It's funny how he talks about not mass producing bullshit albums and how they could have six albums out by now yet mayhem kept on releasing different albums with the same songs on them. That's awesome....Dawn of the Black Hearts was nothing more than an excuse to put that shameful picture of Dead out for everyone to see and promote the image he wanted for the band to have. I love the old mayhem songs but damn how many albums do we need with the same songs on them.
@norris3531 just so's you know, dawn of the black hearts was not an actual release from the band, but a bootleg. the picture's of dead's corpse leaked into the underground and it was used for the cover. Live in leipzig was a live album, so of course some of the tracks are repeated. until euronymous' death, deathcrush was the only official release. and honestly, none of their songs were released redundantly. the studio recordings with dead were not released until much much later.

Euronymous seemed like an egotistical, insecure jackass who deserved what happened to him. Claiming that his music was better than everything else around proved his pompousness and ignorance. It's funny how he talks about not mass producing bullshit albums and how they could have six albums out by now yet mayhem kept on releasing different albums with the same songs on them. That's awesome....Dawn of the Black Hearts was nothing more than an excuse to put that shameful picture of Dead out for everyone to see and promote the image he wanted for the band to have. I love the old mayhem songs but damn how many albums do we need with the same songs on them.

@norris3531 just so's you know, dawn of the black hearts was not an actual release from the band, but a bootleg. the picture's of dead's corpse leaked into the underground and it was used for the cover. Live in leipzig was a live album, so of course some of the tracks are repeated. until euronymous' death, deathcrush was the only official release. and honestly, none of their songs were released redundantly. the studio recordings with dead were not released until much much later.

On another note, the death of Euronymous was, in my opinion, necessary for black metal. If he had survived his encounter with Varg and had continued to play with Mayhem, black metal would have never garnered the attention it has received.

Though I respect what he did with the black metal genre and fully recognize his musical ingenuity, I honestly believe that his death was impending.

As I got older I realized that Euronymous was one of those people that lived to make other people's lives impossible. He was one of those people who should never have existed. Varg should have been declared innocent, Euronymous's pathetic life was not worth the 16 years stolen from Varg's youth. There's no doubt that Euronymous had actually planned to kill Varg. Varg just caught him off guard at a vulnerable moment.

Undoubtedly, Euro invented the classic black metal riff... He is credited for this by people as Varg and Fenriz (for reference - check the documentary Hvis lysset tar os). It is not important if Euro was a pussy, stoned teenager, etc. Because he is the real king, despite someone dislikes this or not.

idon't think he is "the real king"! i think per yngve "dead" ohlin has affected the accruement - not of the whole scene (--> black circle), but of the music wich we now call black metal- much more then aarseth, due to his dark and occult lyrics also as he was the first person on stage with corpse paint and the whole "cold and grim"- thing, wich seperates the black metal of the death metal and of what the black metal consists of was compounded by "dead".

"Kings" have no need to show off about how super-duper "satanic" they are. Euronymous sounds like a teenager stoned on his own ego, probably someone that never had true friends and no one gave a shit about, so he thought he'd start lighting up wooden churches & playing black metal to feel grand about something. Well I am a huge fan of the underground black metal scene, and so naturally I grew up on music by Mayhem, Burzum and all the other Norwegian bands. I must admit that after all these years, I still have respect for Mayhem and Euronymous but seriously he just sounds like an arrogant prick on this interview. And Varg is no better, he was practically boasting about murdering Euro, but talent wise Varg is clearly a better musician. Both bands will remain favorites of mine regardless
