but i believe they have a sort of plastic woven drumhead and the snares are right below it. its often used in high school bands

Never saw these kinds of drums nor did they have that pitch. Not sure what this drum is or what may be the advantages of using or if it's just a personal choice.

basically, yes.. drummers are the most musically impaired musicians... its the instrument that requires the least amount of knowledge of music theory and such. it's a percussion instrument.

im not saying it doesnt take talent to play the drums, especially on drumline, but it doesnt take very much musicianship.

What are you smoking? Who gives a shit about musical theory, music's about communicating feelings, expressing yourself, making yourself + others happy, etc, and of course, it's a hobby. How can you truly enjoy music if you're all caught up in the 'theory' and 'knowledge' of it, it's bullshit. Especially with drums - as you've said, they're a 'simple' instrument - that means it's even more impressive/hard for drummers to express themselves in this way, and it's something many good drummers do.

What I think is funny is that if you looked at the sheet music for this, you'd be dumbfounded as to how to even approach the first measure simply because you're musical competency would not be able to comprehened 90% of the rudiments at this tempo. Going fast isn't about going fast, it's a test of your control, which clearly this man has, being on the most decorated drumlines in the entire world.
