@NevadaWrangler: If I hadn't been a Star Trek fan, I probably would not have gone to see JJ Trek because it looked too plastic from the trailers, reminding me a bit too much of many of the "we're calling it sci fi but its really just action" movies from the past decade. :/ I miss the glacial-paced movies. Nobody makes a 2001:ASY or ST:TMP anymore, and anytime I say I /like/ and /prefer/ those movies, I get naysayed by folk who consider them absolute bad movies no one would watch. :/
Also the 'pillars of creation' as a backdrop is still totally accurate even if they have long ago dissipated. The Eagle nebula (where they reside(ed)) lies 6,000 light years away. The view seen here is taken from the vantage point of the Earth so if the Columbia were cruising anywhere in the vicinity of the Sol system you would still see them as they appear today, that is, 6,000 years ago. It will be centuries before any changes in their structure are visible at this position in space.
Very nice job. listening on earphones I like the low rumble as it glides by. And the saucer/engineering connecting dorsal actually makes a lot more structural sense in this design.
Not Bad space out the nacelles some more, raise the saucer section some, and flush out the secondary hull. Slightly elongating the saucer section wouldn't hurt.
Hey I'm a fan of TOS and the original motion pictures when I say this..... My favorite Enterprise is the A model from 4,5,and 6, and the refit from 1,2,and 3 is a close runner up in my opinion. But everyone who hates the new starships just think about this one thing for a second.................... If you had no knowledge of the trek universe before seeing this starship, then what would think think? Or to put it another way, take your personal bias for TOS out and judge it as a ship.
The NEW ship redesign is GAUDY, Like looking at a bow legged cow rather that a graceful eagle. JJ Abrams is a punk for bastardizing the design with bloated BS
It may be new style but its original through and through. I hate the new warp nacelles They are gaudy looking to me beyond that I could get used to the flow of the new designs. Like was mentioned in the latest movie," this is an alternate timeline" we are exploring here so I am willing to give some leave. It will never replace the TOS and TOS movie line of ships but may in time become a valued addition to a long standing franchise.
Better lighting than the movie stylistically. The only real problem with the new design is that the nacelles should have been 'back heavy' rather than front, and less ergonomic. More straight lines and that way round they'd have better beauty and angle shots. But otherwise it's nice to see the old saucer to main structure ratio back.
WHY does everyone hate this style? Honestly? It's not that bad, and if Star Trek had never existed, you'd all probably be slavering over these ships. The only negative remarks I can even get out of you are "It's not the original!" Well, tough patooties. If we never strayed from the original we'd never get ANYTHING done. Mind you, the first Enterprise was only designed because it looked so unlike any existing spacecraft.
Of the JJ style ships, which I generally hate, I actually kinda of like this one. The design makes more sense than the one fielded by Abrams. The stockier interconnecting dorsal, the design of the deflector housing, etc. It seems more thought went into your ship that JJ's.
I think this is one of the best fan-ships I've seen in a long time. I think the "new timeline" version has the warp nacelles too close together, but you solved that aesthetic issue by using an E-type oval primary hull. The only thing: Roddenberry mandated that all Starfleet vessels w/non-integral nacelles have those nacelles "clearing" the primary hull, either above or below. This is asking a lot, but I even pay to see a version with the struts heightened so that that is the case :).
Excellent design. Looks powerfull. My only concern is that the forward torpedo launcher is dangerously close to the bottom of the saucer section. Other than that , great design. Would love to have more info on this ship if you have any. Any other ships you're working on?
Very well done! Are the schematics available on the 'net? This is one of the few Federation designs where the pylons look strong enough to support the warp nacelles! Good job!

the front torpedo bays are awfully close to the saucer section, if it were to fire it would possibly destroy the ship

I still think the Abrams ship looks like it has 2 gigantic hairdryers for nacelles.

Good model mate, very good, but it does look like if they fired the forward torpedoes they'd take half the saucer section with it

just hope they don't need to fire torpedo's, else the bottom of the main hull gets it. Dorsal needs to be taller.
