  • i have a ball python but i really want a lil hoggy too. they're adorable :D

  • ANYBODY please RESPOND. Do western hognose snakes make good display animals?

  • @FattyDudley Not really they burrow a lot, mines under burrowed for 50 to 75% of the day but otherwise there really cool and super tame

  • lol its still alive when the only thing out of the snake is the hed

  • aww i feel bad for the baby rat it didnt get to experience life :'(

  • thats sweet but you should see my videos

  • 4 days after... wow. She must be Italian. ;)

  • She looks almost identical to my little lucifer!!! How can you easily tell the gender? It looks like you know what your doing but is it safe to feed on a grate with turf? I've always heard that they might get a piece of turf with the mouse. Lou went through a 'pre-teen' stage too where he didn't eat for almost 6 months. I love this video!!!! They look so much alike!!!

  • I can't get mine to eat frozen thawed pinkies... any advice?

  • @ikeorch7 First, what are your temperatures? How big is he/she? What is she eating currently?

I got mine to eat frozen thawed by scenting with a live toad. I rubbed the toad on the pinkie, and then she went for the pinkie, because it smelled like a toad to her.

  • @johnpvanek The temps are at 82 on the hot side, and around 77 or 78 on the cooler side. He's not eating anything currently, because I haven't gotten him to eat yet, and I've had him for a month. I got him at the NARBC from BHB reptiles.

  • what are western hogs like as pets, im getting one soon

  • @snakeboy96 They are awesome. Very calm, mild snakes. Hardy, and stay small. Please do your research before getting one though!

  • wow... its head is so fat when it swallows the mouse! :-D

  • Lol.... You can definately feed live if the mouse is too small to fight back; such as when they are in pinky/fuzzy stage! This guy seems smart enough to know that you dont feed medium to large size live ratsmice/rats to small non-constricting snakes!

  • I obviously meant live feeding in general isn`t necessary for al snake species.

  • that was awsome :D

  • Comment removed

  • @TMSreptiles the toxic saliva tortures the mouse? dude be real how the hell do snakes feed in the wild

  • @squeeze55 sorry

i think my cousin wrote this while i was logged in without me knowing

  • @TMSreptiles I usually feed frozen or prekilled, but this time I did not. Your passive aggressive "but whatever do as you please" was unnecessary.

  • @johnpvanek as i said i didnt write it

  • why do u ppl insist on posting videos of snakes eating live food

theres no need for it !!

if ur snake only eats live food fair enough u should NOT post videos but there will be alot of ppl take offence to this

  • @weeclaire1984 in all fairness.. LET THEM TAKE OFFENCE

YouTube is "Free-World" website.. meaning you can pritty much post anything (in the rules ofcourse) if anything you should be telling the people who complain to shut up.. as if they dont like it.. then dont watch or comment

  • @weeclaire1984 Do you ever watch the Discovery Channel? I'm not sure why it "offends" you. I understand if from an ethical standpoint, you disagree with the practice of feeding live, but you certainly have the option to not watch the video.

  • can western hognose snakes live on eco earth dirt?

  • @eLO419 You can use eco earth, but in my opinion, it is too expensive. It does look nice, however.

  • bull shit ive got three snakes none of them will accept frozen

  • @hazelpython Well, I have 6 snakes, and every single one will take frozen mice. If your snake is stubborn (as some are), there are many tricks you can do to get them to eat frozen.

In fact, this hognose refused mice for 4 months. It only wanted toads.

  • its called a natal rat :P

  • im like sorta freeked out by snakes whats like the best one for me

  • Corn snake

  • well it depends what makes you freaked out by them... and why would you want on if you dont liek them??? Corn snakes are easy to care for but they are long and skinny which i personally dont like. Thats why i got a ball python. Hog noses stay small.

  • king snake

  • Mmm yeah that`s one of the theories, not necessarely true. The Easterns will only eat frogs but westerns will happily convert to mice no worries. Thanks for the sarcastic message by the way, :) very nice...

  • Supposed is a tricky word. In the wild they also prey on mice, birds, and insects.

  • Really? I always hear they won't eat insects.

  • @nomadofthehills actuelly they eat lizards and frogs and toads in the wild.

  • @marleyboy23 Your an IDIOT

  • @marleyboy23 They'll eat them!

  • Theres just no need to feed live, no need at all. It`s easy to get most snakes eating thawed food, I speak from experience.

  • At this point I was breeding my own rodents, I wasn't going to take the time to freeze it first.

  • @feebix no freezing them is gross they get soggy and deformed one of my snakes will never eat frozen mice even when i first got it it never tried to eat it

  • @feebix I agree, there is no "need" to feed live. This hognose eats frozen 95% of the time.

  • @feebix me and my dad speak from 45 years of experience between us.. some DO not eat F/T :)

  • no I feed my hognose live pinkies (she refuses thawed out ones) and there too small to fight back. Its like eating babies XD

  • I do not feed live that can fight back, this is little dude could not fight back, he was in between pinky and fuzzy stage.

  • oh dear john, tell me that mouse is still alive when hes eating it? :-/ owie!

  • Beautiful little hoggie!
