Hey, Frankie, AV! This is really quite a fine machinima. Beautifully and carefully shot, great camera angles, from the top-- the close-up on the cigarette and especially the newspaper--"Allied Forces Land in France" (what a great historical detail). Did you build the set yourself? This is one of my favorite paintings, and you do it great justice with the blues-y music that captures that sense of "what now?" Great art machinima!
@textcavation Thank you so much for your kind remarks. Yes the set was built by myself and my co-conspirator Violet, specifically to make this film. Of course the painting was created when the US entered WWII. By choosing a news headline from the turn of the war I was really implying the endlessness of the uncertainty and the perpetual anxiety that came with it. Did you spot Hopper's picture on the front page? From his self portrait. A tip of my hat to the great man. So pleased you enjoyed it!
@Nitwacket Thank you! Of course finding the right soundtrack is a key part of the process of illuminating your work and conveying the mood you intend. So pleased you enjoyed it!
@HVXSilverstar Thank you HVX. I am pleased you picked up on the pacing. I wanted that claustrophobic sense of quiet despair, and I have to say I think I nailed it! But would you really like a coffee there? And would you ever escape it? :)
Brilliant idea! It actually made me google the actual RL painting since I have never heard of it. So an excellent way to promo and old classic and bring it into the mainstream. I might try that
Impressive, sound and vision , hangover at its best
