  • His canoe is a chestnut prospector. The most treasured canoe of any Canadian paddler. Bill was a legend and mentor. I Owe all my talent as a freestyle canoeist to Bill and his daughter, Becky. His son Paul taught me incredible technical skills in whitewater. I thank them all so much for opening up the sport so broadly but first Bill with the Waterwalker series.

  • Wow. Some great footage.

  • what kind of canoe was that? he sit on the stern, and the front barely rises, how stable is that!

  • @cjYooper because he has all his gear at the front so the weight is evened out...

  • "i'm gonna hold you up and love you, waterwalker"

  • Bill Mason carved "Paddle to the Sea" if anyone remembers that classic.

  • Bill struggled to make this one and called it the impossible feature. Actually the whole film was made from stock footage from his cutting room floor. Either way it's still amazing.

  • Everyone should feel a such instant in his life.

  • The music for Waterwalker was done by Bruce Cockburn who was a dear friend of Bill. Bruce is one of the poetic shining lights of Canadian folk, especially political folk.

  • I have some of Bill Mason's videos but not this one. If you own this video, do you think you could see who did the songs in the soundtrack and what their names are. I really like them.

  • Very cool vid. Yet I wouldn't walk through that muck, lol! Drop me off and pick me up 20 miles down the river! :)

  • I must admit , sometimes he looks as good as me , but I only have a sevylor tahiti.

  • Anyone who can get away with paddling a conoe in shorts that tight gets my respect without question :)

  • I love the way he bonds with nature and the water and also his kids what a awesome life to lead

  • he was good, just passing on a tradition that was centuries old. HOWEVER, from what I understand, he helped innovate the leaning canoe technique and was laughed at by old timers who thought it was silly. Now it's recognized as a stroke of brilliance.

  • Can somebody give me a link to the Cheaters theme Bill Mason - Broken Hearted?

  • omg i cant believe some1 other than me is looking 4 that song.

  • it KILLS me how he makes it all look so effortless. I wish.

  • no kiding never a mistake

  • when was this video made?

  • you are the man bill mason

  • Very, very cool...

    Bill Mason is a legend.

  • Is there, or has there ever been, a better paddler than Mason? Perhaps among the native peoples long ago...

  • clearly.......its a hobby for bill....i mean he is extremely passionate about it and probly loves it more than anything but at the end of the day it is for his enjoyment....the native peoples had to canoe to survive

  • Bill Mason was an Amaing human being, he makes me proud to say I am a Manitoban.

  • Yup. He was proud to be a Winnipeger, but loved canoeing all across central Canada and up North....wonder what he'd have said about the rise of sea kayakking on the west coast in the 90s...

  • and who hasn't had a portage like that on a trip: where it's just walking. walking, more walking, then sludging through lake ooze...

  • I'd say THE classic canoeing film..

  • I have seen these videos at the library before for check out

  • classic canoeing film
