on usb and it would read very slow. This hard drive is mostly for archiving files and won't run quickly to run applications or games.

  • What it means? Is it not possible to delete/erase unqnted files? Is it only for archiving?

  • @buklao

I consider getting my self one of these, would you recommend this one for a simple external storage device? I won't use the drive for constant activity, but mainly for archiving files and such (it won't read/write/erase all the time) until it fills the available space.

  • @johnwx777 I would recommend it because mine still runs fine ever since i got it and i also use it just for archiving. It's quiet and doesn't get hot when its on and in use.

  • @buklao I just want to back up my files then put it back in it's box and probably store it in my closet. I'll probably unpack it to put the newer stuff from my computer into it every couple of months, would that be cool? I don't know a lot about external hard drives and I keep coming across people saying that they are breaking after a few months.

  • @TruZer0 Yea that would work fine, the only ways that i know that this hard drive would break is by physically dropping it or using it all the time constantly reading and writing or you got a defective unit. Other than that you should be fine, i haven't had any problems with this hard drive ever since i got it.

  • Excellent review and unboxing video.

Shame they used a glossy finish on the sides of the unit, however the majority of the enclosure is matte which should prevent most scratches/fingerprints.

Subscribed. Looking forward to your next hardware review.

  • @theunreademail Just bought this hard drive today and love it. It acts as a stand for my pen holder.

  • Whats the CACHE? im lookin into but it dosent Say

  • @QUECHUL0 i believe it 8MB however considering it's USB 2.0 it doesn't matter. Also the MyBook (with USB 2.0) has the same speed as this element drive (even though it's hard drive is faster the USB2.0 architecture bottle knecks it even the 5400RPM (slower) WD element drive.

  • Thanks homes

  • do more review *subscribe*

  • Thanks Alex. You helped me decide on 1 of these. Actually, I like the light on the back. Less light pollution in the room where it resides plugged into an iomega iconnect plugged into a wifi router. It’s a basic backup store for me.

  • @Parewanui Thanks for watching and supporting me! I'm glad i was able to help and let me know how the hard drive is when you get it.

  • Hi, buklao!

Could you please post a benchmark or a stress test of this disk?

Thank you and have a good day :)

  • Hi, buklao :)

Could you please post a benchmark o a stress test of this disk?

I would appreciate it so much :)

    Bye :)

  • @sleeping88 Like i said in the video i did benchmark the hard drive with HD Tune, if you want i could upload the pic to show you the benchmarks. I won't stress test this hard drive because i don't want to damage it.

  • does it have to be connected by plug or is that just the first time you use it

  • @04mg2 Both the USB cable and power cable needs to be connected to the external hard drive for it to be able to work.

  • Thanks for the review! I'm looking to buy a 1-2TB external hard drive right now, so this was very helpful. :)

  • Thanks for the review man! I was wondering how long the cables were and couldn't find proper info anywhere. From your video, I can see that they are *pretty long*, and that's really all I wanted to know =) I've owned nothing but 2,5" external drives so far which all seem to have tiny cables, so, I had no idea what to expect on cable length for a 3,5" drive. And nice laptop btw! What's the model?

  • @hathiphnath Thanks! I don't know exactly how long the cables are but ill try to get a measurement later this week. The laptop i got is a HP DM3 1130-US model, i still gotta post the unboxing and review of this laptop.

  • can you drag and drop files onto it and can you format it to ntfs to transfer files bigger than 4gb, its a nice price for 1.5tb so is it better than the western digital my book which i currently have, 500 gb but i need a new one cause i think that one is about to give out, being dropped so many times and a number of other things, lol

  • @lovelydiva06 Yes, the elements drives are drag and drop, there's no need for anything special. Also its pre-formatted to NTFS on default so you don't have to worry.

Comparing this drive to the my book, i owned both and its pretty much the same in my opinion but the elements is much quieter. Hope this helps out :]

  • no, no i'm just amazed at technology now a days, THANKS!
